Torrance Memorial’s Medical Staff and Torrance Memorial leadership have been working to better understand the current com-mitment to quality and patient safety at Torrance Memorial Medical Center as well as exploring opportunities to better align our goals and priorities related to quality and patient safety. A Medical Staff Quality and Patient Safety Committee was established for this purpose and to create and implement a structure that supports these goals. One of the first and foremost important accomplishments of the Medical Staff Quality and Patient Safety Committee was an agreement on Torrance Memorial’s specific definition of quality. The second accomplishment was the creation of the Torrance Memorial Medical Staff/Medical Center Compact that outlines our commitment to one another in pursuit of providing the best possible care to our patients and their families. The Medical Center’s values of Service, Excellence, Knowledge, Stability and Community provided a solid framework for the establishment of our commitments and helped guide us in the development pro-cess.
