1. Review aspects of a topographical map with students (shows geographical features with symbols to represent each, labeled names for major features, key).

2. Project topographical map of Greece on board. You can use provided map or Google Earth view, as well as information from Geography of Ancient Greece article.

3. Students take time to make their maps individually.4. You can have students share in several ways, as is appropriate for

your class:⁃ Have them share and compare with partners⁃ Hang them in the classroom for a gallery walk-style share⁃ Have student volunteers present them to the class⁃ Collect them to check and return

Ancient Greece

Using either the 3D Earth feature on Google Maps or a map that your teacher provides you, design a topographical map of ancient Greece that identifies at minimum the following features (you may add other features you believe are relevant as well):

• Geographic features such as mountains, valleys, bodies of water, etc.• Names of important city-states and regions (Athens, Sparta,

Macedonia, etc.)• A key to identify the symbols used to represent each feature• Appropriate colors and labels
