remains figuring out tips to improve concentration and the ability to stay calm during

the exam. This factor is often left at the back-burner which is paradoxical indeed as this

Whenever you are about to give up during your online exam preparation, follow the

Rule of Three. Convince yourself to attempt three more questions or read three more

paragraphs, the moment you decide to wrap up your studies. This Rule will help,

significantly, in increasing your mental endurance and soon you will realize that your

efforts are multiplied by three and still you won’t feel totally worked up at the end.

2. Meditation Rule

All of us know the power of meditation but for some reason or another we choose the

bundle of other works over a 5 minute meditation. Be different from the usual, take out

5 minutes from your schedule anyhow and meditate. Breathe in through your left

nostril, count till ten, then breathe out from your right nostril counting till ten. During

the process, focus on your breath and your body responding to your breathing. Shut

down all other thoughts and just relax. A simple 5 minute meditation routine can work

wonders for your brain. Your brain is more or less like a machine, it needs to get a

reboot from time to time; meditation provides that rebooting for your brain.

3. Ten second Rule

Whenever you start feeling dizzy during your long hour exam preparation schedule,

keep everything aside for ten seconds. Close your eyes and just take deep breaths. Inhale

and exhale counting till ten. Deep breaths provide the required Oxygen to your brain

which works as a Refresh Mechanism hence enabling your mind to get back to Work

Mode.

4. The Watch Rule

This Rule takes no efforts at all. All you have to do is sit in front of a wall clock or stare at

the Seconds needle of your wrist watch for two full minutes. The brain automatically

starts pushing aside all thoughts and concentrates on the moving needle. This is the

easiest technique for improved concentration and has been practiced since ancient

times.

5. Sense of Smell Rule

Whenever you eat your meal/snacks or have your tea/coffee, concentrate on the taste

and aroma. This small activity on a daily basis, makes your brain more observant and

focused over the time.

6. The 4 C’s Rule

Challenge, Control, Commitment, Confidence; these are the 4 C’s that you need to work

on. Challenge yourself with a new extended goal each time, try to perform better than

your last effort. Control your brain when it starts getting deviated from the subject of

concern. Commit towards making yourself better than yesterday. It’s always You vs.

You, make sure you are a better version of yourself today than you were yesterday. Be

confident about the goals you have set and have faith in your efforts.

7. Visualization Rule

Try to visualize the question while solving problems that involve

imagination/calculation. Visualizing a problem statement often turns out to be more

helpful in finding the right solution as compared to the n number of formulas for the

same.

8. One at A Time Rule

For instance, when you are studying Quant, focus on that particular Quant topic, don’t

let your mind worry about other sections of the Exam. Focus on one topic at a time. Allot

proper time schedule for each subject, topic wise and try to cover that one topic

properly, then proceed to the next one.

9. The Rule of Self-Imposed Distraction

If you feel extremely distracted by a thought or some other activity in your

surroundings, get out and take a short walk. Relax your brain, change your place of

study and restart after few minutes of break. When you get up from the place, you kind

of detach yourself from those thoughts and it gets easier to redirect your mind towards

what matters more at that point of time.

10. The Morning Rule

Namaskar or Sun Salutation, the first thing in the morning. This simple activity

consisting of 12 steps actually renders you energized to get along with the day and you

feel fresh to take on new tasks. It enhances your will power and improves your
