The Estimates Committee of the Parliament, in its 47th Report(1967-68), recommended the setting up of a Service SelectionCommission for conducting examinations for recruitment to lowercategories of posts. Pursuant to this, and as an interim measure, anExamination Wing was initially added to the Secretariat TrainingSchool, subsequently renamed as the Institute of SecretariatTraining and Management (ISTM). Consequently, the StaffSelection Commission (SSC) conducts several Examinations forfilling up of posts of several cadres and classes – the mostprominent ones being SSC CGL (Combined Graduate Level) andSSC CHSL (Combined Higher Secondary Level).
