GOOD evening to everyone attending today’s match at Love Lane, including the players, officials and support-ers from Bournemouth and the match officials.
Saturday brought us another great win here at the Lane against Christchurch, our fourth league win in a row. The three points also put us level on points with four other sides at the top of the table.
It has been a fantastic start to the season for the club and we must look to keep driving forward in each and every game.
Having watched the reserves and youth team in action recently I am happy to report that both of these sides are also looking in good shape for the season ahead. There are a lot of talented players in the two teams who will be pushing to make the breakthrough into the first team in the coming seasons.
This is exactly where we have been trying to get the club to for some time. There is still a lot of work and development to come but we will feel the benefit of having a stronger reserve and youth team set up throughout the club.
This evening we are getting a break from the league with this Hampshire Senior Cup tie, with the winners knowing they will host Aldershot Town next Tuesday evening in the second round.
Playing one of Hampshire’s biggest football clubs at Love Lane would be a huge honour for us and another fantastic occasion for this club.
However, we have to get through tonight’s fixture first and as they showed during the recent league game here, Bournemouth will be no pushovers. As usual, we must approach this game and prepare in the correct manner if we are to get the result we want.
GRAEME MOIR, VICE CHAIRMAN
RAMS report
Petersfield Town 4Christchurch 0
ROBBIE Tambling rediscovered his goal scoring form of last season to fire home a hat-trick and ensure the Rams picked up their fourth league win in a row.
He got his first goal after 13 minutes when the Rams won a string of corners. From the first corner Jamie Ford’s header was tipped over by keeper Paul Roast. The second was headed against his own crossbar by a defender and the third found Tambling completely unmarked inside the six yard box and he headed the ball home.
Tambling almost got his second mo-ments later when Brad Miles managed to knock down a cross from the left into his path. Tambling held off his marker to turn and fire a low shot which Roast blocked with his legs. Christchurch had their first effort of the afternoon on 26 minutes when a free kick from the right found Re-ece Owen and his header from the edge of the box looped up and bounced off the back of the crossbar to safety.
Brad Miles was unlucky not to score on 36 minutes when a free kick was cleared to him on the edge of the box and his shot was tipped wide by a fantastic one handed save by Roast.
Four minutes later Petersfield had a goal disallowed. It looked like Alex Low-ley has managed to keep in a deep cross from the right in play and his header back across goal was tucked away by Warren Hunt but the linesman judged that the ball had gone out of play.
Petersfield nearly extended their lead in the opening minutes of the second half when Tambling’s cross from the left found Danny Thompson completely unmarked
at the far post but he glanced his header well wide of the target. The Rams went 2-0 up eight minutes into the second half when Lowley played the perfect pass from the left wing into Tambling’s feet on the edge of the area. He held off the chal-lenges of two defenders before shooting the ball low past the keeper.
Christchurch then had what proved to be the second of only three real chances they had all afternoon when Owen tried his luck from 25 yards out but his shot was always rising over the target.
Tambling completed his hat-trick on the hour mark when he picked up the ball on the left wing, played the ball into the middle to Hunt who returned the pass into his path as he ran into the area. He took then took the ball around the keeper and thumped it home into the empty net.
Dan Steer came closest to scoring for Christchurch although he probably didn’t mean it – his cross from the left drifted towards goal but Matt Shortt was alert to back pedal and tip the ball over the bar. The Rams then went down to ten men when Alex Lowley was unfortunate to be given a straight red card but the referee judged his tackle to be dangerous.
With three minutes remaining substi-tute Andy Todd was put clean through by a pass from midfield and as he drew the keeper to the edge of the box he unself-ishly squared the ball to Joe Richardson but his attempted shot went horribly wide of the open goal.
Phil Archbold then hit the crossbar with a cross come shot and then in the final minute of the game Thompson’s cross from the left found Todd completely unmarked in the box and he headed the ball home.
Tambling hits a hat-trick as Rams make it four on the trot

THE CLUB was founded at a meet-ing held in Abbotts Auction Mart in Old Christchurch Road by eight enthusiastic gentlemen presided over by Alderman J Nethercoate (later to become Mayor of Bournemouth) on September 11,1875.
It was decided to call the club Bour-nemouth Rovers and it is one of the oldest clubs in the country, being founder Members of the Football Association, Hampshire FA and Bournemouth FA.
Bournemouth FC was adopted in 1889 having amalgamated with another local side, Bournemouth Arabs. The club was among the founder members of the Hampshire League and up to joining the Wessex League in 1986 had played entirely in the Hampshire League.
The earliest record of playing in the FA Cup was a 6-0 defeat at Kennington Oval against Old Westminsters back on November 1, 1884.
The club played the second game in the inaugural Hampshire League campaign of 1896-97, going down 1-0 to Ryde Sports on September 12, 1896.
The club has had three homes during its history – the first ground being at a place called East Common near the rail-way station and Dean Park (current home of Dorset County Cricket) before moving to Victoria Park.
The first taste of county success came in winning the West Division in 1905 and then again in 1910. Poppies became County Division champions either side of the Great War in 1914 and 1922, picking up the Hampshire League Shield in 1913. Wheeler scored 76 goals that season from 47 matches.
The furthest progress in the FA Ama-teur Cup saw Poppies reach the third
round in 1923-24. They won the Division 2 championship in 1932.
The club recovered some of its past glories by winning the Hampshire Inter-mediate Cup in 1950, 1970 and 1972.
Division 1 status was regained for the 1979-80 season but relegations quickly followed and in 1982-83 they slipped into Division 3, remaining there until being admitted to the newly-formed Wessex League in 1985.
The Wessex League championship has remained elusive with the club com-ing close on two occasions - third place in 1990-91 and runners-up in 1994-5 to Fleet Town.
The first piece of silverware for a number of years arrived in 2010-11 in the shape of the League Cup, with a 1-0 win over Winchester City.
The season 2011-12 saw the team reach the FA Vase quarter finals, going out 2-0 in a home reverse against West Auckland Town. An indifferent 2012-13 and 2013-14 were both seasons that won’t last long in the memory bank.
However with almost a complete new look squad, this season the Poppies hope to be among the clubs pressing for honours. They are the sole club to have played in the top flight in each Wessex League season.
The clubhouse at their home ground was opened in 1985 – just in time for entering the Wessex League – and the current 205-seater stand provides adequate cover from the elements with several rows of bench seating replacing the old wooden stand that was destroyed by fire during 1974. This stretches about a third of the length of the pitch – next to the glass-fronted clubhouse.
Bournemouth Poppies are one of oldest clubs in country
