Dear Mayor Henry and Council

In light of numerous concerns in the community specifically about Nancy Diamond and Amy England surfing the Internet during council meetings as well as recent defamatory posts from Amy Englands personal twitter account (which I do not subscribe to) surrounding local business owners I feel that its time to come up to speed with councils interactions on social media on behalfof the City ofOshawa and explore whats acceptable from a personal nature As a member ofcouncil holds a significant position ofreasonability and not a simple 9 to 5 job they are representing Oshawa at every moment in every fonun ofcommunication

I feel that some Oshawa councillors are hiding behind the fact that there is no policy in effect prohibiting members of council from attacking personal businesses in Oshawa on social media such as what Amy England has done recently Shes actually taunting and harassing two business owners because of the lack ofa policy in effect Lets fix that

I am asking that council and staff develop some guidelines surrounding members ofcouncil and their use of social media on behalfof The City of Oshawa

I am quite concerned about the recent flurry if negative posts from Amy Englands personal account as it is directly related to her elected position

This conduct sheds a negative light on Oshawa it is disruptiveto the business ofOshawa is completely baseless in fact and damages our Citys reputation It is an embarrassment

I am asking that staffand council develop a good policy that protects Oshawas reputation at all costs to avoid future embarrassments I am asking the offending party to stop attacking business owners in Oshawa as well

There is no free speech excuse when it damages a reputation oftwo long time good businesses in Oshawa in exchange for the self serving pride of a rookie councillor

Lets move toward working together instead of building walls
