A MessageFrom His Holiness SomdetBuddhajanPresident of the Committee, Acting on Behalf of
the Supreme Patriarch of ThailandDE
Lord Buddha, after fulfilling the perfections, attained CompleteEnlightenment and then taught the Dhamma (Truth) he had realized toall teachable persons.
People with faith in Lord Buddhas teaching will wholeheartedly
honour and revere the Dhamma as a Refuge (Sarana), because theBuddha, who is possessed of purity, virtue and unequalled excellence, taught that those with faith in his religion will praise the Dhamma, thePurest of gems, by realizing it with their minds and practicing it in theiractions of body and speech.
The Dhamma is therefore beyond the wisdom of the ordinarypeople, for it has arisen out of the Buddhas Perfect Enlightenment.
The Light of Buddha Dhamma Foundation has for the last fiveyears supported the Tripitaka recitation program arranged by TheravadaBuddhists internationally. These mental, physical contributions andsupports are highly impressive and memorable. These admirable prac-tices are regarded as the preservation of Lord Buddhas teachings andtherefore praiseworthy.
May all beings be happy and peaceful.

Dear Venerable Mahasangha and all Lay Devotees,On behalf of the International Tipitaka Chanting Council, may I
extend a warm welcome to you all at this, the fifth International TipitakaChanting ceremony. It is wonderful to see the numbers grow in thisauspicious event from year to year.
The International Council represents 17 viharas in Bodhgayaand seven national sanghas, and oversees the general conduct of theChanting Ceremony itself. Please take time to look at our website atwww.tipttakachantingcouncil.org where you can see both our constitutionand details of both this and the ceremonies of previous years.
Every two years a new national Sangha will organize the cere-mony, and this year the great Sangha of Thailand in in its second yearas the main organizer. I wish to extend heartfelt thanks to all those whohave worked so hard to make the arrangements for the Ceremony asuccess.
The programme for the event has been printed on the back ofthe registration form, but if you have any enquiries about this or other
matters, there is an information tent at the main entrance to the Temple.Furthermore, as in previous year, we would like also welcome any sug-gestions you may have to further improve the event.
The chanting of the Budha word at the place of enlightenmentbring great blessing, and we are sure that the experience of being herewil be rewarding for all concerned.
We also hope and pray that this event will continue to developthe Buddha Sasana, particularly here, in the ancient land of the Ary-adesh, where the sangha chanted the Tipitaka daily for so many hun-dreds of years. May the sound of our voices, and the messages of theBuddha Bhagavat spread far and wide over this ancient and holy land.
Thank you again for being with us for this important occasion.

The 5th Annual International Tipitaka Chanting Ceremony
Bodhgaya, India, December 2nd-12th, 2009
Message from Venerable Tarthang TulkuLight of Buddhadharma Foundation International

November, 2009
Eminent Bhikkhus,
Homage to the Buddha, Dharma and Sangha. We find ourselves at an extraordinary occasion of time and place with the eminent sanghas of seven countries of Southeast Asia re-united after seven hundred years in prayers beneath the Bodhi tree.
For the last five years, LBDFI, through the efforts of its director, my daughter Wangmo Dixey, has strived to connect with the promi-nent sanghas of Southeast Asia. Great efforts have been made on the part of the respective sanghas to participate in the TipitakaChanting Ceremony. We congratulate the noble sanghas of all seven nations for taking their own initiatives toward realizing our sharedvision.
My original intention was for LBDFI to become a vehicle for supporting the Triple Gem at the place Buddhists revere as most sacredon the planet. The great spiritual land of India, and even more so, the holy site of Bodh Gaya itself, needs more of such gatherings asI believe they have a special role to play in promoting spiritual balance in our world and cosmos. In light of this and many other rea-sons, I feel deeply fortunate that we have had the unique privilege of continuing to support this event.
Our world today, more than ever needs to support the Buddha, Dharma and Sangha. We can see in the world today so many signsthat our world is in desperate need of more dharma blessings, as materialism, individual confusion, dissatisfaction and aggressionhave created such great imbalance, internally for our humanity and externally for our planet.
In the West we see increasing faith and respect for all schools of Buddhist teachings with more and more people recognizing that
individual peace and happiness may be found in following the path of the Bhagavan. At the same time, Buddhism has also becomeincreasingly respected as a faith that imparts the universal values of peace, compassion and tolerance humanity so seriously needs.
As Buddhists, we deeply believe and know that only the wisdom and compassion of the Lord Buddha can heal the suffering of theworld, granting health, happiness and ultimately, the complete freedom of nirodham. Once again, this year, we followers of both thearhat and bodhisattva traditions of the Buddha have an opportunity to make a great contribution to all sentient beings through ourprayers at this blessed place.
I am most grateful to all of the participants and supporters of the ceremony, and the noble land of Aryadesh as well. We are participat-ing in a historical and memorable moment in our Buddhist history. Please join me in my heartfelt prayer that this ceremony continuesfor generations for the benefit of all beings.
Sarvam Mangalam Jayantu Ho!
