Sales Management CommentsWelcome to the 2010 edition of Simmsational. We have covered the province and assembled an excellent set of Simmental cattle for your appraisal. This year we have a few less numbers but have really concentrated on bringing only the very best to town. The bred heifer selection will be one of the best for offer this fall. Whether it’s a black, red, or fullblood heifer you have your heart set on, you are sure to fi nd that special one to add to your program. This group will carry services to some of the most interesting and newest genetics available. They are big volumed, stout females with loads of phenotype with many that are destined to be future elite cow families or donor type cows.

The heifer calves we have selected are as well a very strong set. There is something for everyone in this group. These ladies are just younger versions of the bred heifers. They come from the top end of each program and out of top cows from each program. There will be heifer calves that will compete in the showring with the best of them as well as beautiful made brood cows to produce that next great herdsire.

The bull offering we have swung for the fence ony bringing the very best few bulls to town for your appraisal. The bulls on offer are the freshest and newest genetics available today out of very strong, proven cow families. They have all the pieces to be your next herdsire. These bulls are stout, hairy, sound bulls that are sure to make an impact on your program.

Simmsational has been a long standing Saskatchewan sale that has always been a highlight for the fall sale season. This group of breeders have dug extremely deep into their herds to only offer their very best to bring to town. Many cattle have been sold out of this sale to go on and do great things in their new programs as will many go from this group, to again have very big, bright futures. Here’s a tremendous Accelerator 226S daughter out of a super Red Chief cow. If we were to let someone pick 10 cows out of our program, I’m pretty sure Red Pocahontas 169P would be in that group. She’s moderate in frame, deep and angular with a super udder, as do all the Red Chief cows. Red Essence 51W herself is long, deep, broody and super fronted and setting up a nice udder. If we were picking a bred heifer to show, she might be the one. She’s bred early to Red Bull 53T, the homozygous polled Freedom son that is causing quite a stir for Semex. He’s dark cherry red, well muscled and has lots of style and eye appeal. We actually tried to buy the walking rights in this Red Bull this spring, but couldn’t get it done. This should be an exciting mating with Red Essence 51W.

We think this is a great opportunity to purchase a small amount of exclusive semen on one of the breed’s top red Simmental bulls. Accelerator has done a super job for us here at LaBatte Simmentals. We purchased him as a yearling from TNT Simmentals in North Dakota for $27,000. A lot of money, but what an investment he has been. We’re so fortunate to have had walking bulls like Red Chief, Ribeye and now Accelerator himself. We have averaged over $6600 on his bull calves in our last two bull sales. They have been readily accepted by the purebred breeder and commercial industry. His daughters are absolute powerhouses; this was the fi rst year of his daughters calving and what a job they did on their calves. As was seen in his daughters in the 2009 Simmsational Sale and again in our offering of six of his daughters in this year’s Simmsational, his female progeny are soggy, deep, broody and powerful. Accelerator himself looks like he does in his picture year round. He’s heavy muscled, long, deep, moderate framed, big footed and has a super disposition. He is a maternal brother to Remington Red Label and Winchester. He’s sired by Gold Mine and out of the great Arapahoe cow, HS Refl ections. He’s homozygous polled and heterozygous black, has calving ease and maternal power.

We think these are also feature heifers. We really like them both and couldn’t decide which one to sell, so we thought we’d give you the choice. We believe the black blaze faced cattle are going to become very popular, especially to our commercial bull customers. These two heifers are very, very similar in type and quality; both are moderate framed, angular, deep and broody and are very feminine. The 33W heifer is backed by the Lucy 61K family, whose daughter, Ms Hero 66R, is in our transplant program righ now; she’s the grandmother of 33W. All four generations are black blaze faced and have exceptional udders. The 120W heifer is out of a black blaze faced Houston daughter going back to the Split Diamond cow family we purchased from the Noremac dispersal. We believe these are two exceptional heifers and a real opportunity to advance your black baldy program. I would really be hoping for a bull calf. Both bred to homozygous black and polled bulls.

Her sire, Full Figures, is known here for his calving ease and productive females, and though he is black this heifer came out red. A maternal sister sold to Wade Lund a couple of years ago and she sounds like she took after her dam and I am sure this heifer will too.
