It is on display at Trinity College in Dublin and is known as Ireland's finest national treasure. When you look at our windows, you will notice a knot-like pattern. These knots are a traditional way of adorning Christian monuments and manuscripts, such as the 8th- century St. Teilo Gospels, the Book of Kells and the Lindisfarne Gospels. Most are endless knots, and many are varieties of basket weave knots. The use of interlace patterns had its origin in the artwork of the late Roman Empire. Knot patterns first appeared in the third and fourth centuries AD and can be seen in Roman floor mosaics of that time. Interesting developments in the artistic use of interlaced knot patterns are found in Byzantine architecture and Coptic art, Celtic art, Islamic art, Medieval Russian book illumination, Ethiopian art, and European architecture, book illumination and now in our chapel here in little old Ephrata. Along with the knot pattern, the four Evangelists are also depicted in our windows. In Christian tradition, the four Evangelists are Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, the authors attributed with the creation of the four Gospel accounts in the New Testament and each gospel has a symbol: Matthew is the author of the first gospel account and is symbolized by a winged man, or angel. Mark is the author of the second gospel account is symbolized by a winged lion – a figure of courage and monarchy. Luke is the author of the third gospel account (and the Acts of the Apostles) is symbolized by a winged ox or bull – a figure of sacrifice, service and strength. John is the author of the fourth gospel account is symbolized by an eagle – a figure of the sky, and believed to be able to look straight into the sun. My hope is that many of you will regularly visit our chapel for prayer. May our beautiful windows inspire you and deepen your love for the four Gospels of Jesus Christ. Sincerely, Rev. Miguel Gonzalez

From your Pastor… Someone asked me the other day about the design of the windows that were chosen for the chapel. The whole theme comes from what is called, “The Book of Kells”. The Book of Kells is a manuscript in Latin, containing the four Gospels of the New Testament. It was created in a Columban monastery in either Britain or Ireland over one thousand years ago. It is a masterwork of Western calligraphy and represents the highpoint of illuminating texts with artwork. It is on display at Trinity College in Dublin and is known as Ireland's finest national treasure.

When you look at our windows, you will notice a knot-like pattern. These knots are a traditional way of adorning Christian monuments and manuscripts, such as the 8th-century St.

In Christian tradition, the four Evangelists are Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, the authors attributed with the creation of the four Gospel accounts in the New Testament and each gospel has a symbol:

Matthew is the author of the first gospel account and is symbolized by a winged man, or angel.

Sincerely,

Rev. Miguel Gonzalez

Did you know???

Lord, Hear our Prayer The intercessions in the Mass are a type of the petition prayer form. Called the prayer of the faithful, they connect the Liturgy with real life, making us consciously aware of the people and needs we name n the intercessions. In the Prayer of the faithful, we pray for the Church, for public authorities, for the salvation of the whole world, who are oppressed by any need, and for the local community. These prayers are sometimes called general intercessions because they are meant for general, not private needs ( although we do pray for member of the community who are ill or who have died.) so if you are asked to write general intercessions for the prayer of the Faithful, do not pray, “ For my friend who is going through a hard time.” it would be okay to pray. “That all people experiencing rejection and loneliness would experience God’s loving presence.” Get the difference?
