REFLECTION ON THE LITURGY OF THE WORD O ur Lenten journey moves into its third week and we hear the Gospel story of the fig tree that is spared for one more season to see if it will bear fruit. One lesson we can learn is that God is always willing to give us another chance, but for our part we must be receptive to God’s nurturing. So let us resolve in this time of Lent to continue or perhaps resume or even start our Lenten disciplines so that they may bear fruit in our spiritual lives. The first reading sets the stage for the other two: God hears the Chosen People’s cry in Egypt and acts deci- sively to save them. But St. Paul says that not all of them were saved in the end. What was needed was the repentance of which Jesus speaks in the Gospel. Let us listen closely for God’s message of repent- ance and redemption. The Psalmist tells us that “the Lord is kind and merciful”. The Lord abounds in kindness and is slow to anger. As we continue to pattern our lives on the way of the Gospel we turn to God in our sinfulness and ask for mercy. We remember that God is always present to us “he redeems your life from destruction, he crowns you with kindness and compassion.” MARCH 24, 2019 PLEASE PRAY FOR OUR BELOVED SICK Luke Peterson, Ralph Valenti, Theresa Gonzalez, Natalie Delgado, Carmelo Pulizzotto, Salvatore Pandolfo, Arthur Malagoli, Thomas Messina, Ann DeForca, Maureen Rivera, Anthony Calabrese, Bina Capotorto, Fred Lesto, Joseph Perrelli, Jean Bevacqua, George Cagno, Ariana Mainner, Julia Bruzzese, Josephine Zimmitti, Frank DiBari, Rose Dee, Calogero & Consiglia Bertolino. REFLECTION ON THE LITURGY OF THE WORD

O ur Lenten journey moves into its third week and we hear the Gospel story of the fig tree that is

spared for one more season to see if it will bear fruit. One lesson we can learn is that God is always willing to give us another chance, but for our part we must be receptive to God’s nurturing. So let us resolve in this time of Lent to continue or perhaps resume or even start our Lenten disciplines so that they may bear fruit in our spiritual lives.

The first reading sets the stage for the other two: God hears the Chosen People’s cry in Egypt and acts deci-sively to save them. But St. Paul says that not all of them were saved in the end. What was needed was the repentance of which Jesus speaks in the Gospel. Let us listen closely for God’s message of repent-ance and redemption. The Psalmist tells us that “the Lord is kind and

merciful”. The Lord abounds in kindness and is slow to anger. As we continue to pattern our lives on the way of the Gospel we turn to God in our sinfulness and ask for mercy. We remember that God is always present to us “he redeems your life from destruction, he crowns you with kindness and compassion.”

THEME: FAITH & GOOD WORKS

PARISH GOAL: $25,032.00

AS OF 3/24

21 DONORS HAVE PLEDGES $14,980.00

AND PAID IN FULL $8,060.00

The 2019 Annual Catholic Appeal (ACA) emphasizes the call of all in the Church to share our Faith and do Good Works through acts of Charity and reminds us of the responsibility we have in supporting our Parish, as well as the ministries of the larger Church community in Brooklyn and Queens, programs and services that are carried out through the ACA. This year’s theme “Faith and Good Works” reminds us that we are all called to be active and generous participants in the joyful works of our Church. If each household in our Parish makes a sacrificial gift to the ACA we will not only go over our goal, but have the money over the goal returned to the Parish. Remember, no gift is too small or too large. Every Sunday throughout the Diocese of Brooklyn, in 186 parishes similar to Cabrini, the faithful come together to renew their relationship with the Lord. But 365 days of our year, members of our diocesan family and our own parish family con-tinue to answer God’s call to love one another in ways that continuously respond to this renewal. In this Lenten Season, it seems a fitting time for us to reflect on the call of Jesus who asks us to feed the hungry, visit the imprisoned and welcome the stranger. Sacred Scripture says: “In everyway I have shown you that by so working hard one must help the weak” remembering the words that the Lord Jesus said, “Happiness lies more in giving than in receiving.” (Acts 20:35) As his mission-ary disciples we are encouraged to share our faith to the world by giving love and compassion. This year we are called to re-spond to the many needs of our families of our diocese through pastoral, charitable and educational services administered compassionately to the people of Brooklyn and Queens. The ACA is the primary vehicle for raising the necessary funds that will allow our community to continue to share their gifts with others. Thank you for your attention in reading this announcement. Let us pray that the 2019 ACA will be successful and allow us to continue reaching out with the Lord’s love to those in need in our communities. Join me in continuing a Lenten tradition of grateful sacrifice by participating in the 2019 Annual Catholic Appeal. If you have not received a pledge form in the mail they are available on the table in the back of the Church. Fill it out and mail it to the Appeal Office or return it to Church next weekend and it will be sent to the Office.

The work and services made possible through your donation to the ACA help the people in Brooklyn and Queens in ways that no one parish can alone. Please remain assured than your gift to the ACA

cannot be used in the settlement of abuse claims or for anything other than their intended purpose.
