We thank all our Ministries for Loving God, Growing in Grace and Serving His People!
AFTER THE RESURRECTION
Today we will meditate on the disciples who were heading for a town called Emaus.
Those disciples were sad, talking about the happenings that took place in Jerusalem. These men were
disciples of the Teacher, they admired and loved Him and because of Jesus’ death, their words were filled
with sadness and they were suffering a great disappointment.
While the disciples were walking, a stranger joined them and asked them, what they were talking about. The
question surprised them, and one of them asked him: “Are you the only resident in Jerusalem that does not
know the things that have happened here, on these days?” And the stranger asked: “What things?”
They spoke to him about Jesus of Nazareth, who was a powerful Prophet in words and works before God
and before the people, and how High Priests and Doctors of the Las, condemned Him to death and crucified
Him.
These disciples as the Apostles, heard several times from Jesus’ lips, that He was going to die, in the hands of
his enemies, but He was going to resurrect (come back to life) on the third day. These disciples had seen
Jesus’ work in marvelous things: Give sight to the blind, cured the lepers, give life to the dead… but they did
not believe in Jesus’ words: that He would resurrect on the third day, after his death. Their faith was still
weak, and did not give credit to what the women were saying in that the tomb was empty and that Christ
had resurrected, as the angels testified,
When Jesus said to the men from Enaus, that they were hard of heart of what the Prophet had said, and He
was explaining to them the Scriptures, how it was necessary that Christ would suffer in order for Him to
enter into his glory.. at a point, Jesus made a sign as if He was to continue on the road. They asked him with
insistence to stay with them, since it was getting late…. Jesus entered the house and stayed with them, and
being invited to dine with them, He took the bread and pronouncing the blessing, cut it into parts for them
and gave the parts to them.. Then their eyes were opened and they recognized Him, but He disappeared
from their sight,
What a big force had Jesus’ words put in them and what a profound effect was filling them, while listening to
his words and for this reason they said to one another: “Weren’t our hearts in flames when he was
explaining the Scriptures….” In that moment they got up and went back to Jerusalem,. In order to
communicate to the Apostles what had happened to them.
What fruit can we get from his Gospel, we who frequently listen to the words of our Lord, being commented
by our Priests, many times we fall short in the faith and doubt of the Lord’s words, of his promises that will
always be accomplished.
