Vapour Compression Stills Main features The principle features of the stilmas thermocompressor are: • Possibility to produce cold WFI water of 25°C or hot of 85°C due to low velocity separation • No need cooling water • High energetic performance due an optimized configuration of the heat recovery system and design of the compressor • Fast response: in stand by conditions the distillate is produced in 10 minutes • Reduced and easy maintenance with a long life of the thermocompressor • Due to lack of high temperature softened feed water is suitable • Non-condensable gases are highly efficient removed Operating principle • Feed water is pre-heated in three head exchangers to recover the sensible heat of produced WFI, concentrated and Non-condensable Gases. • The feed water is then send to the still main body bottom, where it is pre-heated to evaporation temperature by an external energy source – electrical or steam. • The evaporation takes place in a vertical shell and tube heat exchanger which is an integral part of the still body • The produced steam is flowing into the evaporation column where the decontamination occurs. • The pure steam s than sucked by the compressor and send back to the same tube heat exchanger • The slightly pressurized steam condenses at a higher temperature than the boiling water tube side, so transferring the latent heat. • The condensed WFI is sent to the hydrostatic column for degassing and finally is pressurized by a sanitary pump, sent to the heat recovery system and then to battery limits. Product (WFI) contact parts are mechanically polished and piping is orbitally welded. For best possible inspection, the decontamination chamber is totally empty. The absence in this area of welding dramatically reduces the risk of corrosion, for a very long expected life. The pre-heater in contact with Non-condesable gases is shell and tube DTS. Stilmas industrial company has engineered the Vapour compression series that produce distilled Water for Injection that meets the latest requirements of the international Pharmacopeias including USP, EP and JP. Stilmas Thermocompressors Series can be fed with deionized water or even softened water. They can also be used to produce USP purified water.
