If you’ve been on any so-cial media site for more than 3 minutes, you’ve most likely seen a post or status relating to this band. Their simplistic yet wit-ty instrumentation and lyrics have taken over the new wave punk rock movement and seem to have no intent of slowing down. The Story So Far is a quintet of young Bay Area skate punk rockers that have been at it for nearly 8 years. From several EPs to two very successful LPs, The Story So Far have already made their mark as a favorite amongst teens and young adults. Luckily for us, they are releasing a brand new self-titled full length album on May 19th. If you have read one of my earlier reviews, I covered my fa-vorite album of 2013; The Story So Far’s second LP, What You Don’t See. It was packed full of angst, loud guitars and emotion. This album surely had a story to tell. With the month of May approaching, TSSF have released two singles in a matter of three weeks, and both had my feelings contrasting like making two magnets face each other on both sides. Their first single, “Nerve” is already great on it’s own. The mu-sic is a little more complex and the lyrics are more thought out, which shows how they’re maturing as musicians. I took a liking to it as soon as I heard that first opening major chord followed by pounding drums. This song has me very excited for what is to come. On the other hand, their second single, “Solo”; released on Eas-ter, has me trembling in fear. This song nearly outweighed the awe-some power of “Nerve” with dry instrumentation and boring lyrics. I never thought that I would ever dislike one of their songs before. I’m not encouraging listeners to instantly hate this song, but I’m merely warning them of what could be a shocking and very rough transition for die-hard Story So Far listeners. I have no further information on anymore songs on this LP for they have kept very quiet about it. It wasn’t until two months ago that they finally said that had been writing new music. They never said anything about recording, but I suppose that it would have safe to assume that they have already started tracking new material.

The Story So Far Album Preview

By Brad SmithersForrest Gump: a cinemat-ic masterpiece, but what about the novel that in-spired it all? Forrest Gump the novel was first published in 1986, but it wasn’t until the release of the movie version that this novel really began to reach an audience. Soon rising to #1 on the New York Times and USA Today bestseller lists. To many people, myself included, it isn’t re-ally very known that this story was a novel before the movie, but in my opinion this novel is well worth the read. Anyone who has seen it can remember all the stuff that happens to Forrest. The adventures he went on, the friends he made, the heart breaks he had, and in the novel in these aspects of Forrest’s live are all still true. Yet the path Forrest takes in this uni-verse is much different to that in the movie. In the novel Forrest goes on adventures much different than those of the movie and in many ways way more interesting. In the novel you also get more of a chance to connect with Forrest. Whether it be in how things go with Jenny, his confusion in his future, or just in who he is and how he works, the first person story telling really puts you in his shoes. In conclusion, if you liked the movie you’ll like this novel. While the movie didn’t emu-late the exact adventures of Forrest, it did begin to capture his essence. When reading this book you’ll see things through his eyes, feel the things he feels, and learn something that many need to learn: we are all idiots.

Last Saturday at the Showcase Amer-ica Unlimited Regional Qualifier the Dance with Cindy Phoenix Dancers took home the first place trophy in the production category. The Phoenix dancers have 21 members from all different schools in the county and grade levels ranging from 7-12. Tri High members contributing to this victory include Katie Pfaff, Baliegh Davis, and Abby Meeker. These girls worked hard from the begining of January on their Aladdin dance rou-tine to make sure it was perfect by competition time. With it being an Aladdin dance routine, every song they danced to came from the Alad-din soundtrack. This made choreog-raphy very difficult to perfect because of all the different speeds of the mu-sic. With all the challenges these girls faced and all the hard work they put into their competition they exceed-ed all expectations and won 3 major awards. The first award was the High Superior award, which is ranked on how well they did. The next award the team took home was 1st place in the Productions category, along with winning the High Point trophy. The Phoenix dancers did so well this past weekend by placing first place at the Regional level, that they qualified for Nationals. With all the hard work they have already done, they have no intention of taking a break from dance. Instead they’ve already started on their new routine and will show-case it at Hagerstown’s Elementary Gymnasium on April 10th. So make sure to come out April 10th and get a sneak peek of what the Phoenix Dancers are really made of!

The Titan baseball team is stepping up to bat and preparing for the upcoming season. This years team looks to win many games and make a run for the Sectional championship. The team is coming off a succesful season that included a game in the Sectional championship but came up just short. It was a heartbreaking loss for the whole team. The team is looking to improve on many things from last year. The team also has the county tournament in their sights. The titans are loaded deep with talent this year and Coach Ellis believes the team can do great things. The team is going to be young this year with a strong group of freshmen coming up. The team has three returning seniors, Riley Casteel, George David Logan, and Lane Rust. Other returning players are Chris Blake, Robert Wyant, Bryce Longnecker, Kaleb Harrison, Devon Jones, Eric Bilby, Grady Cox. The upcoming Freshmen are Drew Mondrush, Alex Melton, Mason Rottinghaus, Nick Wilson, Mason Phelps and Josiah Jackson. Team Captain Riley Casteel thinks that his team is capable of winning a lot of games this year if they all buy into the team and put one hundred percent of their effort into every practice. Riley strives to go back to the Sectional championship and finish the job this time. The Titans future looks very bright this season and we wish them the best.
