Even though I knew my dad had accomplished a great deal in his lifetime, as we compiled his obituary, thought through his eulogy, and heard stories about the impact his life had on so many others, I was wonderfully overwhelmed as I reflected on all he accomplished in his 76 years. My dad was not afraid to take on a big project and work at major goals with unflinching persistence. He accomplished so much because he never stopped trying to achieve great things. As we close 2013 and begin a new year I want to ask you what you want to do with your 2014? You have 52 weeks, or 365 days, or 525,600 minutes (however you want to measure it) with which to make an impact in your life, in the lives of others, and in the Kingdom of God. What will you learn? What will you take on? What will you attempt? What will you achieve? What will you do with this year that God is giving you which is so full of possibilities. Maybe you can do something you’ve been putting off for too long. Maybe you will seek forgiveness or reconciliation with an estranged relative or friend. Maybe you’ll start volunteering with Habitat for Humanity or one of the many other great difference-making organizations in our area. Maybe you’ll volunteer to read to a child once a week, help teach GED students, or volunteer at a nursing home. e opportunities are limited only by your imagination. Maybe you’ll write a book, start a business, pursue a degree, or help someone else accomplish these kinds of things. What will you do with your year? I love the words from the Parable of the Talents when the master says to the faithful servants, “Well done good and faithful servant, you have been faithful with a few things, now I will put you in charge of many things…” We have a new year with which to be faithful. Let’s seek to be good and faithful servants as we receive the incredible giſt of 2014. What Will You Do With Your Year

My dad’s recent death has made me think a great deal about living. I had the opportunity to share a little bit about my dad’s life at his memorial service.
