ATTENDANCE
The class with the highest
attendance was 5 St Anthony
with 98.55%. Well done 5SA.
The attendance this year to date
is 95.59%.
Thank you for continuing to
support us with your children’s
attendance.
Dear Parents and Carers
Last week, there was so much to be proud of, and so many achievements to celebrate both as a
school and for individuals and teams.
First of all, we held two open days. One was Tuesday morning and another Thursday evening.
Both were well attended. I was so proud on Tuesday showing off our school, as the children
worked away in their classrooms. They had such focus and amazing behaviour-for-learning
that our visitors could not have been anything but impressed. On Thursday evening it was
again a joy to show off all our children’s learning.
I want to say a big thank you to the Year 6 children who showed around our visitors on
Tuesday, and an even bigger thank you to those who came back on Thursday evening. Thank
you also to the parents who brought them back to school. On both occasions the children were
beautifully behaved, articulate, enthusiastic and polite. You should be very proud of them.
We are very proud of our Year 5 and 6 girls, who this week came a very close third in the
Dorking Schools’ Partnership Girls’ Football tournament. In fact they beat both of the teams
who came first and second, winning one match 5-0! In fact we scored more goals than any
other team and there was only one point between first, second and third. The girls played with
passion, skill, and enthusiasm and their team work was outstanding. Thank you to the parents
who came to spectate. Your girls should show off their medals with pride.
Amellie held a cake sale on Thursday to raise money for The Little Princess Trust. More about
that later in the newsletter, but I just wanted to say how proud I am of any child who would
give their time and effort for the benefit of others. Not only did she make the cakes, but she is
also boosting the donation with her own birthday money. Amellie— we are very proud of your
generosity and selflessness.
We have a very busy week ahead of us with lots of things to remember. During the whole week
we have an anti-bullying week with a focus on how to be a good friend. More of that on page 4.
Wednesday is the deadline for ordering Christmas Cards so make sure you bring in your order
forms and money to guarantee your order. Then on Friday we have our Children in Need Odd
Sock Day (please bring £1) as well as a cake sale after school. Children can wear odd socks,
spotty socks, crazy socks, but please still wear school uniform. You may also bring your Bags to
School in on Friday before 9am. During the week you can bring your Shoebox for the
Samaritan’s Purse Shoebox Appeal—Friday is the deadline. We would also kindly ask for cake
donations for the Children in Need cake stall. We know it is a lot to remember, and a lot to ask
so we are very grateful in advance for your support and generous contributions to our many
and various causes!
With thanks for your ongoing support
Mrs S Stevenson, Head of School
Dear Parents/Carers
I would like to say a huge thank you to the warm welcome I have
received from the children, staff, parents and the Good Shepherd
Trust.
This is my 31st year in education, I have worked across at least six
London Local authorities and led a school on the South Coast,
undertaken consultancy work supporting leaders in a range of
schools and worked on behalf of the Institute of Education. Prior to
this role, I deputised for the CEO of a small multi- academy Trust.
I am so excited about how I can support and guide the work of the school in partnership
with Mrs Stevenson, our head of school, governors, the whole school team and the Good
Shepherd Trust.
The Weald is a great place to be and together we can achieve GREAT things.
Miss Sandra Miller, Executive Headteacher

LEGENDARY LEARNERS
What a lovely example of an Acrostic poem from Mollie in Year 2. It has lots of
description, and some really good observation.

NETBALL JUNIOR LEAGUE
Kaitlyn and Isla not only participate
in the school netball team. they also
represent Dorking within the
Nonsuch and Mid Surrey Junior
Leagues. Both girls took part in
their first tournament recently at
Manor House School playing
alongside other Year 6 girls from a
number of local schools. The girls
played various positions so that the
team gain experience and include all
the girls, as taking part is key for
the girls in the early stages. Dorking
Juniors won their first match but
despite all their efforts they lost the
second match.
Well done Kaitlyn and Isla—we hope
you enjoyed your tournament.
YEAR 5 AND 6 GIRLS’ FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT
Well done to our Year 5 and 6 girls’
football team who played
wonderfully in the DSP Tournament
last week. The girls had some
fabulous goals, beating one of the
other teams 5-0. Our team came
third overall, narrowly missing 1st
and 2nd place by just a few points.
As always the children behaved
beautifully and showed great
sportsmanship.
They were very proud of their
medals—and rightly so.
Today our KS2 gymnastics team are
competing in a DSP competition—we
wish them all the best.

£65 today. This was made up of 30 cupcakes and 16 squares
of chocolate cake at £1 each plus some kind and generous

Amellie says “thank you very much to everyone who
supported the Princess Trust”.
In addition, she will be sending £30 of her birthday money

...ON ANTI-BULLYING WEEK
Our Anti-bullying week starts on 11th
November. Each class will be working on
anti-bullying with a friendship focus, and
we will have assemblies, classroom work,
and workshops. The theme is ‘Change
starts with us’ and we have lots of poems,
scenario cards, and guided reading
activities which we will use throughout the
week.
Each class will work on its own 'Change
Starts with Us' charter, which will be
displayed in school along with poems,
pictures, photos and other work.
We will also have a visit from the NSPCC
on Monday morning who will launching
the week with an assembly on staying safe.
The assembly is part of the NSPCC’s
Nationwide Speak Out, Stay Safe
programme, and the ambition is help every
child in the UK to stay safe.
The week will end with our Odd Sock Day
and cake sale in aid of Children in Need.
This is a lovely opportunity for our
children to support children less fortunate
than themselves.
Here is some information from the anti-
bullying website:
THE THEME FOR ANTI-BULLYING
WEEK: CHANGE STARTS WITH US
We have worked with over 1,000 children
and young people to decide the theme for
this year. The theme aims are as follows:
Small change. Big difference.
Whether it is verbal, physical, online or in-
person, bullying has a significant impact
on a child’s life well in to adulthood. By
making small, simple changes, we can
break this cycle and create a safe
environment for everyone. Because
together, we can challenge bullying.
Change starts with a conversation. It starts
with checking in. It starts with work
together.
Change starts here.
Change starts now.
Change starts with us.

Please bring a suggested donation of £1 towards this wonderful
charity.
We will also be having a cake sale after school, hosted by FOTW.
