Interior designer Shirley Reinhardt has taken the condo to new heights with this renovation of what would otherwise be a dull condo. Located in the Alpine Meadows condo complex, it’s no bigger than the average condo, but inside it seams not only bigger, but more opulent. Start with the custom entertainment center/replace/ bar she designed for one end of the living room. It squeezes an enormous amount of use into a small stylish area. The replace with its stone hearth is in the center with the wide screen TV mounted over the mantle. On either side are bookcases, with the right side set up as a mini bar. The brown suede sofa faces a huge set of windows and a sliding glass door that opens to a deck. From the deck I can see one of the advantages of this unit. Sitting in the conversation area I can imagine that conversations ranging from the day’s ski adventures, to the latest Wall Street news, would feel right at home here. I walk across the mahogany colored hardwood oor to the remolded kitchen. We’ve all seen the condo cliché set of hanging cabinets that divide the kitchen from the rest of the room. What they really do is make both the kitchen and the rest of the condo seem smaller. Shirley had them removed and the entire area opened up. E’VILLE - Brewing with hot stones is a centuries old tradition (500 years to be exact) and once again the Ellicottville Brewing Company celebrates the lost art of stone brewing as it hosts its 15th annual Stein (German for stone) Beer event. The Ellicottville Brewing Company’s Stein Beer Celebration takes place this Saturday, June 12 from 11am-6pm ($20 per patron) at EBC’s Ellicottville restaurant, in the recently re-opened beer garden. “The Stein Beer Celebration is my personal favorite EBC event of the year because it’s fun and at the same time you learn something about different brewing techniques,” notes EBC president Peter Kreinheder. During the event, patrons are treated to EBC’s unique selection of beers and a pig roast – while at the same time the Stein or stone brewing takes place. And the brewing process is a spectacle in its own right, as large granite rocks are heated over an open cherry wood fi re. In keeping with tradition, the red-hot rocks are then moved from the fi re using some old logs, into a specially designed steel basket and taken to the brewing kettle (in order to heat up and boil the wort (a mix of water and barley malt). Getting the wort to the desired temperature level and then continuing to boil it involves several trips to the kettle over the course of the afternoon. “Not only is it fun to watch, but the event seems to attract a great mix of people of all ages

and walks of life who have a love for great beer,” observes Kreinheder. “And outside of Europe, you really can’t fi nd many brewing establishments that have either the experience or the desire to stage a Stein Beer event.” Adding to the beer purist’s

delight for the Stein Brew,EBC will also be inviting guest breweries to showcasesome of their beers. For more information about Saturday’s Stein Beer event, contact the EllicottvilleBrewing Company at 716-699-2537.

custom dining table and actual comfortable chairs. The result is the feel of a real dining room in a modest space. The wall at this end of the condo is painted dark brown to warmth and the illusion of a larger space. Up on the loft level, one wall was extended out a bit to create more privacy for the bedroom; despite the open wall that looks down on the living room. Shirley was even able to squeeze in a bath with a shower for this bedroom. The sink and accents refl ect the French Country décor and prevent the bath from looking like an afterthought. A row of hatch windows lets in the morning sun and brightens the room. A set of built-in drawers adds storage without taking up any space. Going downstairs to the bottom level, I fi nd the fun and imaginative girls bedroom. It virtually screams “Pretty in Pink.” The room is full of fun accents: hanging by the custom built bunk beds is a chandelier, and wrapped around two walls is a hand painted mural of, what else? A Paris street scene. The master bath features a custom walk-in tile shower with a full length glass door, in place of the standard tub. The bath feels like a bathroom you would fi nd in a much larger home. While small by any standard, the master bedroom features custom furniture and bedding that create the feel of a larger room. There is a sitting area at the end of the queen sized bed. The chandelier over the sitting area adds an elegant touch. Next to the wall mounted TV is a good sized walk-in closet. As I go to leave, I notice the entry area is designed as a mini mud room. There are benches for changing out of wet boots, cubbies with baskets, and plenty of hooks for hanging wet gear. The porcelain tile fl oor echoes the colors in the kitchen and the rest of the home. Outside, the exterior is the usual uniform

condo drab. It suggests nothing of the stylish and elegant space inside. Don’t forget the Chamber of Commerce Home and Garden Tour coming up

on July 3. Tickets are $15 advance purchase and $20 the day of the tour and are available at the Chamber offi ce, 9 W. Washington Street, Ellicottville.
