Brethren, It’s a new year! I hope this year is as enriched as the last one. I feel some mo-mentum we are in with making good men; better men. By my count we had 29 degrees last year, of which 8 Master Mason’s were raised. We are starting the year with 6 candidates that will be raised soon. That is ever lasting. Some of make a new year resolution every year…win the lottery, maintain your health, travel, buy a dog. While I don’t make them, my goal is to sustain what we are doing and look for ways to improve. We have a great line of volunteer officers who are dedicated and bring all types of talent to the craft. It’s that di-versity that makes us succeed. No one man built a pyramid. Our Masonic family is growing too, and we should do our best to support them. If you see the youth, ask them what they are up to. They have some fun events you could attend. Most importantly live every day with all that you can offer. Stay connected to others. God has a plan for all of us and we must honor that in our daily practic-es. It takes work. Try something different. You may like it.
Sincerely and Fraternally, Michael Rial Worshipful Master

,
Greetings:
I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and had a chance to take some time off, spend time with friends, family and loved ones, and overall recharge. We had a great time at the December Stated Meet-ing – complete with a 65-year pin presentation by the Grand Master! That was a very special presenta-tion. And A few laughs were had too. If you have not been out to lodge recently, please think about com-ing out – the brothers would love to see you. With the New Year here inevitably come resolutions. My Masonic resolutions this year are to make more time for brothers in need, improve my ritual work, support our youth organizations and, of course, work on bettering myself through Masonry. I hope you have a few Masonic resolutions as well – who knows – they might even include engaging with groups you might not have in the past (hint: DeMolay, Job’s Daughters ). In all seriousness, may the next year be filled with many prayers, great health, loving family and friends and a whole lot of masonic fellowship! As mentioned in last month’s article, this will be the first installment of “Getting to know…” As a quick re-minder, this series is intended to share some high-level background and a few “fun facts” about a newly raised brother. You may find out you have something in common. Getting to know…Kevin Irwin. Kevin was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason on November 7th, 2019, in our very own Sun City Lodge #72. Kevin was born in Ames, Iowa and moved to the Phoenix area at the age of 6. He is mar-ried to Melissa, and together they have a 7-year old son. Kevin is cur-rently a full-time student, pursuing a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychol-ogy. He expects to graduate in the next 6 months or so, and then begin 4 more years of education to earn his Doctorate degree. Kevin enjoys camping and hiking with his family – particularly in Northern AZ. He also shared that they even volunteer once or twice a year to hike at the Grand Canyon and clean up the debris/garbage left behind by other tourists! Please be sure to keep an eye out for Kevin, as we continue each of our masonic journeys together. I look forward to the next time we meet. May peace and harmony pre-vail. Sincerely and Fraternally, Matt Link Sr. Warden Sun City Lodge #72

Happy New Year Brethren,
Welcome to the roaring 20's.
As we welcome in the New Year we will again be busy in our work of making good men better and welcoming
new Brothers to the craft. Thank you for the support during the second degree of Brother Doug last month and
I look forward to 2 more degrees in the month of January. As we approach the upcoming third degrees I am
again putting out a plea for help. We have needs for new Brothers to learn parts of the second section as this
is very important to impress the candidates and to maintain the high standards of our Lodge. Please approach
Worshipful, Matt, or myself to get involved in these degrees.
Please if you are free, come to ritual practice. We welcome everyone as it is a great opportunity to learn more
about the ritual and not just for the officers.
The Stated meeting dinner will be provided by our Amazing Eastern Star Chapter 59 and the menu will be
Chicken Enchiladas, Mexican Rice, Refried Beans, and dessert. For the degrees the menu is not yet known
but will be sure to be a scrumptious offering sure to satisfy.
Did you know the oldest written records for a Lodge still open today are the Lodge of Edinburgh in the
UK? They date back to 1599. The first Masonic Lodge in America was organized in 1733 in Boston.
Thank you for all that you have done for the craft during 2019 and looking forward to another incredible year
Sincerely and Fraternally,
Marcus Hensley
Junior Warden

Lodge news
Merle Lang was celebrated for his 65 years of Masonic membership at Sun City Lodge on Thursday,
12 December 2019. Merle was raised a Master Mason on 14 December 1954 in Auburn Nebraska.
He relates that he married into a family of Masons and that his work boss, at the time, also was a mem-
ber of the local Masonic Lodge. Merle was 25 years of age when he was raised on the 14 December.
The next day, he left Auburn for graduate school studies. He has never returned to the Auburn Lodge
but has been a regular attendee at a number of Masonic Lodges. He currently regularly attends Sun
City Lodge.
In the picture below, Merle is wearing the special 65 Year Mason Apron presented to him by the Grand
Master of Arizona. In the photo are: (Left to Right) Brother Matthew Lawrence, Sun City Lodge Senior
Deacon; Brother Merle Lang; MW Brother Greg Vazquez, MW Grand Master of Masons in Arizona;
and WB Michael Rial, Worshipful Master of Sun City Lodge No 72.

Sun City Masonic Investment Trust –Investing In the Future
When the Sun City Masonic Center was first established, a number of masonic related people contributed their
time and resources to developing the building and property. Part of their efforts were to establish an investment
trust to provide financial support for a place where Masonic related groups and activities could be conducted. To-
day, the Sun City Masonic Investment Trust is administered by 5 Trustees elected for individual rotating 5 year
terms of office by members of Sun City Masonic Lodge. The Chairman of the Investment Trust Board is Randall
Sturdevant. Members of the Investment Trust must be members of Sun City Masonic Lodge.
The legacy established 30-40 years ago has developed into a Masonic Center which is used by many groups and
many of us enjoy today. With the expenses of today, the Sun City Masonic Center is not self-sustaining and de-
pends on donations from the group using the Masonic Center and the proceeds from the Trust investments. The
proceeds from the invested Trust principal are disbursed periodically and no longer provide a sufficient amount to
cover the ever increasing costs associated with the operation and maintenance of the building and grounds.
The Investment Trust Board oversees the investments and provides, pursuant to the Trust Agreement, a quarterly
amount that is distributed to assist with the operation of the Sun City Masonic Center. The principal of the Invest-
ment Trust was established through donations and contributions by members of the Masonic groups using the Sun
City Masonic Center. The Investment Trust continues to need donations and contributions to maintain and grow a
Trust principal that will provide for the future operating expenses of the Masonic Center.
Individuals, or the groups, desiring to assist in enhancing the legacy or those who founded the Sun City Masonic
Center, are always welcome to make contributions and donations to the Investment Trust principal. Donations and
contributions directed to growing the Investment Trust need to be specifically identified for the Investment Trust and
directed for adding to the invested principal. Routine donations and contributions made to Sun City Lodge No 72
assist the Lodge with current expenses but are not used to grow the principal of the Investment Trust. Individuals
and groups interested in exploring the opportunity to make a direct contribution to growing the Investment Trust
principal should contact Randall Sturdevant at 623.217.9426 or

Masonic tradition calls on us to aid and assist all distressed brothers, withersoever dispersed. can’t believe we are in another year.
Happy New Year.
May this year be a very prosperous and a very healthy year for all of our members and their fami-

include a ceremonial practice.
January 13 – is the Nile Stated meeting and a ceremonial with all units selling their wares.
Be prepared that at our March meeting we will be having elections.

Valley of the Sun DeMolay Chapter Activity Update
The picture below shows members of the Valley of the Sun DeMolay Chapter at a recent fundraising activity involving a Car Wash. The Chapter has been active with a number of events, both at the Chapter and Arizona State DeMolay level. In December, the Chapter Master Councilor, CJ Liquori, presided over the induction into the Chapter of his younger brother, Ryan. A special event for everyone involved!
DeMolay is a Masonic youth organization for young men. To be eligible to join DeMolay, three simple requirements need to be met by the applicant: + You are a young man between the ages of 12 and 21; + You are of good moral character; and, + And you be-lieve in a supreme being (all religions welcome). DeMolay Chapters confer two degrees for membership. The members engage in a variety of service and fun activities. Service events include working with adult Masonic groups and working in local community charity events. DeMolay members enjoy social activities with members of locally Masonic sponsored Rainbow Girl Assemblies and Job’s Daughter Bethels, as well as recreational events involving sports and electronic game challenges. The Chapter events and meetings are planned and run by the youth Chapter officers with guidance from the Dad Advisor.
Valley of the Sun DeMolay Chapter regularly meets on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month at 4:00 PM at the Sun City Masonic Center. Currently, the following local Master Masons serve on the Valley of the Sun Chapter Advisory Council: Bryon Howe; Matt Link; and David Zaucha. For further information about becoming a member of DeMolay or how to become a member of the Advi-sory Council, contact David Zaucha at 623.236.6307 or [email protected].

The West Valley Lodge of Perfection is meeting at the Sun City Masonic Center the first Thursday of
every month, September through May. The January 2020 meeting is scheduled for Thursday, 02
January. Lunch is served at 12 Noon and the meeting is scheduled for approximately 1:30 PM. The
January meeting will include the installation of 2020 Officers as well as information about the up-
coming Spring 2020 Reunion activities. All Scottish Rite Masons are invited to join in this fellowship
opportunity.
Twice a month, on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays, the Phoenix Valley Scottish Rite Masons serve lunch
to the less fortunate at St Vincent de Paul, 1075 W. Jackson Street in Phoenix. In January, the dates
are 09 January and 23 January. Most Brothers arrive around 10AM to assist in setup and enjoy in
some Brotherly interaction prior to serving. Serving is completed by 12:45 PM and afterwards we
share in some snacks. Serving those less fortunate at St Vincent de Paul is a very rewarding experi-
ence and something the Phoenix Scottish Rite has committed to for many years. All Scottish Rite
Masons are invited to come and help serve and enjoy in some Brotherly camaraderie. Below is a
picture of several of the Scottish Rite Masons, and several wives of the participating Brothers, work-
ing at St Vincent de Paul during the lunch hour on 12 December 2019.

SUN CITY CHAPTER 66 ORDER OF THE EASTERN STAR
Tresleboard Article
Sun City Chapter #66
Shery Goodman, Reporter
The holidays are quickly approaching and everyone is looking forward to the December 17th meeting and Christmas party – remember, we meet at the Lodge at 7:30 pm the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month. We’ll be enjoying treats and exchanging gifts (purchased for about $5.00) so members will be receiving some cute
and clever Christmas presents. To make the evening even more fun, we’ll gather to sing Christmas carols.
Our December 6th Official Visit surpassed expectations in every way. The special evening began with a spa-ghetti dinner – and oh those yummy desserts – enjoyed with friends from other Chapters who came to share this wonderful evening with Sun City #66 officers and members. We were so excited to have PGM Billie Brad-field, Right Worthy Grand Conductress and PGM Sue Peterson, Worthy Grand Adah, in attendance, along with 6 Past Grand Matrons and Patrons and 14 Grand Officers, celebrating our Official Visit of Worthy Grand Matron Susan Warren and Worthy Grand Patron E. Dean Powell. The Chapter collected new toys presented at the OV to our member, and Sun City Posse Executive Officer Vicki Foelsch, for Maricopa County Sheriff’s Officers to take to Agila, AZ for children who, if not for these donations, would not be receiving any Christmas gifts this year. It will make their lives so much merrier to know that people far away care about them and gave each
something very special to keep.
Our Chapter also donated $100.00 at Thanksgiving to the Valley View Food Bank and will be donating the dol-
lars to them we collected for Christmas.
Looking forward to our first meeting in the new year held January 7, 2020, we will honor our Secretary and
Treasurer, two very vital stations in our Chapter taking care of Chapter’s business activities for us.
The 2nd January meeting, on the 21st, we’re going to have a Surprise Party (Top Secret – I’m not giving any-
thing away – you’ll have to attend to discover our “surprise” for yourself).
We hope to see sister and brother members at our breakfast at Royal Café in Sun City on January 14th.
From the officers and members of Sun City Chapter #66 we wish everyone good tidings for a delightful Christ-
mas filled with memories you’ll always treasure and a New Year full of blessings!
Peoria CHAPTER 59 ORDER OF THE EASTERN STAR
January 2020 The holidays are now a memory and the New Year is before us filled with hope and gratitude. The member of Peoria Chapter hope everyone had a joy-ous holiday. Now it’s back to work! January 8 and 22 will be stated meetings for the Chapter. January10 we have a Lasagna dinner at the Lodge as a fundraiser for Safe Baby Haven. This program allows newborn babies to be safely placed at plac-es like fire stations and hospitals where they can be accepted and cared for. The Safe Baby Haven is our Worthy Matron’s special project this year. As a Registered Nurse, she sees many things and this program is close to her heart. The dinner is open to all and we would love to have you come. February 12 and 26 will be our stated meetings. February 15 the Chapter will have a Fashion Show and Luncheon to support Grand Chapter’s ESTARL project. The event is open to all and we would ap-preciate your support. Best wishes for a prosperous and Happy New Year.
Ad space is now available on the Trestleboard. You may purchase a business card
size for $120 for one year, or a larger ad for $200 for one year. (10 issues) Please
support our Brothers and Friends of the Lodge who advertise in our Trestleboard.
