VIEW FROM THE EAST
By Michael Dale, Worshipful Master
Greetings from the East Well the Barbeque has come and gone. We will not know the final outcome for some time. Money trickles in all year. Masonic training in Casa Grande has come and gone. The Knights Templar Easter Service was Easter morning . . . imagine that. We are moving along. We have degree work that has to be done and more on the way. I have been traveling quite a bit myself. I joined the York Rite body and have completed all but the last one. I have met many interesting brothers along the way. I hope to meet many more. We have had an interesting brother from North Carolina visiting with us. Sometimes he talks funny but because he is a brother we all understand. He even has filed a chair here and there. He was a blessing to have around. Sure could use some help here in the old Lodge. She misses many of you and welcomes all who come through her door.
MASONIC LIGHT
By the Rev. Dr. James M. Floyd, Jr., MPS
Are you a source of light, or of darkness? We create our own reality. What we expect from life is what we receive. If we expect and look for the trouble, disagreement, and negativity in situations then that is what we are sure to find. If however, we expect and look for the good, coopera-tive, and positive outcomes in situations that is what we will experience. Life cannot, and does not always go smoothly. We cannot appreciate the good times and the joys that life brings without the rough times and the sadness that must cross our path on occasion. It is our response to these times that defines who we are. Brothers, I am guilty of being a source of darkness. That is, in seeing and focus-ing only on the problems in lodge that I perceive need to be corrected. And in be-ing privy to, and a part of, the occasional personality conflicts that are destined to arise in any group. Yes, there are problems in every lodge. Yes, we do not always agree with, or get along with each other. This has always been, and always will be. But we cannot be negative about these difficulties. Our negative thoughts are like a cancer which spreads and weakens us, and those around us, emotionally, physically, and spiritu-ally. It is easy to fall into the trap of negativity or darkness. But, with effort on our part, and the assistance of the G.A.O.T.U., we can instead choose to open our eyes to the light. My Brothers, that light is Brotherly love. Love is being positive and expecting the best life has to offer. Love is knowing that, although our human frail-ties will result in disagreement, where there is hope and understanding there can be the peace and harmony to work together towards a common goal. So, for the sake of the Fraternity and your well-being, I urge you to make the commitment to change your life, to become a source of Masonic Light that, like the Sun in the heavens, all the world can see.

Brothers, Hopefully everyone has completed their taxes by the deadline. This year’s leadership conference was very informative. The two main themes were communication and tech-nology. There was also a lot of infor-mation and instruction on how to im-prove degree work and hints on how to be more proficient and inspiring in its delivery. Looking forward to events prior to going dark, Bikes for Books presenta-tions, the Annual Law Enforcement
Memorial Service on the 15th of May at the Quartermaster hosted by the Fra-ternal Order of Police. We would like to do a fundraising dinner at the lodge and get some use out of our grill! Of course, let us not forget degree work as candidates show their proficiency. We are still looking for assistance with the degree team, ideas for fund-raisers and filling our vacant committee positions. Fraternally, Brother Michael A. Kofta

SECRETARY’S TABLE
By Mikel White, PM
“THE WORSHIPFUL MASTER”
By Unknown
The Worshipful Master of a Ma-sonic Lodge is the highest ranking of all Lodge Officers which a Lodge may elect. The Worshipful Master sits in the East of the Lodge room (symbolic of the Rising Sun in the East) and directs all of the business of the Lodge. His position is similar to a President of any other organization. As Master, his word is final over any and all actions pertaining to his Lodge. It is his duty to "Set the Craft to work and to give them proper in-structions to pursue their labor." While the Worshipful Master's rank is the highest of all members, his Lodge Officer Duties are the easiest to remember. The Worshipful Master is responsible for every single thing within his lodge during his year as Master. He is ultimately responsible for every other lodge officer and their duties, every lodge committee, ritual and degree work, Masonic education, social functions, fundraisers, District and Grand Lodge liaison, Trestle Board communication, etc. All eyes are upon the Master. If lodge functions go smoothly, it is the Master who takes the credit. If lodge functions go awry, it is the Master who bears the blame. Therefore, the Master wears many hats. It is his
duty to preside over business meet-ings, the conferral of degrees, and delegation of duties to all other Lodge Officers.
While Freemasons call the Master, "Worshipful Master", they do not, as some people may erroneously be-lieve, actually worship him. "Worshipful" is an honorary title which shows respect for his position. In France, the word "Worshipful" is replaced with the word "Venerable". It is no different than respecting the office of our President of the United States. He would be addressed, for-mally, as "Mr. President" rather than by his first name. Likewise, if you go before a judge, you would address him as "Your Honor", rather than by his first name, as a measure of respect that you hold for his office.
