Qualification and certifications

MA in English Literature and M.Ed in Education Leadership and

Management.

Where are you from and where else have you lived?

I am originally from Hartlepool in the north-east of England. After a brief

stint in Russia, I moved to Ankara and then Istanbul, Turkey in 2000. I

moved to Bangalore last year.

What inspired you to get into education?

I like to work with young people in a creative and inspiring way. Getting into education, particularly in the

international system, seemed like a sensible decision.

What is your educational philosophy?

Education is built on relationships and these need to be strong throughout a school community. Students need

autonomy to develop the skills they will need later in life, and schools need to provide such opportunities. Students and

families need to value all aspects of education and get involved in everything that a school has to offer.

What made you choose Stonehill?

Stonehill seems committed to a very noble vision, which fits well with my own philosophy of education. This was the

first thing I asked about during the interview process. The community seems very positive and collaborative, and of

course, India is a fascinating place to live and work.

What is the best part of your job?

Helping students take leadership roles in the community is always pleasing, and opening up doors for teachers and

students to try new things, grow, and develop their skills is very rewarding.

What are your hobbies and interests?

I love all sports, particularly football. I also play the piano and the guitar whenever I have the opportunity. My two

best memories of my previous school are, coaching the high school girls’ football team and playing the keyboard in one

of our musical productions.

What is your favourite book?

After reading Tolstoy’s ‘War and Peace’, no novel has ever been good enough to compare. Also, the writings of the

French philosopher, Michel Foucault, completely changed my understanding of how the world works and how

knowledge is constructed. His books are mind-blowing.

What is your favourite music?

I like to listen to anything but if I have to decide, I really like all of the Guns‘n’Roses albums, anything by Garth Brooks

when I’m trying to relax, 1980s pop music from the UK, George Michael, Elton John, and any of the other legends that

have kept their careers going for decades.
