The Meadows Annual Tempe
Paramedic & Firemen’s
Fundraising Drive
To honor the paramedics &
firemen, we held a Special
Breakfast Saturday February
8th. This was a heartwarming event enjoyed by everyone. We
had a great turnout which showed
both the Paramedics and Firemen
we appreciate their service.
Thank you to all the residents
who donated to this worthy
cause. Our community raised
$5450.00 this year. And I also have to thank all the
volunteers that organized,
collected, and served.
These funds will help purchase
and maintain equipment used to
save lives every day.
Great job, everyone!

Neighborhood Spotlight on Terri Chiarella
Submitted by: Terri Chiarella
I have been a resident of The Meadows
for the past 5 years. I grew up in New
York and lived on Long Island for many
years. I attended Suffolk Community
College and graduated with an A.A.S.
Degree in Business & Executive
Secretarial Science. After scoring a
great job opportunity in Albuquerque, NM
I moved and made it my home. I lived in
NM for 26 years and worked as an
Executive Assistant for a Research and
Development Laboratory on Kirtland Air
Force Base.
While our company was on its annual
Christmas break, I came to visit family in
Tempe for the holidays and really enjoyed
the beautiful weather. I enjoyed
attending graduations, weddings, and
special occasions for family and friends at
various times during the year, so I was
very much aware of what AZ had to offer
weather wise.
After learning about The Meadows, I
came by the office on several of my visits
to Tempe to find out more about the
community. Needless to say, I really liked
the community and now make it my home.
I am an avid fan of the New York
Yankees, the Giants, and the AZ
Cardinals. I enjoy travel, dance, fitness
classes, (especially Zumba) volunteering,
and meeting people. I enjoy The
Meadows community and the many
activities offered to its residents.

THE DOG PARK
Please observe the following rules in order to make this area a positive experience for
all parties using and maintaining the park.
Dogs must be kept on a leash until both the owner/custodian and dog(s) are in the
dog park and the entry gate is fully closed after entry.
Dogs must be accompanied by their owners/custodians. Owners/custodians must
maintain voice control over their dog(s) and keep them in sight while visiting the
dog park.
Dog behavior can be unpredictable around other dogs and strangers. For the safety
of all the dogs at the park, immediately leash your dog if it exhibits aggressive
behavior and leave the dog park area immediately. To keep the dog park clean,
please do not groom the animals at the park.
Dogs must be older than 4 months and be currently licensed and vaccinated.
To discourage aggressive behavior, The Meadows Management recommends that
dog owners only bring animals that have been spayed or neutered. Absolutely no
female dogs in heat are allowed into exercise areas.
Smoking, alcoholic beverages and food are not permitted within the fenced area.
Some dogs exhibit unpredictable behavior around
small children. For their safety please do not bring
children under the age of 12 into the dog park area.
Owners/Custodians of a dog are responsible for the
acts and conduct of their animal at all times while in
the community. Park users and dog owners assume all
risks related to use of the dog park.
Enjoy the Dog Park!
Fun facts about St Patrick’s Day
1. St. Patrick's Day is an annual feast
day celebrating the patron saint the day
is named after.
2. St. Patrick's Day is the national
holiday of Ireland and is usually
celebrated on March 17.
3. St. Patrick's Day has become a popular holiday in the United States. People wear green and eat corned beef and cabbage.
4. It is believed St. Patrick, a Roman-Britain-born Christian missionary, was born in
the late fourth century and is credited with bringing Christianity to the Irish people.
5. It is also believed St. Patrick drove all the snakes out of Ireland. However, post-
glacial Ireland never actually had snakes. Many believe that the term "snakes"
referred to the serpent symbolism of the Druids of that time and place. Today, there are no snakes to be found!
6. Most people, whether they are Irish or not, wear green on this day. One of the
Irish traditions is to pinch anyone who is not wearing green on St. Patrick's Day.
7. Irish immigrants began observing the holiday in Boston in 1737, and the first St.
Patrick's Day parade was held in New York City in 1766.
8. Corned beef and cabbage are traditional foods eaten on this holiday.
9. The shamrock, pot-of-gold and leprechauns are also associated with St. Patrick's
Day. The shamrock was worn as a badge on the lapel. Three is Ireland's magic
number and the three petals that make up the shamrock are supposed to bring good luck. The three leaves also represent the Trinity in the Christian religion.
10. The leprechaun is a small Irish fairy. He is dressed like a shoemaker, with
pointed shoes and hat. He also wears a leather apron. Leprechauns are supposed to be unfriendly little men who live alone in the forest, spending all of their time
making shoes and guarding their treasures. If someone catches a leprechaun, he
will be forced to tell where he hides all his pots of gold. However, the leprechaun
must be watched at all times. If his captor looks away, the leprechaun will vanish
along with his treasure.
11. St. Patrick's Day has become a holiday all around the world. For one day out of
the year, anyone can be Irish and join in the celebration.
