CALVARY EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH of DOVER, PA
Please sign the red attendance books as they
are passed to you and pass them on.
*Please stand if you are able to do so.
ELW signifies Red Hymnal
The Holy Spirit calls us together as the people of God.
*Call To Worship……………………………….Pastor Woods
*Opening Hymn ……………………………. Chesterfield CM
Hark the glad sound! The Savior comes,
the Savior promised long;
Let ev’ry heart prepare a throne and ev’ry voice a song.
The Lord fulfills his promises, his cov’nant sworn of old,
To send a Savior, David’s Son, as prophets long foretold.
Blest be the God of Israel, who comes with us to dwell.
Repent of sin, prepare the way for our Emmanuel.
All glory to the Father give, with glory to the Son,
And glory to the Spirit sing, th’eternal Three in One!
3
*Litany……………………………………………….……..Pastor Woods and Congregation
P O God, we love the song of the Church—
C recalling your promises to us and the blessings you wish to release through us.
P The song of the Church has come down to us through the ages
C and we have every desire to pass it on as the melody of reconciliation.
P We want many to know what causes us great joy, much comfort, full hope:
C “How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who
publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness, who publishes salvation, who says
to Zion, ‘Your God reigns.’”
*The Lighting of the Advent Wreath……………………….………...Spoken Responsively
P Let us light four candles. The first candle is the candle of repentance. The second, the
candle of remembrance. The third, the candle of rejoicing.
C The fourth candle is the candle of reconciliation, for we know our sins have
separated us from God.
(All four candles of the Advent Wreath are lit at this time.)
P With one voice we join the Church’s song:
C Break forth together into singing, you ruins of Jerusalem, for the Lord has comforted
his people; he has redeemed Jerusalem!
*The Confession and Absolution …………………….………………...Spoken Responsively
P We, as members of the Church, have a desperate need for the message of reconciliation.
C Almighty God, I confess to you all my sins by which I have offended you. I deserve to
suffer for my sins, both now and in eternity. I am very sorry for all my sins and I pray that
4
you will look on me in mercy and forgive me for the sake of Jesus my Savior, who suffered
the punishment for my sins when he died on the cross.
P We rejoice with the whole Church that, through Christ, reconciliation with him and with all
our neighbors has been arranged. So with confidence I share with you that our Christ, by his
suffering, death and resurrection, forgives you all your sins, in the name of the Father and
of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit!
*Hymn of Praise ……………………………….…………………….………Consolation CM
The King shall come when morning dawns, and light triumphant breaks;
When beauty gilds the eastern hills, and life to joy awakes.
Not as of old a little child to bear and fight and die,
But crowned with glory like the sun that lights the morning sky.
O brighter than the rising morn when Christ, victorious, rose,
And left the lonesome place of death, despite the rage of foes.
O brighter than that glorious morn shall dawn upon our race,
The day when Christ in splendor comes and we shall see his face.
The King shall come when morning dawns, and light and beauty brings:
Hail, Christ the Lord! Thy people pray: Come quickly, King of kings.
*Prayer of the Day………….…………………………………………………Pastor Woods
O Heavenly Father, we praise you for the melody of reconciliation that is the Church’s song.
We rejoice that this message has come to us, and we pray that the song of reconciliation
will reach the ears and lives of all people and that our feet may have some part in bringing
them this wonderful message of reconciliation. In the name of Jesus, our reconciler. Amen.

*Prayers………………………………………………..Worship Assistant and Congregation
WA O Heavenly Father, we are so grateful for the song of the Church, the melody of
reconciliation.
C We bless you, O God of Israel.
WA We are so grateful that when we dis-member, when we cause alienation and
separation, you do not abandon and forsake us.
C You gather us to yourself and re-member us to yourself.
WA We are so grateful for all those whose feet brought them into our presence to share
with us the dramatic message of your love and forgiveness.
C Now bless our feet as we bring the message of your love to those who are separated,
alienated and alone.
WA Bless the message of the whole Christian Church, that many may be brought to love the
message of the angel, that this Jesus will save his people from their sins. It is in this
confidence and hope we pray. Amen.

with them our very lives. Each us patience and hope as we care for all those in need until
the coming of your Son, our Savior and Lord. Amen.
*The Great Thanksgiving………………………………….…………………...ELW PG. 206
The Lord be with you. And also with you.
Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise.
*Proper Preface………………………………………………………….……...Pastor Woods
8
It is indeed right and salutary that we should at all times and in all places offer thanks and praise
to you, O Lord, holy Father, almighty and everliving God. You comforted your people with the
promise of the Redeemer, through whom you will also make all things new in the day when he
comes again to judge the world in righteousness. And, so, with the Church on earth and the
hosts of heaven, we praise your name and join their unending hymn:
*Sanctus……………“Holy, Holy, Holy”……………………………………….ELW PG. 207
*Eucharistic Prayer……………………………………………………………...Pastor Woods
You are indeed holy, almighty and merciful God. You are most holy,
and great is the majesty of your glory. You so loved the world that you gave your only Son,
so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but have eternal life.
We give you thanks for his coming into the world to fulfill for us your holy will
and to accomplish all things for our salvation.
In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks;
broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for you.
Do this for the remembrance of me. Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave
it for all to drink, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all
people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me. For as often as we eat
of this bread and drink from this cup, we proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.
Remembering, therefore, his salutary command, his life-giving passion and death,
his glorious resurrection and ascension, and the promise of his coming again,
we give thanks to you, O Lord God Almighty, not as we ought but as we are able;
we ask you mercifully to accept our praise and thanksgiving and with
your Word and Holy Spirit to bless us, your servants,
and these your own gifts of bread and wine, so that we and all who share in the body and blood
of Christ may be filled with heavenly blessing and grace, and, receiving the forgiveness of sin,
9
may be formed to live as your holy people and be given our inheritance with all your saints.
To you, O God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,
be all honor and glory in your holy church, now and forever.
*The Lord’s Prayer……………………………………………………………...ELW PG. 208
*Invitation to Communion……………………………………………….……..Pastor Woods

*Post Communion Prayer………………………………………………….Worship Assistant
Holy One, we give you thanks, that in this bread and cup we have feasted again
on your endless love. Let that love overflow more and more in our lives,
that we may be messengers to prepare your way, harvesters of justice and righteousness,
and bearers of your eternal Word, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.
*Blessing………………………………………………………………………....Pastor Woods
10
May God direct you in peace, make you abound in love for one another and for all,
and strengthen your hearts until the coming of our Lord Jesus.
Almighty God, Father, ☩ Son, and Holy Spirit, bless you now and forever. Amen.
*Sending Hymn……. ……..…………………………………..…….……Veni Emmanuel LM
O come, O come, Emmanuel, and ransom captive Israel,
That mourns in lonely exile here until the Son of God appear.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel.
O come, thou Wisdom from on high, who ord’rest all things mightily;
To us the path of knowledge show, and teach us in her ways to go.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel.
O come, thou Rod of Jesse, free thine own from Satan’s tyranny;
From depths of hell thy people save, and give them vict’ry o’er the grave.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel.
O come, thou Key of David, come, and open wide our heavenly home;
Make safe the way that leads on high, and close the path to misery.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel.
O come, Desire of nations, bind in one the hearts of all mankind;
Bid thou our sad divisions cease, and be thyself our King of Peace.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel.

Announcements…Welcome To Calvary!
Coffee/Tea/Cold Beverages and Cookies are available for your enjoyment in the room off the
Sanctuary area between our 8:30 and 11:00 Worship Services. There are some tables and chairs in
the Narthex if you would care to sit down and visit with your church friends.
It’s not too late for you to search your hearts and step up to do your part in keeping your church running
smoothly and in a manner which glorifies our God Contact the person who is in charge of each area
listed on the time and talent form on the table in the Narthex or as found on page 43-44 of the
November Caller.
One of our dear sisters DORIS BEITZEL can no longer drive to come to worship services. If you can pick
her up and bring her to church PLEASE call her at 779-4679. She lives in the Springfield Apartments on
Kenneth Road. Ellen has made us aware of this situation and Ellen has volunteered to take her home
some Sundays, but cannot pick her up due to her Sunday School and Crossroads commitments. Please, if
you are close to the area, please volunteer to bring this sweet lady to church---it doesn’t have to be every
week, she would be happy with whenever you are available.
PLEASE...check out the papers on the table in the Narthex and choose some dates that are good for
you...then sign up to lead CHILDREN’S CHURCH! It’s fun. The kids are awesome. Just keep in mind, if
you do not have active clearances on file in the church office you cannot volunteer in this area until we
have your clearances on file. (Children’s Church: take the kids downstairs to Room7A after the
children’s message, read a story, give them a children’s bulletin to color/work on, and bring them back
upstairs in time to commune with their families. That’s all there is to it!)
Attention Parents of Infants: The nursery is downstairs in Room #1, that is the classroom closest to
Main Street, across from the flower room. Please, if you change diapers in there, place the soiled
diapers in the trash cans in one of the rest rooms, do not let them in Room #1.
Outreach Project: Comfy toes!!! We are collecting new socks of all sizes and colors to distribute to those
in need. Please place your donations in the box in the coffee area. Thanks so much! Marcia Feehan
If you know a young lady in grades 6 thru 8 who may be interested in the Girl Scout program, please call
Sue Ramos at 792-0724. Sue is bringing the Girls Scouts back to Calvary if there is enough interest.
It’s the time of year when the “business side” of Calvary starts looking towards 2016. If you are
responsible to submit an article for the annual report booklet, it MUST be in the office by 8 AM on
January 4, 2016. When your committee meets for the last time in 2015, write up that report and email it
to the church office. Reports will be printed January 8, 2016 for distribution on January 10 and 17.
Council has decided that the Annual Meeting will be January 24, 2016 between services (instead of the
last Sunday of January) and the New Member Brunch will be moved to a yet to be determined date in
February.
If anyone will be seeing a shut in if they could help by taking their Christmas Gift from Social Ministries. I
can put the gift bags under the mail boxes at church, each bag has a name on them. Thanks , LeeAnn
Marsden

Katharina von Bora Luther
Sunday, December 20, 2015
Born to an impoverished nobleman, Katie eventually took vows as a nun, but around age twenty-four she
and several other nuns who were influenced by the writings of Martin Luther left the convent. Six
children were born to Katie and Martin.
Stephen
Saturday, December 26, 2015
Stephen was a deacon and the first martyr of the church. He was one of those seven upon whom the
apostles laid hands after they had been chosen to serve widows and others in need. Later, Stephen's
preaching angered the temple authorities, and they ordered him to be put to death by stoning.
