Shenghi’s daughter, Narmin, is the manager, and she was born in Turkeybefore moving with her family to America; first New York, then Amarillo.Shenghi owned Bijan’s Persian Restaurant in Amarillo before opening Saf-fron. The restaurant is homey, with several nice art pieces on the walls, andboth Narmin and Bijan are very friendly and welcoming.

The menu is full of delicious, exotic-sounding dishes such as Gyros, madewith beef and lamb, tomatoes and onion; and their House Specialities areZereshk Polo, Sabzi Polo, and Bagali Polo, all accompanied with SaffronRice.

They offer a variety of ap-petizers, including Hummas, and Dole-Meh, a dish madeof grape leaves stuffed withground beef, vegetablesand spices. The Dole-Mehtakes several hours tomake, and has a nice, earthy taste from the grapeleaves, coupled with Saffronrice and tomatoes, and asweet-spicy sauce that isstrong on the tongue, burst-ing with flavour that leaves

a pleasant taste on the palate. The homemade hummas is mild with pleas-ant texture and a mixture of cucumbers, pickles, tomatoes and black olives.

The best sellers on the menu are the Kebobs, made with a choice of fillet, steak, chicken, lamb, shrimp or salmon. It’s interesting to note that the word“Shish” on Shish-Kabob translates to “skewer” from the Kurdish. The meatused in the food is Halal, meaning it is prepared according to Islamic cus-toms.

All plates are served with fresh, homemade Naan, a crispy flat bread thatBijan bakes in a special oven after he hand-rolls the dough. He will alsomake Naan on request for parties or individuals.

Everything is made from scratch by Bijan, including the yoghurt drink, Doog. Some items are bought, such as the grape leaves or Saffron rice, but themajority of the food is made on the premises. There is even a small grocerystore in back of the restaurant, where customers can buy menu items to takehome.

Saffron also offers Hookas, aTurkish water pipe with tobaccoflavors such as banana, apricotand mint for $5.99. One of themore popular flavours is Apple. The hookahs come in only onesize, and usually last 45 minutesto an hour. Disposable tips areused, and the pipes themselves areornate and unique. The smokingroom is separate from the mainrestaurant, and customers canwatch TV while they relax andenjoy a hookah, or their meal. Thehookahs and tobaccos are also forsale.

Several desserts are also available, including Persian-style ice cream, madewith saffron, rose water and pistachios, baklava, Faloodeh, Bamieh, andcheesecake. Dip a piece of the Noon in the honey from the baklava to haveyet another sweet treat.

Saffron offers catering for parties or special occasions at home or the of-fice. A buffet lunch is available from 11:00 AM-2:30 PM Monday throughFriday. They serve beer and wine, domestic and imported, as well as so-das and peach or iced tea. If you want a hot drink, they off er hot tea, cappuchino, hot chocolate or coffee.

Saffron Restaurant is open Monday through Thursday 10:30 AM-8:00 PMor Fridays and Saturdays from 10:30 AM-10:00 PM. Closed Sundays.

With the option of dine in, take-out, call-in or drive-through, enjoying tradi-tional Middle Eastern fare right here in West Texas is as easy as a phonecall. They can be reached at 806-367-8899.

Try Saffron restaurant, and be sure to tell Bijan and Narmin “Merci” forwhat will be an excellent meal.

Would you like the opportunity to drop a couple of those extra inches beforeyou hit the beach this summer? With It Works! you can do just that in as littleas 45 minutes. It Works! is the largest growing multi level company in theWORLD. It Works! Ultimate Body Applicator is a site-specific body wrapdesigned to target abs, back, legs, arms and chin area. It is made of a non-woven cloth that helps you loose inches, improve skin texture, moisturizeand tighten and tone. Most people loose 1-3 inches in 45 minutes (Somepeople have lost as much as 12-14 inches in one application). My momwore hers to bed and the next morning she had lost 5 inches.

This is how the wrap works! 80% of the product is absorbed within the 1st45 minutes you wear it. You can wear the wrap longer if you choose to. TheHerbs form the wrap are absorbed through the pores of you skin andpenetrate 4 layers to the fat layer, where we store fat toxins, which are thenexcreted. Drinking lots of water while you wear the wrap is extremelybeneficial.

Originally this Product was used as a massage lotion in Elite Spas in Europeand Mexico, Costing around $300 per treatment. Clients were noticing thatinches were just falling off of them after their massages. Pam Sowder heardof this and knew that she had to share it with Everyone! She started usingthis product and lost 5 sizes.

Her best friend, Mark Pentecost (also Multi-millionaire) is who she went to

Get Your “Sexy” Back...with her new found discovery in aims of marketing this product to sharewith all of us. Luis Mijares sold rights to the formula to this product to Markfor 5 Million Dollars. Luis’s Passion for research and development in skincare and biotechnology began when he was a child. He believes in keepinghis ingredients all natural. To thisday he remains a close friend anda big part of the It Works! Team.

It Works! has been marketed nowfor for 8 years. Still being a newand growing company, it was ahuge achievement to be invited tothe Emmy’s this past year. Every starreceived a gift basket with theUltimate Body Applicator and someof their nutritional supplements.Several of the stars, includingLeeza Gibbons, Paula Abdul andMario Lopez experienced the wrapand purchased more to take home.

It Works! is an extremely safe alternative to liposuction without surgery! TheApplicators don’t work by making you sweat out water, they actually help torelease toxins form your fat cells, not water! It is encouraged that you drinklots and lots of water to assist in flushing your body of the extra toxinsreleased form your fat cells. Everyone of us have fat cells. We have thesame amount of fat cells the day we are born to the day we die. Theyexpand and shrink. When you diet or work out, you don’t lose fat cells, youlose the “Subcuntaneous Fat” inside the cell.

It is recommended that you use the Applicator once a week to achieve yourweight loss goals, but it is safe to use every 4 days if you choose to. It s isnot safe, however, to OVER Detoxifyyour body. It can actually bedangerous to use more than oneApplicator in a 4 day time period.

The Ultimate Body Applicator is notthe only product that It Works!offers. They have nutrit ionalsupplements, defining gels, skincare, and a l ine of companionproducts to assist with weight loss. All Products that It Works! offer aremade with natural ingredients. Thisstandard of providing the bestquality supplements on the market

has carried through all of their product formulations and remains the drivingforce behind their supplement line.

My roommate and I had a local sales representative (Gale Jones) for thecompany come out to our house so that we could experiment with this newproduct. I personally lost 2" in the 1st 45 minutes and 2 days later I haddropped another 1-1/2". My roommate lost 1-1/4" the 1st application and 2days later she had dropped another 2". So results for everyone differ onmany levels. Gale informed me that some people bloat during the use oftheir first application but that it was ok because that meant that the productwas working on those fat cells and that results would quickly be noticeable.

Gale Jones is a local sales representative for the It Works! company andshe is a walking testimony that the product WORKS. Walk into Goodin’s Jewelry at 3701 Olsen Blvd in Amarillo, and the first thingyou will notice is a warm, friendly greeting from owners Paul and DebbieGoodin.

In the jewelry business for almost 35 years, Paul and Debbie formerly ownedA&G jewelry repair on Wolflin before opening their current location almostsix years ago. Paul did benchwork for several jewelry stores before theydecided to open their own place, and because of that experience, Goodin’scan offer in-store jewelry repair. They can size your rings, clean them, solder, reset jewelry, refinish and also do watch repair.

They sell all types of jewelry, including fine jewelry, platnium, white and yel-low gold, sapphires, rubies, diamonds and Sterling Silver jewelry. They alsohave a large selection of Tungsten and Titanium jewelry, as well.

Their bridal sets come in white, yellow, two-tone and platnium, with guys preferring tobuy just the engagement ring and come backlater with their betrothed to pick out bands. The current trend is white gold, but 95% ofcustomers pick diamonds for their weddingsets over any other jewel. Paul and Debbiecan handle custom-designed wedding bandsif the customer has a specific design in mind.

Goodin’s also carries exclusive brands of jew-elry, meaning no one else in Amarillo isliscensed to carry that brand. These brandsinclude Lorenzo, which has sterling silver and

18-karat two tone jewelry. Fossic Jewelry, which consists of fashion jewelrywith a base of sterling silver.

The most fascinating line of jewelry exclusive to Goodin’s is the Kameleonbrand. Called “Jewel Pop”, this unique jewelry is sterling silver with inter-changeable jewel “pops” that can be popped out of the ring and replaced

Every so often, you find a neat little store tucked out of the way, and yet inplain sight. Custom Gifts, in the Bell-Hillside shopping center, is one ofthose places.

Virgie Cook, wife of the late WR “Cookie” Cook, owns the store, as well asthe entire shopping center. Friendly, spry and savvy, the 82 year old cookhas a good outlook on life, and bases her success on the philosophy of

with another. The jewel pops come in rings, necklaces, earrings, brooches and even su nglasses!

The jewel pop and jewelry are soldseperately, with the prices for the“pops” ranging from $20.00-$39.00.The jewel pops come in fun, inter-esting designs such as a pink andsilver ying/yang symbol, aseahorse, malachite, tiger’s eye andmany, many more designs.

Goodin’s also sells loose diamonds, all cuts and get any quality stoneavaiable. Quality affects price, and they can order pink or yellow diamondsif requested. Their precious gems range from sapphires to aquamarine, andtheir semi-precious gems include peridot, citrine and topaz.

While the bridal sets are the biggest seller at Goodin’s, the most unusualrequest they’ve ever had was a customer coming in and wanting two loosediamonds to put in his teeth (grille).

Other top sellers are their gifts, and include baby jewelry, kitchen gifts, pic-ture frames, ID bracelets, wedding gifts, cufflinks, and rediffusers. DebbieGoodin says they “try to find the unique”, and the rediffusers are unique. Therediffusers come with an essential oil that is poured into a jar, and then thescent is diffused in the air, using either wooden reeds, or, if it’s a burning

diffuser, a wick. There are severalscents of essential oils, giving a widevariety of flavours to choose from.

Paul and Debbie personally know manyof their customers, and have had a lotof customers follow them from their oldlocation to their current one.

“We enjoy getting to knnow our cus-tomers,” Debbie says, and that’s indeedtrue, as most of the customers that come

in know the Goodin’s on a first name basis, and vice-versa.

Friendly service and atmosphere is important to the Goodin’s, as well asmaking sure their customers know that they can trust the Goodin’s with theirjewelry. Paul stresses that “service after the sale” or customer service, is theirbiggest goal, and you’ll get it at Goodin’s jewelry.

Located west of Maddie’s Madhouse Cafe and across from The Photo Store,Goodin’s Jewelry is open Monday through Friday from 9-6, and Saturdaysfrom 11-5. They can be reached at 806-351-2634. Their store is easy to get to,and the customer is always treated with hospitality and genuine appreciation.

hard work and doing good for others. And a hard worker she is!

Mrs. Cook started out by owning Fashion Corner of Amarillo, building herfirst store in 1969. She eventually branched out to a total of seven FashionCorner stores. Her husband, Cookie, worked as Supervisor for the formerWirtz Construction group. He helped build several of the schools in Amarillo, the municipal building, and worked on the construction of Amarillo College.

When the shopping center was f inished in 1997, the Cooks moved to theircurrent location to watch over their property.

Assisted by her sister-in-law, Linda Cook,Mrs. Cook sells such things as authentic indianjewelry, trinket boxes, wall crosses, and someclothing. “We sell what we like”, Virgie sayswith a friendly smile.

Take a look around, and you will surely findsomething to suit your tastes. There are thecrocheted kitchen towels on the wall, crocheted by Linda, and an adorable

collection of frog figurines on the backcounter. A collection of lady bugfigurines sit contentedly on anothertable, and a curio cabinet near the frontcounter holds even more treasures.

Custom Gifts carries several lines ofcandles, such as Sterling andJanik. They also have a selection ofHeart of the Prairie candles out ofClinton, Oklahoma that are big sellers. The primary lines at Custom gifts are

candles, Avon and indian jewelry. Licensed to sell Avon from the store,Custom gifts has a few of the company’s products for sale, or you can go inand order from Virgie herself.

The decor is very southwest, and many of Custom Gifts customers are fromfoot-traffic, walk-ins. They offer small gifts for people that would rather notshop at the bigger retailers.

Jewelry is a big seller at the store, with some antique and crystal earringsfor sale as well as the Indian Jewelry crafted by Michael Rosetta. Cook also

carries imported pottery, and has a smallselection of laser cut crystal. But, as the la-ser cut crystal supplier is no longer in busi-ness, the selection in the store is the last ofit.

Virgie prides herself on her hard work, andsays that if you’ve worked hard as long asshe has, then you have no reason to be em-barrassed by your success.

Walk into Custom Gifts, meet Virgie andLinda, and take a look around. You’recertain to find something to turn yourhead, and take home with you. CustomGifts, located at 5901 S. Bell, C-9, isopen from 10am-5pm Monday throughSaturday. Their phone number is806.354.2789. Go on in and say hello toLinda and Virgie. They’ll be glad youcame in.
