Reporting to: Technical Officer

Role Purpose: To provide a handyperson service for older and disabled beneficiaries that includes minor repairs, adaptations, and other works as required to help residents to live independently, safely and securely in their homes. Key Responsibilities:

To liaise with Independent Living Advisers and/or Regional Technical Officer on work to be completed including; the determining of works required and advising on material costs.

To liaise with colleagues, partners and stakeholders to ensure that clients are referred for appropriate services.

To maintain accurate records of work carried out and advice provided to clients for performance monitoring purposes.

To carry out household checks and provide guidance on energy, security and home safety, as instructed by the Technical Officer. Highlight any areas of concern immediately to the Technical Officer.

Complete all booking documents and records as instructed, returning them to the central administration office each week, including weekly Vehicle Safety Checks,

Risk Assessments, Home Fire Security Checks (where applicable) and any other documentation requested by the Administration Office, the Technical Officer, the Independent Living Regional Lead or the Independent Living National Lead.

To log all complaints and instigate the complaints procedure as required through the Poppy Calls – Call Centre Manager.

To promote the work of the service through the distribution of Leaflets and Materials. To promote the service amongst other local Health, Welfare and Social Care Agencies.

Attend area and regional team meetings, as required.

To monitor and report monthly on levels of held stock to the Technical Officer.

To check the internal database on a daily basis to ensure the correct scheduling of work, and for amendments or cancellation to existing workloads. Update database with details of the jobs completed and materials used, cost, time taken on each job, as well as recording the results of home checks such as fire safety or energy efficiency and other systems, as necessary.

To maintain in good working order Legion equipment (including Vehicle, Laptop and Mobile Communication).

To undertake all development training required to undertake the role to a satisfactory standard.

To remove waste and debris after completing the required work and to leave the site clean and tidy.

To carry an identity card at all times and to show this to the client before entering their property.

To report any accidents including personal injury or damage to the client’s property, including near misses.

Any other duties as are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job, the title of the post and its grading as requested by the line manager or Head of Department/Division.

a) Where appropriately qualified, undertake complex plumbing/carpentry jobs, or jobs related to specific qualifications, share knowledge and expertise with colleagues and assist colleagues with more complex jobs.

b) Where appropriately qualified, undertake electrical work, including installing sockets for charging EPVs, fitting security lights, electric showers and assisting with quality assuring electrical work of external contractors.
