Refreshments will be served. City Council Positions

The general election will be held on Tuesday, November 3rd; polls are open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Three candidates will be elected to start serving in January 2016. The candidates are as follows, listed alphabetically by last name:

Safety Alert The council, mayor, and sheriff's department

ask that everyone please take extra care to make sure you lock your home.

There have been a recent string of burglaries mainly from North Logan to Richmond. All of these crimes were crimes of opportunity—doors and windows left open or unlocked.

The Cache County Sheriff's Office, Smithfield Police Department, and North Park Police Department are all looking into this situation.

Please make sure all doors and windows are closed and locked. This is a good reminder for all of us to be more cautious and alert to our surroundings.

If you see something suspicious, contact dispatch at (435) 753-7555. If you see something that is an emergency, call 911. If you experience an intruder at your residence, please do not pursue the individual(s); call 911.

This is just a reminder to make everyone aware and alert to your surroundings. Winter Parking Restrictions

Winter parking restrictions go into effect on November 1st and continue through March 15th. No parking on the street or City right-of-way is permitted between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. during those months. This is for the protection of your property and the safety of our snow plow drivers. Also, parents, please take time to instruct your children that playing on and behind the plowed snow berms can be dangerous and even fatal. The plow drivers have extremely limited vision when “pushing snow.” We will also appreciate it very much if you will remove empty garbage and recycle cans just as soon as possible on Fridays. If you are

interested, the entire ordinance (Section 11-345, Title 11-000) can be read on your City website.

Please also be aware that the city assumes no liability for damage to personal property that occurs when it is placed in the city right-of-way (i.e. from snow plows). Contact Councilmember Paul Erickson if you have questions. Operation Give

The American Legion Auxiliary of Richmond is again teaming up with Operation Give to collect items to send to our troops for Christmas. A container has been placed at the city office where you can bring your donations. We want to show our appreciation to those who are serving our country.

If an excess of Halloween wrapped candy was collected, please consider donating it. It will be mixed with Christmas candy and put in stockings. Operation Give and the Auxiliary also have 200 stockings that people can pick up and fill, then return to the American Legion. Contact Patricia Forsgren or Elaine Ward or pick it up at the Veterans presentation November 5th.

Along with items, we would like to send cards and letters; whatever you can give will be appreciated. This is something that can be done by individuals, families or groups. See the last page for information.

Veteran Memorial

It has been fourteen years since the dedication of the Richmond Veteran Memorial. We advertised for and gathered Richmond veterans’ names over a year prior to the completion of the memorial. As the names came in, the committee decided the names would be placed under the most prominent war they fought in. Names would be placed randomly so people would have to read other names while looking for a specific name. This way others would also receive recognition for their service. Our engraver of the 697 names donated his time, and his place of employment allowed him usage of their machines after work hours. Since that time, he has retired and the business has changed their policy about the usage of the machines.

We are appreciative of the terrific job that came about because of their generosity.

The name plates were secured on the pedestals of each branch of service. They were secured and sealed so they would be safe from various kinds of damage. Because of this, it is time consuming, costly and—most importantly—likely to cause damage to the pillars to remove them. It was decided that newly requested names would be placed on existing space when a sufficient amount of names were collected.

At this time we have requests for only 4 names. If there are any veterans living in Richmond, or others who have family members that were veterans that had lived in Richmond and would like their names added to the memorial, please give your names, war service, proof of Richmond citizenship, and contact information to the city office. When we have a sufficient amount of names, we will take a pIate down and add all collected names.

We are grateful for those citizens who understand the work, time, cost, and need for protection of our beautiful memorial. We are fortunate to have such a beautiful memorial for our veterans, and thank all who helped to make it so.
