Jakob gets up for the mark against Fountain Gate/Parkmore

With just three weeks to go, things are looking good for a number of teams in our Junior Club with regards to finals qualification.

The Youth Girls team have now managed two wins and a draw with all the girls showing improvement on last year. With only three rounds to go, the girls have started playing some really good football, melding as a team and having the right attitude which will stand them in good stead for next year. The Under 9s have had some great games and it is always great to see the determination and sportsmanship that our youngest players display every week. They really get in there and work together as a team and above all have a lot of fun. After moving up a Division from last year, the Under 10s have met some competition but have still managed to win all of their games and if they stick together will be a formidable team in the Under 11 competition. The Under 11s may just miss out on finals, currently sitting fourth on the ladder but here’s hoping that a few wins in the next weeks will get them there. The boys and girls have fought hard, showing great teamwork and determination in all their games. The Under 12s have had five out of eight wins and are looking good for finals. They have to continue to show the determination to succeed, getting the footy and playing a better class of football than the opposition and they are certainly capable of doing just that. The Under 14s are currently sitting on top of their ladder having won all but one game. The players display some fantastic teamwork and discipline when moving the ball around the oval. Some fantastic efforts over the weeks from all players in the forward line and in defence and we look forward to seeing them in the Grand Final in August. And finally the oldest age group, the Under 15s who have also got off to a pretty good start. Currently sitting third on the ladder they have a pretty good chance of making it to finals. The boys have shown some great teamwork and the skills are improving all the time. We have seen some terrific marks, some great kicking and wonderful defence throughout the season. If they keep this up they sure to get in the top four. Come and watch them play this Sunday 26 July at 11.30 at Tooradin against Officer.

President’s ReportToday we welcome Narre Warren to our home. They come

here breathing fire after a tumultuous couple of weeks where they were involved in an after the siren melee with Cranbourne that is still under investigation, and back to back losses to both Cranbourne and Berwick. For many years now we have not been able to beat Narre. They have been the powerhouse club of our league and at one stage won 44 games in a row; over the past ten years there has hardly been an AFL club in Australia with a better record across all grades of football. However last year they didn’t make the grand final, and this year they definitely appear to have come back from their form of several years ago. In contrast to this, our form is slowly improving over the season, with losses over the past two weeks to Berwick and Cranbourne when on both occasions we were in positions to win the games. I am predicting that today our young side will make a statement and roll the boys from Narre Warren. We have the home ground advantage and nothing to lose. What the team will definitely need is to hear some support from our crowd, over the past few weeks this has been sadly lacking. Let’s make some noise and give the team the support they deserve. A home ground advantage comes from knowledge of the ground and support from the home crowd, and that is not visible unless we cheer our team.Last week was our Sponsors Luncheon and although there were less attendees than other years they were still presented with a lovely two-course meal and some informative interviews of key people around our club. We hope our sponsors enjoyed the day and that they understand that we greatly appreciate their support of our Football and Netball Clubs. Thanks to Jan and Rosalie for helping with contacting our sponsors. Our XR6 Falcon Ute raffle is creating a lot of interest with inquiries about the raffle coming in from varying areas; please be aware that nearly all senior players have raffle books, along with committee members. Today tickets will be available from the Seagull’s Nest Bar and also from Bill Friend who will be loitering around the Ute with a flouro vest on, you can’t miss him so make sure you all have a ticket in the raffle as it is our sole major fund raiser for the year, and it is a ripping prize, regardless of whether you need a new ute or you are just going to sell it once you win it.Although the weather has started to get pretty cold both on training nights and game days, we have been pleased with the amount of players continuing to train in the arctic conditions, it’s evidence that players are committed to our club and they have the desire it takes to continually improve,; we 100% believe that the work we put in now will pay off in seasons to come. And for those who have not been to our games lately you would not know that we have bought the heaters out again and it’s quite comfortable to get under the awning in front of the Seagull’s Nest Bar and be part of the mighty Seagulls crowd.I have had a bit to say today about us getting behind our side and I hope you are all able to contribute today and be part of a big win.

Fly high you mighty Seagulls!, Derek Genoni, President

At home again, I could really get used to this!!! Welcome to the Narre Warren Netball and Football Clubs today.

Last week produced some mixed results for the netball girls. We came away with three wins which was really pleasing. Well done to the 17 and under red girls on a well fought out three goal win and to the 15 and under red girls on pushing their opposition all the way to the line, only going down by three goals. The award winners were as follows: 13s White - Ella Murray and Mikaylah Flower. 13s Red - Sasha Williams and Bridget Holloway. 15s White - Georgette Wachal and Renee McLeod, 15s Red - Chelsie Edwards and Breeana Gibson. 17s White - Courtney Wade and Laura Sculley, 17s Red - Tayla Ostrom, Mary McGindle and Katey Rudolph. Great job award winners, keep up the hard work!In the seniors we came away with two wins. C grade keeping their finals spot alive with a nine goal win against fourth placed Cranbourne. B Grade came away with the four points in a thriller, winning by two goals. Senior award winners were D Grade - Lisa Dolan, Hayley Schreurs and MVP Lisa Dolan. C Grade - Ellie Brooke, Jayne DaRose and MVP Teagan Bennet. B Grade - Loretta Iverach, Jamieson Rendall and MVP Michelle Barnes. A Grade - MVP - Alex Duff . Just a reminder that Round 16 against Beaconsfield is junior round, where all senior players will be in attendance to watch allocated junior rounds. A Grade players will also be running a clinic for the 13s and 15s on the Tuesday night prior to this round. Thank you to the players who have volunteered to help out the juniors. Also a big thank you to Shannon Williams for organising the pie fundraiser and to the players who went to the effort to put in an order, your support is appreciated! Can’t wait for the delivery of our yummy pies!!

Good luck to all teams today. Go Seagulls!
