An 8-month engagement that aligns leadership and organizational practices to build stronger nonprofits Focuses on strengthening capacity in two of the following areas: Board Development, Fundraising, Resource Alignment, and/or Program Evaluation Priority consideration is given to organizations that are led by people of color (i.e. either the Executive Director or a majority of the members of the Board of Directors, including the Board Chair, self-identify as people of color), and/or where at least 50% of the children/youth served are Washington, DC residents who are experiencing poverty The 2021 Pathways Partnership runs from October 2021 - May 2022 Your organization has the resources (people and time) to maintain programming and operations while engaging in an 8-month partnership Your organization's leadership is ready to focus on intensive capacity building efforts Your programs and services impact the lives of children, youth and families experiencing poverty in Washington, DC Your organization's board has at least one member who is able to participate in the partnership The Pathways Partnership Our ideal partners seek to deepen their impact; serve more children, youth, and families; and take their leadership and organizations to the next level. Participate in cohort and alumni eventsand activitiesJoin Fair Chance's online forum forExecutive DirectorsAttend a celebration event at the end ofthe partnershipComplete evaluation surveys

Attend an orientationParticipate in a comprehensiveorganizational assessmentCollaborate in the development of awork planCommit 8 hours a week to makingprogress on the work planHave a board member engage in BoardDevelopment (2-3 hours/week forapprox. 3 months), if we work in thatarea

Our Partnerships are intensive and deeply rewarding. Partnership work is primarily done byExecutive Directors and Capacity Building Specialists. When necessary, members of staff andthe board of directors participate in activities. Partners agree to:

PARTNERSHIP PROCESS

Capacity Building Specialistsand Executive Directorsdevote 8 hours/week to

partnership work, includingweekly meetings

To be considered for partnership, organizations must have:

A current tax-exempt status underSection 501(c)(3) of the InternalRevenue Code

A mission, or at least one program, thataddresses the specific needs ofchildren, youth or familiesexperiencing poverty in Washington,DC

A need for stronger practices, policies,and tools in at least two Pathwayscapacity building areas

At least one program that has beenrunning for a year or longer and willcontinue running next year

An Executive Director (paid or unpaid)who

can commit 8 hours a week duringthe partnership to capacity buildingwork, including weekly 2 hourmeetings with a Capacity BuildingSpecialist during Fair Chancebusiness hours (9AM - 6PM)

has held the position for at leastone year prior to the applicationdeadline and intends to remain inthis position for the duration of thepartnership

A Board of Directors made up of atleast three members, with a BoardChair who is not the Executive Director

Affiliates of a national or internationalnonprofit must also meet these additionalcriteria:

Be locally-focused (embedded in thecommunity) and have the flexibility totailor their program(s) to meet localneeds and context

Have a locally-focused board that isresponsible for supporting their workin Washington, DC

Have sufficient staff and resources todeliver their Washington, DCprogram(s)

Completion of the PathwaysPartnership is not a pre-requisite toapply for the Praxis Partnership

Once an organization has completed aPartnership program, the organizationcannot reapply for the same program
