Dress up your gifts with these cute die-cut bow ties!

BOW TIE GIFT WRAP BY ANGI BARRSDad's are the greatest dudes out there. It's fun when you can come up with something

unique to help them celebrate Father's Day!

This year I've decided to make my own gift wrap. The Special Delivery paper is the perfect

choice for gifting. I simply used recycled boxes and dressed them up with paper. There's

no need to use all blue paper either. Try mixing it up a bit with green, black, and white as

I've done.

I also used the Special Delivery Paper and my die cutter to make a bow tie for each

package. It really dresses up a boxed or bagged gift too.

SUPPLIES: GCD Studios Pattern Papers: Special Delivery Collection: Dillon (2040), Calvin's Race (2039), George (2037), Scott's

Stamp Collection (2047), Paperclips (2054).

BOW TIE CARD BY NINA YANGSpecial Delivery is a hip boy/male collection for the men in our lives. I cut a tie shaped card

with my digital die cut machine and did a little collage for the focal. I love that the cardstock

label stickers in this collection has lots of cool patterns and great sentiments too, like the "One

Tough Guy" sticker I used on my card.

FATHER'S DAY TREAT BOX BY SARA ZENGERIt's time to celebrate Father's Day! I love shopping for the perfect gift for my dad and helping

my son pick out one for my husband, but what I love more is packaging these gifts!

This is a kraft take-out container that I bought (in bulk) for previous gift giving. I was so excited

to use the Special Delivery collection to create this treat box! It's a must-have for anyone with

a boy in their life and great for every age range! I layered several of these handsome papers

to create a wrap around the box and then added some details with twine, paperclips, and cut

outs. To top it off I added this adorable bow tie. Be sure your gift wrap is as special as your gift!.

SUPPLIES: GCD Studios Pattern Papers: Special Delivery Collection: Dillon (2040), Heidi (2041), George (2037), Guido (2042),

Alpha Stickers (2051), Label Stickers (2052), Paperclips (2054). Other supplies: Kraft take-out container, bakers twine, fabric

Tell us a little about yourself?

I have always LOVED paper! ALWAYS!

When I was a little girl my dad owned

a printing business in our garage and I

cherished helping him with orders. I loved

the sound of the machine pulling the

paper through the wheel and seeing the

finished product. Before scrapbooking

became what it is today, he would allow

me to use his supplies to make little books

and cards.

I grew up as the baby of six children and

with so many of us in one home, my mother

was very creative with her resources. I loved

the concept of being a mommy someday

and crafting as a hobby. I guess you can say

I'm a lot like my mom in that department,

because I learned how to sew, paint and

garden by the time I was 6. Right after I

became a mother, I found a hobby that

was just for me… the scrapbook industry.

I can't believe it's been 10 years from

when I made my first layout, but here I

am and I can honestly say that my love

for paper crafting grows more and more

each day.

How would you describe your style?

It took me a few years to perfect it, but I

would say it's "layers of fun". I really enjoy

layering my papers and play with colors

in a clean and organized look. I adore

embellishments and form tape, so I often

pile them on.

HEIDI SONBOUL–––– Q & A WITH ––––

Page 14: The PaperCut Magazine, June 2013 by GCD Studios

What inspired you to make SunKissed and Special Delivery?

When I created SunKissed I wanted it to be

bright and cheerful. I grew up in California

and so I pulled a lot of inspiration from the

beach and sunny days. For Special Delivery

I wanted a good everyday boy collection

that wasn't so themed. Just about every boy

collection out there had rockets and robots.

What would you give as advice to those wanting in this industry?

Work hard, define your style, and Work

on your photography. These items are so

important to know.

Tell us a little about your book.

I have always wanted to do a book and so

when I was given the opportunity I felt so

blessed. I mapped out a plan for it and got

to work. I made over 80 layouts, which took

me 4 months to do. I made it a goal to make

each layout look different, which is hard

when creating so many layouts and when

it can time to do the photo shoot, I had the

best time embracing my chubby girl curves

and posing for the cover. It was a lot of work,

but fun work and I would do it again in a

heart bet.

Tell us a little about your $2.00 classes and website.

I'm so excited about this! When the digital

copy released to the public, I also released

my new site www.heidisonboul.com.

I wanted the site to be a fun place for crafty

people to visit and so I came up with the

concept of $2.00 classes. Classes in the

scrapbook industry can be so expensive and

if you are new, paying that much can scary

you off. These $2.00 classes are PACK with my

3T's, which are Tips, Tricks, and Techniques.

The first class went live on June, 3rd 2013 and

the support was overwhelming.

What is your favorite part about working for GCD Studios?

I LOVE working with the DT gals! They are

all so amazing and being that this is my 4th

year with leading them, it makes me feel so

honored to be part of their creativity. Each

year we bring in new girls and it's always

hard for me to see some go. We become

friends and share our lives together. It really

is such an amazing job! I also have to say

that I LOVE designing our booth. It takes

3-4 months of planning, shopping, painting,

crafting and to get to CHA... I enjoy it all.

If you had to pick one word to describe you, what would it be?

Cheerful. I guess it's because I make it a goal

to be cheerful each and everyday. I love to

cheer others up and I love to cheer people

on!

14 | gcdstudios.com gcdstudios.blogspot.com

Page 15: The PaperCut Magazine, June 2013 by GCD Studios

What is your favorite part about the crafting industry?

It's my "me" time. I love how scrapbooking

makes me feel when I create something

new. I often scrapbook late at night with my

favorite music playing, while I sing along.

There is something so therapeutic about

that time. Oh and I would also like to say...

the friends I've made. Those crafty friends

have gone from online chats to live long

friendships. Right Emilie, Pam, Heidi, Terri, Nina

and Amanda?!

What's next for you?

It might be my dad's influence, but I've

always wanted to have my own business.

I have no idea if this dream will ever come

true, but I would love to have my own

company and even though it would be

soooo much work… it's my dream. I'm so

grateful for GCD Studios allowing me to

make my very own collections and being

with them for 4 years. It's been a really

fun job. Right now I'm working on 2 new

collections and I must say… they will be my

best collections yet. I can't wait to share

them at CHA winter.

Download the baby shoe template here.

"Baby Shower Shoes Party Favor" by RAE BARTHELThere’s nothing cuter than teeny tiny newborn baby gear, and these baby shower party favor

shoes are no exception! I found the shoe template online, and it was very easy to follow. I used

one 6” x 6” sheet of paper for each shoe. After assembling the shoes, I simply added some

adhesive pearls, and then sat back and grinned at how absolutely darling the shoes turned out!

For a baby shower take away, you can fill the shoes with candies or other treats.

"HAPPY FIRST BIRTHDAY" CARD by WIDA MILLERI have decided that if there is a baby card involved, an elephant image MUST be considered.

The Silhouette is a gem of a place for great die-cut images to make your patterned paper pop.

For this first birthday card, I pulled out some papers from the Special Delivery Collection by GCD

Studios and went to work to create a happy little scene. A little stitching on the "grass" gives

some much needed texture. Lately I have had fun decorating the inside of the card as well. I

find punny sentiments funny, don't you?

(Authentique).

"YOUR STORY BEGINS HERE" LAYOUT BY CHRISTINA COLLINSI wanted my daughter's baby book to have a great introductory page. I was so inspired by the

little "books" border strip, and decided a great title would be "Your Story Begins Here". Essentially

- her story would start with her baby book! I cut out a few Polaroid frames using my Silhouette

Cameo, along with an adorable little paper bow. I cut strips of different patterns and lined them

up to frame around the photos. I think this layout is a perfect start to my daughter's "story".

"CONGRATULATIONS" CARD BY NINA YANGI love the sweet patterns and colors in the Pure Bliss collection. I love that it has geometric

patterns in soft colors. I started my card by die cutting a bib for the background; punched out

three 1" circles and three 1-3/4" circles to make a flower. The petals were made by cutting a

slot into the center of a circle and gluing the two ends together.

Triangle Layout by Sara ZengerThey say all trends come full circle over time and believe that is true! When I first started scrapbooking

basic geometric shapes were all the rage and I they are coming back! I just cant get enough of

triangles today! I love to use them to make a banner or to create a background pattern with, as I

did on this layout. Using the Special Delivery collection I cut several squares to 2.5" x 2.5" and they cut

them in half to have 2 triangles. I did this with several papers so I had lots of patterns to choose from.

When I layered them on my paper I put some on with pop-dots to give the layout some dimension.

Topping the layout off with lots of details like paint, twine, and stickers makes it all come together!

One Tough Guy Layout by Audrey YeagerI started by cutting 1" wide strips of papers that were 2 and 3" long. Then I just folded the corner back

on one end of each, and arranged them to create a "negative" diamond shape. I tacked down

each fold of paper with some thread. So a simple rectangle gave me some triangles and diamonds

when folded! I used this pattern to create a large border on the left side of my page. Because there

was a lot going on with my papers, I stuck to white cardstock as my base, and a very neutral mat

and simple embellishments.

Love And Be Loved Card by Christine MeyerMixing and matching patterned papers with bold geometric shapes can create a striking project.

For this card I combined white cardstock with patterned papers in square shapes. Combining

patterned papers is easy to do and eye pleasing when you use patterns that are of a similar size

and make the colors work together. I utilized both negative and positive space and turned them all

on their sides so they look more like diamonds. To add dimension I added some hand stitching and

some epoxy dots.

Ten Layout by Suzanna LeeOne of the many popular scrapbook trends these days is the use of geometric shapes on your page

or card. The geometric vibe of the triangle was difficult to escape when scanning through my paper

pad. I took the patterned paper Guido and pushed this trend with interactive triangles. Fold out

triangles are backed with complementary patterns and further enhanced with the angles of the

banner and chevron. Even the zig zag edge of the red circle pays homage to the trendy triangle.

This Store Rocks Layout by Katrina HuntGeometric shapes are so in right now. There are circles, hexagons, arrows, triangles and more. I

knew this photo of one of my favorite stores would be perfect for this type of theme. I decided that

I wanted to play off the triangles in one of the border strips from the Special Delivery collection. I

started with cutting out the triangles and just popping them up on the left side of my layout. I then

decided that I wanted to add a few more triangles at the top. I did this by layering different sizes

of triangles out of the different pattern papers. I did play with this for a while, to get the look that I

wanted. And I didn't want the "clip" part of the Happy paperclip, so I just removed the clip from it!

MASON JAR DRINKSBY AMANDA COLEMAN

Wedding season is in full gear and no doubt there are

last-minute plans and changes being made. These mason

jar drinks are inspired by a fresh and trendy color palette.

With a few basic crafting and household supplies, brides

and her helpers can quickly put together several mason

jar drinks that are sure to impress wedding guests. Each

jar top is cut from a piece of patterned paper. I used a

regular hole punch to make a hole for the straws. The jar

wrap is made from a strip of pleated brown paper bag

and a cotton twill bow.

YOU ARE HERE CARD BY ALICIA THELINCheck out this splash of color… It's so wonderfully striking! Wouldn't the colors photograph stunningly

with and ivory wedding dress? I'd love to see the men lined-up in navy suits as opposed to black.

My project uses Heidi Sonboul's collection, Special Delivery. As a card maker I often find curious ways

to use products intended for scrapbooking. (i.e. the "YOU ARE HERE" sticker, it points to the heart as

opposed to a literal spot on a map.) Die-cutting a window into the card front allowed for so much

layering creativity. I adore a card with some playful interaction.

SUMMER LOVIN' LAYOUT BY SARA ZENGER

Wedding season is upon us! You are bound to have some

wedding photos in your future to work with. Don't get

stuck with the 'typical' wedding style layout and the usual

simple colors. Be bold and use colors you love! Right now I

am very much into Navy – its the new black – as it pairs so

well with many other colors, especially orange! Here is a

wedding layout with my favorite color combo! I went with a

very clean design with the bold color palette. I was able to

find the perfect paper and embellishments I wanted in the

YOU & ME WEDDING CARD BY RAE BARTHELI designed this card thinking it would be perfect for a bride-to-be to give to her husband-to-be

before their big day, or perhaps even after the ceremony. The color combination of mint and coral

is trendy and when paired with pearls and scallops, the combination is ideal for a wedding card!

The ampersand on the designer paper begged for the addition of the “you” and “me” stickers. I

also decided to continue the design onto the inside of the card. I cut out a heart shape and layered

label stickers and alphabet stickers to complete the design.

10 Reasons WhyLayout by Rochelle Spears

I tend to focus my pages around my children

more than anyone else. So I decided to

dedicate a page to my husband and list 10

reasons why I love him. I wanted the page to

feel soft and tranquil and I found that in the

green and blue colors that I used. The pop of

yellows brought in the freshness and adding

the fussy cut flowers incorporated the love of

creating this layout.

Almost FourLayout by Audrey Yeager

This collection definitely looks boyish at first

glance, but there are a lot of floral prints in it

as well! A simple way to make a more boyish

print look more girly is to turn it into a flower! I

took the blue and white horse paper, cut it

into thin strips, dampened it a bit with some

water, and then twisted it into a flower. Add

glitter to REALLY make it girly!

Another tip is to use a punch shape

that might be considered more girly.

For example, I used a butterfly punch

and the alphabet paper to make little

embellishments for my page.

Beauty HurtsLayout by Grace Tolman

I layered papers, die-cut borders, stickers,

and brads in this page. Here are some tips for

layering embellishments:

Mind the size of your products. If you have

something oversized like a hand cut flower,

you can add something over it, like the small

heart sticker. By paying attention to size and

shapes of your stickers, you can add smaller

items over bigger ones. Adding elements

with foam adhesive also allows you to layer

elements over each other.

Giddy UpLayout by Rochelle Spears

What better way to showcase this photo of my

son riding a horse then when this awesome

horse paper, Calvin’s Race! I love how the

horses stand out on the pretty blue color

paper. Adding the green to this layout really

made the horse paper pop even more. My

final touch was to fussy cut the letters of my

son’s name from the paper, Spencer, and

adding that to the bottom of the photo tying

the layout together.

WE HEART NERDS

36 | gcdstudios.com gcdstudios.blogspot.com

Card by Christine MeyerWho doesn't love some cute glasses? For

this card I fussy cut three different pairs of

glasses and centered them on my card.

I trimmed the words "I" and "Nerds" and

added those in along with a sticker heart

to create my sentiment. Add to it some

googly eyes and you've got a fun and

definitely nerdy little card.

SUPPLIES: GCD Studios Special Delivery Collection.

Card by Rae BarthelNerd Love!! How fun is this paper with the

nerd glasses pattern? The papers in the

Special Delivery collection are so vivid and

playful, ideal for a fun masculine card. I

love the black and cream striped paper

paired with the offset red sentiment strip,

it draws your eye in to the “I (heart) nerds”

journaling tag.

SUPPLIES: GCD Studios Special Delivery Collection.

Other: twine, wood veneer shapes, red chalk ink.
