SHELTER NEEDS CCSPCA EVENTS The News, Tuesday, June 28, 2011 A-3 MAXINE MIDNIGHT MOMMA CAT HENRY-HENRY FELICITY SADIE SUNNY TURK SUZIE CHINA SYLVESTER Urgently in need ... of a loving, forever home! PETE is a fun and friendly, 1-year-old pit mix. He is a good looking guy that is lively and good-natured. Pete’s people had to make the difficult decision to release him for adop- tion because they had to move and could not take him. Please consider giving this nice young dog the second chance he deserves. ANGEL is a sweet, playful, 1-year-old Lab/Pit mix. She is a comical, fun loving girl that is house broken, crate trained, wonderful with kids and great with other dogs. Angel came to the shelter as a stray and waited patiently for her owners to find her, but no one came. As the days passed, we noticed that Angel was gaining a significant amount of weight. Barely more than a pup herself, Angel was pregnant. We placed her in a foster home where she gave birth to, and cared for, her beautiful puppies. Her pups have been adopted and now Angel is waiting again. This time she is waiting for a forever home of her own where she can be the center of a loving family. This friendly, happy go lucky girl deserves a second chance. Please consider changing this young dog’s tough beginning into a happy ending. By Bev Greco CCSPCA Executive Director Before I get into what this article is intended to be about, I have to thank our supporters. On Friday we emailed and post- ed a plea for food, as our food storage closet had only one bag of dog food and two bags of cat food left. By closing yesterday, the closet was completely filled. Our amaz- ing volunteers and supporters donated over 100 bags of food, in addition to other supplies such as blankets and bleach. We also want to thank the Macauley Family. Their sons, Robert, Zach and David, had their birthday parties hosted by the shelter and asked for their gifts to be donations for the ani- mals. Mom and Dad spent the majority of the party unloading and organizing donations to help the staff. Our staff was incredi- bly touched and overwhelmed by the generosity of our supporters. Thank you a million times over! If you would like to receive updates and emails from the CCSPCA, join us on Facebook (Cumberland County SPCA) or visit our website to sign up for our E-Newsletter (www.cumber- landcountyspca.org). Now on to the Junior Volun- teers! Last week we gathered our Junior Volunteers together to plan the summer. The kids are pretty busy throughout the school year, so we were excited to try some new things this sum- mer. The kids had a lot of great ideas, and I can already see that this summer will be a very excit- ing one for the Junior Volunteer program. We will be hosting our first Family Fun Night fundraiser at Friendly’s restaurant (3655 S. Delsea Drive) on Tuesday, July 19, from 5 to 8 p.m. A percentage of all sales will be donated to the shelter. We have lots of plans to make this an exciting event, so please save the date and join us for a great meal and delicious desert. The Junior Volunteers will be hosting a Pool Party on Satur- day, July 23, (same day as our yard sale) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the shelter grounds. This will be a special treat for the SPCA dogs, as they will get to spend time with their favorite Junior Volunteers, have a chance to go swimming in the pools, and enjoy a party atmosphere. Come visit the Pool Party if you are hoping to meet a cool dog to join the family! We are also very excited to develop a plan to showcase our talented Junior Volunteers. We will be having a showcase we are calling “The Arts and the Animals” in August. Our Junior Volunteers will be creating many different works of art to be sold to benefit the animals. We can’t wait to see what they come up with! We are looking to partner with local artists to make this event as successful as possible. If you are an artist who would like to help with this event or donate a piece of art for the event, please contact Jrvolunteers@cumber- landcountyspca.org. To make our Junior Volunteer program as successful as pos- sible, we are seeking “Shelter Parents.” These adults will help to keep the program organized and offer support to the children as they work hard to make a dif- ference for the animals. If you are interested in helping, please contact Jrvolunteers@cumber- landcountyspca.org. We are always amazed by the good work our Junior Volunteers do, and this summer is looking to be even more exceptional. Here’s to great kids, great animals, and a great summer together!
