November 22, 2015 Feast of Christ the King “Jesus answered, ‘My kingdom does not belong to this world.” (John 18:36) How often do we put all our time and energy into building a king-dom here on earth, forgetting that life here is short? The real kingdom is in the next life. Yet, how much time and energy do we invest in working for that eternal kingdom?

You are invited to a concert of piano trio music December 10 at 8pm at Incarnate Word. Violinist Tova Braitberg, Cellist

Marian Drake, and pianist Shen Wen will play trios of Mozart and Clara Schumann as well as Advent music. Please join us

for an evening of beautiful music and reflection.

Flowers at the Altar this week are offered: • In loving memory of the Berendy, Cherer & Reed Familes • In loving memory of John Knauf by Marian Knauf

In Our Midst We are all aware of the tragic news stories in recent weeks con-cerning terrorist activities. We are also aware of the debate go-ing on about limiting or totally stopping immigrants entering the United States from Syria and other countries in the Middle East. What can easily get lost is the situation of those who have fled their homelands and are in refugee camps scattered throughout the Middle East. In response to their plight, we will have a sec-ond collection on next weekend November 28/29. Part of this collection will be sent to the Catholic Near East Welfare Asso-ciation, a Pontifical humanitarian agency working in the Middle East to help Christian refugees, especially in Jordan. Part of the funds will stay here in the Archdiocese as we look to assist ef-forts in the St. Louis are to help the immigrant population here. At Thanksgiving, we are reminded of the blessings the Lord has given us and we give thanks in return. At the Thanksgiving Day Mass (9:00am), the collection is given to the Incarnate Word St. Vincent de Paul Society. As you may know, this group of volun-teers tries to help those in need by providing financial assistance for many different things. They help with rent, medicine, cloth-ing, utility bills, gasoline etc. Basically, they help those have no one else to turn to. As you might expect, this has been another busy year for them and they have seen the number of people coming to them for help increase dramatically. As a result, their resources are extremely low right now. Please be extra gener-ous in the Thanksgiving Day collection. Please help yourself to a copy of the “Little Blue Book” that is on the table in the vestibule. If you can find 6 minutes a day during the 28 days of Advent and the 15 days of the Christmas season to use this book you will be enriched by this simple pray-er method. Last call to order Poinsettias for personal use or to donate to the Church to be used on the altar during the Christmas season in memory of a loved one. Please see the bulletin for more de-tails. Next weekend (November 28/29) Khader & Mary Abu Sada, a Catholic couple from the Holy Land will be visiting our parish to market olive wood hand carved religious articles made by the Christian artisans in the Holy Land. With the hostilities worsening in the Holy Land and due to the lack of Christian pilgrims, many outlets for the olive wood hand carvings have been closed, lead-ing to unemployment to increase up to 75%, forcing many Chris-tians to leave the Holy Land in order to find other ways to market their handiwork. All proceeds of this sale will go directly to the Christian families and the artisans who are working in this type of hand carvings. Please take the opportunity to check out these unique crafts. - Fr. Vowels

Christmas Giving Tree Christmas Giving Tree - The Christmas Giving Tree will soon be up (Thanksgiving weekend) in the Church vestibule, ready to go and loaded with ornaments. This is the 13th year for this wonderful ministry which is supported by the entire parish at Incarnate Word. Please stop by and select an ornament or two to help make Christ-mas brighter for a child at St. Frances Cabrini Academy. There will also be ornaments requesting $25.00 Gift Cards to assist the Wellston Center and Crisis Nursery. These gift cards will help support their ministry in 2016. As in the past, please note that the timeline for shopping and return of gifts is VERY short. In addition, we will also be accepting household items and clothing (all ages). We will not have ornaments on the tree for these. Just place these unwrapped articles under the Giving Tree. These will be distributed to the charities. Please have your items back by DECEMBER 10th. We will use the Knights of Columbus drop box, by their pamphlet display, for the “Drop Box” for gift cards this year. This is located right next to the Christmas Giving Tree and will provide a secure place for the cards. A big “Thank You” to the Knights for allowing us to use this drop box. If you have any questions, please call Sue Bollinger at 314 469-3613 or Barb Dickhut at 314 409-6774.

Knights of Columbus Corner Incarnate Word Council 9981 “In Service to One – In Service to All” Did you know this about the Knights of Colum-bus? The Knights of Columbus web site reports the following: “A new Knights of Columbus-Marist poll finds that Americans embraced Pope Francis as a result of his visit — both in terms of their opinion of him and their connection with him on a host of issues. Two-thirds of Americans (66 percent) saw the pope’s trip as mostly about values. Less than a quarter saw it as mostly political (24 per-cent). (Among practicing Catholics the numbers were even higher (80 percent to 18 percent, respectively). Following the trip, a majority of 55 percent say they are clear about his vision for the Church. (This includes almost 9 in 10 practicing Catholics - 88 percent). By contrast, in April, 43 percent of Americans and 73 per-cent of practicing Catholics said the same. Pope Francis’ Catholic values resonated even on the most controversial of issues, as strong majorities of Americans align with his message and say they agree with Pope Francis that: • We should support religious freedom — 85 percent agree; an addition-al 7 percent are more likely to agree now than prior to the papal visit. (Among practicing Catholics, these numbers are 87 percent and 7 per-cent, respectively.) • We should be more respectful of the earth and the environment — 84 percent agree; an additional 7 percent are more likely to agree now. (Among practicing Catholics, these numbers are 81 percent and 10 percent, respectively.) • We should support life at every stage of development, including for the unborn — 62 percent agree; an additional 6 percent are more likely to hold that view now. (Among practicing Catholics, these numbers are 81 percent and 5 percent, respectively.) • We should allow people to opt out of taking actions that go against their religious beliefs — 57 percent agree; an additional 5 percent are now more likely to agree. (Among those who are practicing Catholics, these numbers are 70 percent and 6 percent, respectively.) • We should view marriage as between one man and one woman — 55 percent agree; an additional 4 percent are now more likely to agree. (Among practicing Catholics, these numbers are 60 percent and 7 per-cent, respectively.) Only on the death penalty did Americans divide. Forty-one percent agree with the pope that we should oppose the death penalty, and an additional 5 percent are more likely to agree now. Forty-four percent disagree, and an additional 4 percent are more likely to disagree now. The numbers were similar for practicing Catholics. Almost six in 10 Americans (58 percent) are more likely to engage in charitable activity as a result of the trip, including more than 8 in 10 practicing Catholics (82 percent).” The link to the entire story can be viewed on our Facebook page (see address below).
