Palm Sunday! April is filled with anticipation and celebration - beginning with Palm Sunday on April 1st - we will continue discussing Jesus' journey to the cross, and will finish up our hand-made musical instruments to be used on Easter Sunday!

Easter Sunday! On Sunday, April 8th, all children are welcome to join in the festivities at both our 9am and 11am Worship Services. Children will participate both in the processional at the beginning of the service, with butterfly banners and streamers, and again at the end of the service to amplify our joyful noise with the instruments we'll make together in Sunday School. Between services there will be an Easter Egg Hunt for pre-K thru 5th graders. Older

kids are needed to help hide the eggs! (We ask each family to bring at least two dozen filled plastic eggs for the hunt! Drop off in the narthex before the 9am service.)

Easter Season! We hope you'll join us for the Easter Celebration, and for the weeks that follow as we continue to sing, learn, and celebrate the resurrection in our Sunday School program. We will also be working on putting together our spring ONE ACT pageant - "Built on a Rock." Hello Marin Lutheran Church! I am Katherine Buck, and I’m so excited to serve as your intern this Spring and Summer! I am currently a student at San Francisco Theological Seminary in San Anselmo, which is a Presbyterian seminary.

I’ve always been motivated by a love of knowledge and a deep need to understand different viewpoints to the common problems of humanity: evil, violence and stewardship of mutual resources. With these in mind I studied International Relations at Boston University, with an emphasis on the Middle East and conflict resolution. I then lived in Istanbul, Turkey for a year, where I connected with a whole new perspective on the value of a deep relationship with God. Upon returning to the Seattle area, I worked in a green energy startup to learn about new creative solutions to our resource problem. This was a fun chapter but a career I decided not to pursue, as I was growing in my Christian faith and wanted to see what God had in store for me next in the church.

I came to seminary two years ago after feeling a strong sense of call while working in the Missions department of my home church, First Presbyterian Church of Bellevue. I’m so glad I ended up at SFTS and in beautiful Marin County. SFTS is part of the Graduate Theological Union, a consortium of seminaries, and I have become an ecumenicist and learned at the tables of many incredible professors, including MLC’s Ted Peters. I’m so glad to be here serving you, and I can’t wait to get to know all of you!

Colored Eggs, Bunnies & Stewardship – Alberta Synod, ELCC

The Easter season is upon us and is filled with colored eggs, bunnies, candy, and all of the other signs that this joyful day brings to mind. Easter is a special time to gather and to celebrate, but as Christians it is also a time to reflect on another sign – the special gift of everlasting life that Jesus has given to each of us this day. As Christian stewards, we are called to be especially mindful of our Lord’s gift, and how after Jesus’ resurrection the disciples were instructed to go and make disciples of all the nations. Each of us has been baptized into this discipleship, and we too must heed Jesus’ words.

Whenever discussions about stewardship arise, they often turn to a narrow focus on only the money aspect of stewardship. Like Easter, there

is much more to stewardship, and we are challenged to see the whole picture about both. If we focus too narrowly on one idea, we may lose track of the real meaning of both stewardship and Easter.

We have been given the responsibility as Christian stewards, to respond to the mission and ministry of the Church. How we choose to manage the gifts we have been given will determine if these objectives will be met.

As we celebrate Christ’s resurrection on Easter Sunday, let the signs of Spring, of bunnies, candy, colored eggs and new life, be reminders of all of the gifts God has entrusted to our care. How are we investing our time and resources in such a way that others will hear and live?

Worship Task Force Update

As you may or may not know, the Council last fall created a Worship Task Force to create a plan

for worship at Marin Lutheran Church. This plan would look forward five years and attempt to

do a couple things: resolve our dilemma

our community inviting more people to worship with the goal of increasing our weekly

attendance to 160 by the end of 2017. The idea for this task force and our goals came out of

Well, our group (Carol Cunliffe, Lauris Halladay, Rod Seeger, Tom Schmidt, Paul Davis, Es

Johnson, Lindsey Theobald, and Pastor Tom) has met twice so far. Prayerfully and carefully we

are moving forward with our tasks. Worship is one of the most important things that we do as

Christians. It is also very complex.

In the next few weeks we are looking to survey the congregation on worship habits, including

why we go to which service. Please keep this task force in your prayers and let us know of any

ideas you might have regarding worship at Marin Lutheran Church.

Spring is the time that MLC joins other faith

communities on the CROP (Communities

Responding to Overcome Poverty) or

Hunger Walk sponsored by Church World

Service. This year, the Marin CROP walk

will be joined by 11 other Bay Area communities to raise awareness and


Over 1 billion people worldwide live in hunger. Each day, almost 16,000 children

die of hunger related causes. 36.2 million Americans face food insecurity each year.

Last year CROP hunger walks raised over 15 million dollars to assist hungry people


The walks are special because they are community based and interfaith. In

years, MLC has been the Lutheran presence on the team.

25% of the money raised in Marin goes locally to-St. Vincent's Dining Room, the


money goes to CWS to assist poverty stricken people around the world with


support, and for vocational training directed toward food security.

This year, our CROP walk will be on Sunday, April 29th at 2:00PM beginning at the

First Presbyterian Church, San Rafael

Shelter Room Renovation 2012

Spring is also the time for our Annual Room

Renovation Project at the Family Emergency

Center in San Rafael. The Social Action Committee

encourages you to mark your calendar for Friday, May 4th and/or Saturday, May 5th.

We will be doing our usual "Miracle Makeover" for this agency that is the only shelter

for homeless families with children in So. Marin. More information to come but just in

case you are involved in spring housecleaning or renewal projects of your own, please

consider the usual items needed for this project –

→ lightly used towel sets

→ lightly used twin bed and double bed sheet sets

→ working desk and floor lamps

→ lightly used blankets

→ small used storage chests

→ lightly used microwave

→ used/usable bunk bed frames

→ used card table or small tables and chairs
