Hello all and welcome to our meeting. We had a great fellowship night last week, and I thank all who attended. It was nice bonding, drinking, and chatting as a club in less formal surroundings. Today however is our regular meeting time, and our speaker is Ms. Percy Benedictos, the executive director of the Philippine Band of Mercy. Ac-cording to the introduction Percy sent me,
PBM WAS FOUNDED IN 1937 THROUGH THE EFFORTS OF THE FOUNDER, DADDY HART AN AMERICAN SOL-DIER ASSIGNED TO THE PHILIPPINES. PBM BEGAN GROWING AS MANILA ROTARIANS JOINED DADDY
HART IN HELPING CHILDREN FOUND IN THE STREETS WITH CLEFT LIP PALATE & FACIAL DEFORMITIES. BY 1947 THEY DECIDED TO INCORPO-RATE PBM INTO A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION WITH THE FIRST PRESI-DENT BEING – ENRIQUE LOLARGA, A MANILA ROTARIAN. OTHER MANILA ROTARIANS ALSO JOINED AS SUSTAINING MEMBERS OF THE FOUNDA-TION. IN THE NEXT 76 YEARS UPTO TO TODAY PBM CONTINUES TO BE A FOUNDATION NOURISHED AND MAINTAINED BY ROTARIANS. OUR PRE-SENT NINE-MAN BOARD HAS 5 ROTARIANS IN THE BOARD. TODAY, PBM IS AN INSTITUTION FOCUSED AND FULLY GEARED TO PROVIDE HOLISTIC CARE TO CHILDREN WITH CLEFT LIP & PALATE.
Their mission matches our district thrust of assisting person’s with disabilities. The PWD dis-trict project by the way was launched last week, and we have been tasked with assisting one beneficiary. I’ve invited the project lead to speak to the club, in line with IPP Bert’s suggestion that project proponents speak on their various efforts. Stay tuned. The district has also asked each club to nominate a member to the DNC. You should have gotten the qualifications through our e-group list, and I would appreciate any suggestions. Lastly, we begin our service. Our Rotary speaker series kicks-off at JRU on September 19 with Ltg. Nelson Aspe speaking, while Sec. John and myself are part of a round-table discussion at the foreign students’ Philippine conference on September 24. Dir. Ernie, Dir. Josh, and myself fly off to visit our sister club in Pudu this weekend, while RC Taipei NW is asking us to finalize our delegation to their anniversary celebration. PP Albert has also requested that we accompany him as we show our MPNAG Kitchen build on September 13. We do have a lot going on as we strive to “LIGHT UP ROTARY.” Do keep in step by checking http://bit.ly/rcmanda for our facebook page, http://bit.ly/rcmcalendar for our calendar, or http://bit.ly/rcmmagfor our Magdalo issues. Cheers!

Back to Basics Greetings to my fellow Rotarians! We are on our tenth meeting of our Club in RY 2014-2015. Today, we are back at our home at EdsaShagrila Hotel after our Fellowship Meeting in nearby Brotzeit Restaurant in the Shangrila Mall. In case you are joining us after a long hiatus, a warm welcome back. We are glad to have you join us today. PP Herman King suggested a few weeks back to discuss some of the things
we learned from Rotary 101. Being the junior Rotarian that I am, I will give way to this very good suggestion from a well–loved upper class man Rotar-ian. Rotary 101 began with a discussion on Club Administration, the cogs and
wheels that keep the Club going. PP TonipiParungao from the Rotary Club of Marikina gave us the essentials of how to keep a Rotary Club running. Some of the important items he focused on is keeping lines of communication with the members. One medium is through our Club Bulletin, in our case, The
Magdalo. I must say that The Magdalo has been a good source of information of the activities within our club and in the district. Being your Club Secretary, I together with the Secretariat, have been tasked to manage each and every issue of The Magdalo for RY 2014-2015. We are open to suggestions on how we can make The Magdalomore valuable to you. Do send us feedback through [email protected]. PP Tonipi also mentioned that another way to communicate with fellow Rotarians is through the Philip-pine Rotary Magazine. He mentioned that they are always in need of good articles and welcome contri-butions from the general membership. On the internet, there is www.rotary.org which is a great source of information about Club Administration as well as other topics about Rotary. In terms of social media, do check the facebook pages of different rotary clubs, including our own. Don’t forget to check and LIKE our new Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/RCMandaluyong. You can keep track of the activities of RC Mandaluyong on this fan page.
Finally, he talked about fellowship, fireside or informal gatherings, and club assemblies as means to elicit feedback from the members. These are all ways to keep the membership strong and vibrant by injecting FUN into the equation. Rumor has it that RCM is in the midst of planning a shorts and sandals fellowship sometime soon. Excitement is in the air and we hope this plan will come to fruition in the next few weeks. CLUB REMINDERS

Greetings, Fellow Rotarians!
If reading emails is part of your daily routine, you would probably have read the different matching grant projects our club is proposing since the beginning of this Rotary year. One such project is the MPNAG culinary laboratory we are currently constructing since the start of this month. Even though the project is being funded by matching grants of our sister clubs abroad, our club would be contributing substantially as well in order to make this project successful. In this regard, I would like to remind everybody to update their financial obligations with our club so that no special assessment would be needed in funding our projects. Of course, any additional contribution from our fellow members are most welcome. You can approach me or our president anytime. In order to increase the awareness among ourselves to settle our accounts, individual statement of accounts will be distributed monthly. Please feel free to contact your humble club treasurer or our club secretariat should you have concerns regarding your statement balances. Being a newbie in our weekly publication, I will not bore you by writing a long article here. Rest assure that starting next week, I will be giving you weekly update of our club finances as well as special announcement on financial matters. It is hoped that it will create an awareness among our members to continue their support with our club not only physically, but financially as well. More power to our club!
