Cornell Appointed direCtor of Business

development

J&J Truck Bodies & Trailers announced the appointment of Jason R. Cornell as Director of Business Development. In this capacity, Jason will be responsible for product analysis, market research, and product defi-nition, design, and

launch. In addition, he will manage direct sales for special programs and provide support to the sales and marketing de-partments.

“Jason brings significant experience in manufacturing and project management to our company. His background, profi-ciency, and education are valuable assets to J&J Truck Bodies & Trailers and we are pleased to welcome him into his new position,” said Michael Riggs, senior vice president of the company.

Cornell has been with J&J Truck Bodies & Trailers for 7 years. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2005. He is also the head coach for Berlin Brothersvalley High School’s wrestling team.

Earlier this year, Bill Riggs, president of J&J Truck Bodies & Trailers,

traveled to the Asia to explore busi-ness opportunities at a large iron ore mine. His first stop was in Beijing where he met with J&J’s manufactur-er’s representative, Mike Long, who had flown in from Vietnam where he currently resides. The next day, the two traveled to Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia, where the first meetings with customers (heavy equipment and truck dealers) began.

The next leg of the journey was a flight from the capital to the small town of Altai. The group landed on a dirt land-ing strip as there are no paved roads in Altai. The final destination, far into the interior of Mongolia, and after a 7-hour trip trip through the desert on unim-

proved roads, was the iron ore mine where the trucks and equipment are needed. Specifically, the mine is interested in J&J heavy-duty dump trailers that will be used to transport iron ore about 70 miles from the mine site to the Chinese border. The mine is also interested in putting mechanic, fuel, lubrication, and tire trucks to work at the site.

The primary purpose of the trip was map-ping the haul road with surveyors’ GPS to determine the grades and road conditions the tractor and trailer would be operating in. Bill and Mike successfully captured this data to finalize the engineered solution.

Somerset Welding & Steel is committed to expanding globally by offering overseas customers customized solutions that meet their needs and requirements.

High Pressure Well Service Truck Update

Presently, J&J is designing a high pres-sure well service truck for one of the

largest oil and gas services companies in the world. Oil and gas well production de-clines over the life of a well from a variety of factors including paraffin, asphaltene sludge, inorganic scale, wettability and other blockages. These sophisticated service trucks are used to maximize oil and gas production. This design features a 2100 gallon, DOT 412 tank, six (6) stain-less steel additive tanks, stainless steel

low pressure manifold, high accuracy digital flow meter, and a triplex pump capable of 12 – 84 GPM at 5,000 PSI. J&J engineering collaborates with our customer stakehold-ers via web conferencing, allowing critical input and design review from multiple loca-tions across the country without the need for travel and project delays.

Pickens Interviewed on CNBC: US Could be Using More Natural GasThe U.S. has more natural gas than any other country but must do more to tap its poten-tial, billionaire investor T. Boone Pickens told CNBC’s “Closing Bell” in April.

“America has all at once found itself the cheapest energy in the world,” Pickens said. There was uncertainty just 10 years ago about whether the U.S. had enough natural gas to be independent, he said. “Today, we have more natural gas than any country in the world,” he said, adding it’s the cheap-est fuel in the world. “We are using it, but we could be using it in a whole lot of other places.”

Transportation is one opportunity for natural gas. Only 200,000 vehicles worldwide used natural gas a decade ago, Pickens said, and now that number is about 20 million. “But the U.S. has been slow to follow,” he said. The trucking and rail industries are starting to use more natural gas because the fuel is so cheap, he said.

Washington must do more to stoke demand for natural gas in the U.S., according to Pick-ens. “Use the cleaner cheaper fuel here—don’t export it and import less oil,” he said.

In response to a bid proposal advertised by the County of Monmouth, New Jersey,

Bristol Donald Company, Mid-Atlantic Truck Centre and J&J Truck Bodies & Trailers worked together to successfully complete a specification package and submit the lowest responsive bid, based on the operational requirements of Monmouth County. Mon-mouth County designs equipment and trucks to meet their severe duty opera-tional requirements to minimize life cycle costs and down time. The ten trucks were designed to be versatile for snow and ice

control operations, paving, dredging projects, and heavy hauling.

Once the bid was awarded, John W. Tobia, the County’s Director of the Department of Public Works and Engineering, played a pivotal role in the fabrication process, keeping in close contact with J&J sales and quality control departments. This resulted in a flawless delivery of trucks and equipment.

The Monmouth County Public Works and Engineering Department is responsible for the maintenance, construction and repairs of

1,000 lane miles of roads, 980 bridges, 270 traffic control devices, 35 building complexes, a landfill, and a ferry termi-nal.The trucks have performed extreme-ly well in carrying out these duties and were deployed during the rebuilding efforts after Hurricane Sandy along the coastal areas.

The County has also recently awarded another bid to J&J for ten single axle trucks with dump bodies, spreaders and associated equipment.

Kenworth introduces the Bendix ® eTrac Air Bag Transfer System for 6x2 suspensions on select models of Kenworth Class 8 trucks. The

tandem drive axle on a 6x2 axle truck has no inter-axle driveline or rear differential. Because of that, it has fewer gears, which results in the truck being several hundred pounds lighter and experiencing improved fuel economy. This system automatically adjusts the vehicle’s airbag pressure transfer system from the non-drive axle to the drive axle when it recognizes wheel slip, providing improved fuel efficiency and on-de-mand traction.

Caterpillar an-nounced at the recent Natu-ral Gas for High Horsepower Ap-plications Sum-mit its intentions to go “all-in” on natural gas and produce even

more natural gas-fueled equipment and engines. CAT will provide natural gas fuel as an option for engines across its many high horsepower lines for mining, earthmoving, and drilling op-erations. Its first expected liquefied natural gas -powered products will include mining trucks.

Freightliner un-veiled the first-ev-er OEM in-cab exercise system last month. The Freightliner In-Cab Training System provides drivers with full body

strength-and-conditioning workouts in the com-fort of their own cabs. Developed in collaboration with Rolling Strong™, the FIT System provides a simple and convenient exercise solution that en-courages physical activity. It features a triple-grip handle, which enables users to interchange three bands to change resistance levels.

Hino Trucks recently displayed their new Class 5 COE model 195 Double Cab. The new double cab option will arrive at Hino dealers in

June of this year and is offered in both a diesel model and diesel-electric hybrid. Designed on a 19,500lb GVW chassis to provide class-lead-ing payload capability, the four-door, six-person double cab is redefining driver comfort with its optional magnetic suspension seat in a cab de-signed to accommodate drivers up to 6’6” tall.

Isuzu Com-mercial Truck of America announced that their N-Series truck was named 2013 Medium Duty Truck of

the Year by Work Truck Magazine. 12 vehicles were included in an online ballot and voted on by professional fleet managers, who were asked to consider which MD truck model best fit their requirements, including application effectiveness, durability, quality, service, and lifecycle costs.

Navistar International showcased its initial production build of the Inter-national ® ProStar ® truck equipped with MaxxForce ® 13 with SCR at the Mid-America

Trucking Show. ProStar with MaxxForce 13 with SCR offers fleets and drivers the efficient power of a big bore engine with lighter weight compo-nents to maximize payload.

Peterbilt Motors Com-pany announced PreSet Plus hub systems as stan-dard equipment on all Peterbilt Class 8 trucks. PreSet Plus hub systems are

designed to improve serviceability and reliability of vehicle wheel ends and minimize service time and requirements. PreSet Plus hub assemblies are designed for both steer and drive axles, for disc and drum brakes, and are available in iron and aluminum for weight-sensitive application.

Volvo Trucks announced late in March that it has partnered with Shell to collaborate and coordinate activ-ities supporting the wider use of

Liquefied Natural gas as a fuel for heavy-duty commercial vehicles. Volvo Trucks announced the development of its proprietary 13-liter LNG engine for North America in mid-2012. The engine’s advanced high pressure diesel ignition technology will provide significant fuel efficiency gains, making it a viable solution for long-haul trucking applications.

Western Star featured their “Tough By Design” lineup at the Mid-America Trucking Show. Their booth this year highlighted their customized

engineering and showcased versatile on-high-way vehicles and vocational models. Models in-cluded Western Star’s 4700SB Day Cab Tractor, its 4900SB with Fuel Efficient Package and new lightweight spec options, a 4900SF Heavy Haul with low roof sleeper, and their 6900XD 40-ton mining truck chassis equipped with a Detroit Series 60 ® Tier III engine.

Trucks Built Your Way

1. The Mitsubishi Fuso 4x4 chassis, which was provided by Bowser GMC, was upftitted with a flat bed dump body. J&J Truck Equipment also installed an Auto Crane hydraulic articu-lating crane at the back of the cab. The most challenging part of this job was overcoming an off-set, three piece frame and providing proper reinforcement for the crane mount and sup-port, but J&J got it done and the end user was delighted with final product.

2. The International chassis was mounted with 20’ flat bed, a sliding sign/light board, and toolboxes. The paint supply truck is being used by a government agency.

3. Just a reminder that J&J Truck Equipment installs about 40 wetline systems a year, so we know how to do them right. The next time you need one, get a quote from J&J first.

DELIVERING POWER AND PERFORMANCEThere is a reason why J&J is one of the few companies that builds push out trailers. It takes a highly skilled engineering team, com-plex robotics, experi-enced welders and lots of know how. Push out trailers, also known as ejector or compaction trailers are primarily used in hauling waste to landfills. The ejec-tor ram pushes all the content quickly and efficiently while main-taining a solid footing in sometimes uneven ter-rain that is often found at these sites.

Two of these J&J steel push outs were sent to Texas where they will be used to haul trash to landfills.

Customer Survey Results(6 month period October 2012 thru March 2013)

J&J is excited to announce that on our most recent survey reporting instrument, the following results were found:

97% of J&J customers were totally satisfied 100% said they would recommend J&J to their colleagues

Inside this issue, you’ll meet a few of these customers!
