We will also have a follow up meeting for our First Impressions Teamas we look at new ways to meet our guests and welcome them into the family. In March, we will have our first Starting Point; a monthly get together with guests to answer their questions, and continue to make them feel at home. And we recently put a new event on the calendar; the Vision 2017 Celebration and Dedication, tentatively scheduled for 29 April 2018. Honestly, I find it amazing that we are drawing to a close of this endeavor! Long before Sandy and I arrived you had prayerfully studied the needs of the church and made plans to meet them. Almost four years ago we began to meet to determine the greatest needs, and three years ago this coming April, we ‘broke ground’ on Vision 2017. Isn’t it amazing that the finish line is now in view? We started with 18 projects, expanded slightly to 21, most of which are already complete. You have worked hard, given generously and I am truly proud of you. During the Vision 2017 Celebration and Dedication we will likely look back over what has been accomplished, celebrate the many blessings God has given, dedicate it all to our heavenly Father and His work, and of course…eat! How great a celebration will it be? My hope is that we will be able to celebrate all the work that has been done, but that we would also be debt free. It is possible! If the remaining pledges come in ($27,465), and others who did not pledge, but have given, continue to give…we can celebrate DEBT FREE! So, may I encourage the entire church family to finish well? Please complete your pledges, catch up if you are a little behind, and give generously to the work of our Lord. If you joined the church after we made our pledges, will you prayerfully consider financially contributing as well? I can almost see the celebration in my mind’s eye and smell the delicious meal! And then the celebration will continue for years to come as we see children running up and down the halls, youth growing in their faith in the Youth Building, our seniors using the bus to travel and do missions, as well as bring more kids to the church! Can you see it too? Its right there in front of us…so let us join together to finish well! Shine! Pastor Cal

There is so much to look forward to in the weeks and months to come! After three years of planning, numerous meetings with engineers, contractors and committees, and hours poured into decision making in regard to colors, furniture and design, the two largest projects for Vision 2017, a renovated Youth Center and renovated Nursery / Preschool Wing are basically done. Here are some glimpses.

Nursery / Preschool Wing

Youth Center

The Youth Center is operational and has been for a few months now. The Nursery / Preschool Wing will be ready for use in a few weeks as we are in the process of getting toys and other items cleaned and moved back in, along with a little more design work completed. An open house and dedication is in the works and will be announced soon. I want to thank the following groups for their hard work on this… the Vision 2017 Upper Room / Youth Team, the Vision 2017 Children’s Wing Team, the Youth Ministry Team, the Nursery Committee and Ward Custom Builders. None of this could be done without the collaborative efforts of a lot of people, who came together bringing their gifts and talents to use for kingdom work. Blessings, Rich

Worship Notes from Scott

Great Are You Lord

The Psalms are jam-packed with the exaltations of God. That's probably why you so often (or will) hear me use verses and passages from that book of the Bible to introduce the songs we sing. Likely, no other book has been the basis or inspiration for so many of the songs we sing as the book of Psalms. One of the most recent songs I have introduced is the song "Great Are You Lord". Here are some of the lyrics of the song.

Verse You give life You are love, You bring light to the darkness You give hope You restore, ev'ry heart that is broken And great are You Lord

Clearly, each of these phrases are saturated with the Word of God and point to Him.

Nehemiah 9:6 - You alone are the Lord. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you.

Romans 5:8 - But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ

died for us.

John 8:12 - “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

I will not delve further into the biblical support of these song lyrics, but clearly it is there. In fact, it is the Chorus of the song that I'd like to talk about briefly.

Chorus It's Your breath in our lungs So we pour out our praise, we pour out our praise It's Your breath in our lungs So we pour out our praise to You only

The first time I heard this song, my mind was immediately taken to our beginnings, when mankind was first created.

Genesis 2:7 - "Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being."

I can't help but think every time I sing that song how true those words are. It was God who created us in our mother's womb and gave us that first breath of life. And from that point on, each breath we take is a gift from God, and should be used to glorify Him. Ps. 145:1-2 - "I will exalt you, my God the King; I will praise your name for ever and ever. Every day I will

praise you and extol your name for ever and ever." I encourage you, when you take that breath right before you sing that first word of the first song in our next service, to think of this, and no matter what you think your singing sounds like to those around you, remember that those words are not for them, but the One who gave you the breath to sing them. MONTHLY DEACONS REPORT Submitted by Kenny Dail

There are a lot of great stories in the Bible. I think of stories such as Daniel in the Lion’s Den, David and Goliath and of course stories about Jesus and the miraculous things he did while on this earth. We learn from Matthew Chapter 17 that Jesus and His disciples had gone to Capernaum. While they were in Capernaum the collectors of the temple tax came to Peter inquiring whether Jesus paid the temple tax or not. This was a two Drachma tax required of every male 20 years of age and older. This tax was equivalent to about 2 days wages. To their question Peter replied, “Yes He does.”

I think Jesus had a wonderful since of humor. Many times in scripture we are told Jesus knew the thoughts of others. When Peter comes into the house Jesus is the first to speak. This becomes a teachable moment for Peter as he learns a little more about who Jesus is. After some discussion Jesus tells Peter “But so that we may not offend them go to the lake and throw out your line. Take the first fish you catch; open its mouth and you will find a four-drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for my tax and yours.”

I can almost see it now. Peter fishing pole in hand going to the lake laughing as he goes , throwing his line in, pulling out a fish, opening the mouth and laughing even harder as he pulls the coin out of the fish’s mouth. This shows just how amazing Jesus is. Without a doubt we serve an all-knowing, all mighty Savior.

Afterwards in Matthew 22 we learn of the account of the Pharisees coming to Jesus to trap him with a question concerning taxes and whether they should pay Caesar’s tax or not. You may remember Jesus response to give to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s. For us taxes are mandatory. We must pay tax when we buy goods, pay tax on our property, have taxes withheld from our paychecks. It is mandatory that we pay them. If it were not mandatory I am sure many people would not pay any tax or would pay very little. But we are to give to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s.

Just as we pay our taxes we are also to bring our tithes and offerings to support God’s work in

the church. Second Corinthians 9:6&7 tells us that each of us should give what we have decided in

our hearts to give and God loves a cheerful giver. May we each seek to give cheerfully to support

the needs of the church and see more people come to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

To: JHBC Membership

On March 1st, 2018 we begin the Third Quarter of the church year at JHBC. I encourage you to go on the church web site and look at the remaining church calendar for this church year and see the activities and events scheduled. It is also the time for the preparation of all committees to begin their plans for the next church year 2018-2019 as well.

Vision 2017 Construction Projects: The construction projects for the youth center and children wing are complete. Thanks to all of our membership for your patience and support during the construction periods with the youth center and the children wing. I would like to extend a special Thank You to the Children Committee, Youth Committee, everyone involved from the church membership and Rich Wood for their leadership in these two Vision 2017 construction projects.

2018 Education Scholarship: The Board of Deacons is pleased to announce that there will be education scholarships available this year. Applications for the Wornom Education Scholarship and Catherine Matthews Music Scholarship may be picked up at the church office during the regular work day hours Monday through Friday. You can also contact the church office and request your application by email.

The JHBC Undergraduate Endowed Scholarship of Campbell University does not require an application submittal but does require an individual to submit their name only for this scholarship to the Scholarship Committee. The Scholarship Committee will submit the list of candidates for this scholarship to Campbell University.

Very important: The deadline to turn in your scholarship application for the Wornom Education and Catherine Matthews Music Scholarships or to inform the church of your intention for the Campbell University scholarship is Monday, April 30, 2018 at 4:00 PM. Any applications submitted and or name submitted after the deadline period will not be considered.

The Board of Deacons would like to express our appreciation and a special Thank You to the following church members that accepted the invitation to be on the 2018 Education Scholarship Committee and they are Sam Carter- Chair, Sandra Bowen, Cindy Jones and Kathy Waters.

2017-2018 Budget Update: The church budget from September 1, 2017 to January 31, 2018 has ended in a positive. The receivables totaled $256,918.95 and our proposed Faith Budget requirement for the same time period was $255,911.26. This results in a positive of $1,007.69. It is our hope that the receivables will continue to be positive each and every month for the remaining of the church year.

Senior Adults Request: I have had several Senior Adults of our church membership to ask if a list of members could be provided to them that they can call on to get rides to Sunday night services, or Wednesday night services and other evening events at the church. If you are able and want to be a part of this ministry for our Senior Adults; please contact the church office and provide your name and phone number. I am also asking the Senior Adults to provide their name and phone number to the church office to be on a list if they require transportation. This is a ministry to our Senior Adults and a need.

We have Goals, we have Dreams, we have Visions, we have Mission Work, we have Positions to be filled and we need to focus on our journey with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Pray every day for our Church, our Staff, and all the members of JHBC to be in Unity for this journey.

In Christ we serve and Blessings to All,

Roy D. Lowe, Deacon Chairman

Pastor Cal, Staff and Church Family, We are so blessed to have such a loving and caring Church. You were there for us during our sickness with calls, prayers, cards, and even being with us during our deepest needs. God bless each one of you and many thanks. In Christian Love, James and Melba Kelly ===================================== Dear Mrs. Lorena, Thank you and your committee for the hos-pitality you showed to our family. The food was excellent and the venue was perfect. Please share our gratitude with your staff, members and your pastor. You all are so kind! God Bless you all, Billy and Diane Edwards ==================================== To JHBC, I would like to start by saying thank you for everything. All of the kind things all of your members did for me. Because of the kindness you all showed me, I’ve turned my life around for the good. I’ve been clean for over 5 months now. I’m still in the program at Recovery Ventures. It’s not easy sometimes but I’m learning to deal with my past. But me saying thank you is not enough. You all saved my life because that day the kindness you all showed me kept me from doing something really stupid. I know there is a God! I’m working on that to. I still don’t know what He has planned for me. I still don’t have much contact with my family but maybe in time. I’m really grateful to have met all of you. Thank You, Tillman Norris

Hello Everyone, It has been a long time since we have sent an update and we are very sorry, although better late than never we want to say HAPPY NEW YEAR and even though the first month of the year is gone we really hope it has been a wonderful beginning for you all! In November we worked out to record three song Christian EP in Albanian. We released the songs online in the beginning of December, We were also invited to release them live on Radio 7 (the only Christian radio station in the region) a few days later. Shpresa was also interviewed for the radio release. Below is the link to the songs if you would like to hear them. We got great feedback on the songs and especially on the translation of the ancient Christmas song “O Come, O Come Emmanuel” in Albanian“Eja, eja Emanuel”. we know this is only the beginning and we give all praise to the Lord that he is making it possible for us to do this kind of ministry.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHX8goyhPy4&list=PLXCfsIbm5rrlxJqMYZWN5_e_NPM9x449U

This month, we were able to release two original songs by two different Christian artists in Kosovo! Both artists wrote the songs themselves and we had the privilege of hosting them and recording with them. One of the songs “Beso ne Mua” - Trust in Me” is a song in the “Worship Music” genre and is about a conversation God is having with us, asking us to trust in Him and when we do, all the other things will be given to us, just like Jesus said, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Matthew 6:33. The other song is a Christian Rap song and it is all about the most well-known Bible verse among Christians, John 3:16. We also love this song because it shares the gospel so plainly in Albanian through music! We believe that God deserves to be worshipped in every language and tongue and we want Him to be worshipped in Albanian too, so that’s our goal - equip people from this nation to share the gospel through art and music and to glorify God through it! As for the coming months, we have two projects we are working towards. The Children’s book that Shpresa wrote and a big songwriting and recording project we are working towards with Heart Sounds International, a group coming from the States to help us with writing native Albanian music. You might remember from our last newsletter that we were aiming to finish the Children’s book by the end of last year, but due to various reasons, we were not able to. However, we are making progress and are in the final stages. We are very excited for this! Heart Sounds International is a ministry started by Operation Mobilization, where professional musicians and ethnomusicologist go to places where there is not enough worship music written in a Native language and they come to train local believers in songwriting and often recording too! We have the privilege of hosting them this coming April here in Kosovo and Albania. Our goal is to encourage people to write more Albanian worship music because we really feel the need for more original songs written by the local people. Lord willing there will be many new songs that will come out of their training! With all this, to wrap up, on a personal note, please keep us in your prayers for our health. We have been sick on an off, and especially Aaron has had to fight a couple colds and flu these past months and now has chicken pox. Being sick on and off has sometimes slowed down our work and so we would really appreciate prayers that we would get back to our normal selves soon again. PRAISE - For the songs we have been able to release these past months. PRAY - For the Children’s book, that we would be able to publish it soon. For more songs to be released in this coming year. For our project in affiliation with Heart Sounds International—that we would have a good group of musicians to work with, and a lot of new worship songs would be written in Albanian. All financial gifts given to Aaron and Shpresa through Operation Mobilization go to support their full-time ministry in Kosovo and abroad. All support is used to pay for living expenses (rent, utilities, food, etc.) ministry/outreach expenses, and health insurance.

ARE YOU A CHRISTIAN ATHLETE?

In February most of the news coverage was about the Winter Olympics held in South Korea. While watching the Olympics and listening to the athletes tell their stories about how much they practice and training they put into their sport, I was reminded about our race to the finish line to reach our goal to see Christ. While we can’t all be Olympic athletes and be on a world stage, we are however a Christian athlete on our own stage of life everyday. You may not think anyone is watching you, but your life is touching someone every day. Your life is on a path that God has designed only for you. Each and every struggle on that path was made to bring you to a closer walk with God. God will give you the strength and endurance that you need to climb that mountain if you ask Him. Just remember that those Olympic athletes didn’t achieve their goals overnight it took them years of training. I bet they had many days of saying “I don’t want to practice today” or “I just don’t feel like doing it today”. We all have good days and bad days. But without the bad days or the valleys, we can’t experience the good days or the mountain tops. Remember the following verses:

Isaiah 41:10 So do not fear, for I am with you, do not be dismayed, for I am your God.

I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.

Mark 12:30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul

and with all your mind and with all your strength.

Philippians 4:13 I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.

Colossians 1:11-12 11being strengthen with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have

great endurance and patience, 12and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light.

Our life lessons and training experience will one day help us be an encouragement to another friend, neighbor or Christian who might be struggling with the same situation. Unlike the Olympic athletes that may reach their goals by receiving either a bronze, silver or gold medal, if we run our race with our trust in the Lord we will receive so much more than medals. We don’t have to finish our race to know if we win, we as Christians already know that we are winners because our Savior, Jesus Christ paid the price for our sins. Our goal and our reward will be eternity with the Lord forever. Get set! Ready! Run! Marva Lee
