CARDIO AND FREE WEIGHT ROOMSIncluded in your membership or daily admission is unlim-ited use of the cardio and free weight rooms. If you areunsure of how to use the equipment in the cardio room afitness orientation is recommended. These classes aretaught by our certified personal trainers and are a greatintroduction to programming the cardio equipment andadjusting the settings of the Nautilus fitness circuit. Seethe Teen & Adult Fitness section for more information.

You must be at least 16 years of age to use the cardio orfree weight rooms. However, 12-15 year olds are permit-ted to use the cardio room when accompanied and super-vised by a parent or guardian. Babies and children (instrollers, baby carries or sitting to the side) are notallowed in the cardio or free weight rooms while a parentor guardian is working out.

NFL PUNT, PASS & KICKAge: 8-15 years as of 12/31/09Saline Parks & Recreation is hosting the 16th annual Punt, Pass andKick competition on Sunday, September 20, 2009 at the Saline HighSchool Football Stadium (1300 Campus Parkway). Boys and girlsmust be born between 1994-2001 making them 8-15 years as ofDecember 31, 2009. There is no fee to participate. Participants are notallowed to wear cleats. Winners of each age division will advance tothe sectional competition held in Saline on October 11. Sectional win-ners may be eligible to compete at the Team Championships held atFord Field as part of a Detroit Lions football game. The winners of theTeam Championships may then be eligible to go to the NationalChampionships. Participants must wear gym shoes. No spikes orcleats. SUMMER KIDS’ CAMPAge: 5-12 yearsIt’s not too late to make this summer one for the memory book with theSaline Kids Camp! This action packed day camp provides the camperswith endless opportunities to gain new skills, make friends and havefun. Campers will explore a new theme each week through excitinggames, crafts, sports, special events and activities. We swim daily andtake a field trip every Wednesday. Campers are placed in groups of nomore than 10 based on their age. Each group is led by a trained sen-ior counselor with assistance from a junior counselor. WINTER KIDS’ CAMPAge: 5-12 yearsDon’t hibernate over winter break! Instead, spend it with the SalineKids Camp. Campers enjoy daily swimming, sports, games, crafts anda field trip on Wednesday. Remember to send a sack lunch, bathingsuit, towel and outdoor clothes – especially if it snows! Camp times arefrom 7 am-6 pm with the exception of Christmas Eve and New Year’sEve. On those days children must be picked up by 3 pm. Drop off andpick up times are flexible and at your convenience. Register for theentire week or for specific days. FITNESS ROOM ORIENTATIONSThis class is highly recommended for new members and those new tousing the fitness rooms. Our personal trainer will show you how tosafely and effectively use the equipment in the Cardiovascular andFree Weight Room. Topics covered will include how to program theCardio equipment, how to adjust the settings of the Nautilus fitness cir-cuit, how to use the Free Weight equipment, and basic guidelines tobeginning a workout routine. BODY CONDITIONINGAge: 12 years and upAfter a warm up, this class concentrates on a complete upper andlower body workout using weights. Since weight size is up to the par-ticipant, this workout is for beginners as well as for more experiencedweight lifters. Proper form will be stressed to minimize undue strain tothe muscles and joints. The one-hour workout ends with abdominalwork and stretching. POOL DESCRIPTIONSLap Pool: 25 yards long and 6 lanes wide with a zero-depth entryramp and a 1-meter diving board. Depth is 3’9” to 12’. Normal temper-ature range is 80-83 degrees.Leisure Pool: 50’ x 25’ recreational pool kept pleasantly warm with azero-depth entry ramp. Depth is 1’9’’ to 4’. Normal temperature rangeis 83-86 degrees.Spa: 7-person hot tub with a normal temperature range of 100-104degrees. Patrons must be at least 14 years old to use the spa.

POOL RULES• All children under 42 inches tall must be accompanied in the waterby an adult at least 16 years of age who is within arm’s reach of thechild at all times.

• Children 9 years and younger must have a person 16 years of ageor older in the Aquatic Center with them at all times. Dropping off chil-dren is strictly prohibited!

• No street shoes on the pool deck.• Soap showers are required before swimming.• Swimsuits must be lined and suitable for public use. Street clothesmay not be worn in the pool.

• No admittance with communicable diseases, open wounds or infec-tions.

• Band-Aids, gum and glass containers are prohibited.• Food and drink are not permitted on deck. Tables and chairs for eat-ing are available in the vending area.

• Only forward dives will be permitted off the diving board.• All flotation devices must be U.S. Coast Guard approved. No inflat-ables.

• Children who are not toilet trained must wear a swim diaper. Regulardisposable diapers are not allowed. Swim diapers are available forsale at the front desk. Please encourage children of all ages to usethe restroom facilities prior to entering the pool.

• Lifeguards are responsible for enforcing these and any additionalrules, either written or unwritten, that are necessary for the safetyand control of the pool area.

3 S’s FOR AQUATIC CENTER CLEANLINESSWe need your help with these three things to keep the Aquatic Centerclean.• SHOES: Everyone must take off their street shoes and store themin a cubby. Everything you track in on the bottom of your shoesends up on our deck or in our pools.• SHOWERS: Everyone entering the water must take a showerbefore entering the water. You must be soaking wet from head totoe.• SWIM DIAPERS: All children who are not potty trained must weara swim diaper. Regular disposable diapers are not allowed.

Did You Know…Lifeguards at this facility are trained to prevent acci-dents and perform first responder care. Direct andconstant supervision of children is the responsibili-ty of the parent or adult guardian.

Did You Know…Young children require a higher level of attentiveness by theirparents when in the pool compared to when they are at home.It may be fine to watch TV, cook dinner, or talk on the phonewhen your child is playing at home. However, while they arein the pool your attention should not be distracted from yourchild for even a few seconds. This is why all children under 42inches tall must be accompanied and directly supervised by aparent who is within arm’s reach at all times while they are inthe water. This is true even if they are just playing on theramp.

POOL SCHEDULEThe pools are generally available any time the building is open. Spacewill be limited during classes. Class participants will have priority ofpool space over other guests. The leisure pool is closed Saturdaymornings from 9 am-12 pm. Check the posted pool schedule for spe-cific class times.

SWIM LESSON INFORMATION• Check in at the front desk before every class• All participants must take a shower before swimming• All non-participants need to remove street shoes beforegoing on the pool deck• Participants should not be in the water before class• Non-members must exit the water promptly after class• Members may stay and swim however please be respectfulof the other classes going on• Siblings/parents may not swim unless they are members orpay the daily fee• The leisure pool is completely closed Saturday morningsfrom 9 am-12 pm

SWIMMING BEFORE OR AFTER CLASSParticipants should not be in the water before swimming classes. If youare interested in using the pool after your scheduled swim class:Members must check in at the front desk. Non-Members must pay thedaily fee. Open swim is not included with your swim class.

During classes open/lap swimmers will have limited space, as classeswill get priority of pool space. Please see the pool schedule on page24 or in the flyer rack for more information. The spa is always open forthose ages 14 and up.

PARENT & INFANT SWIMMINGAge: 6-18 monthsThe purpose of this program is to develop in infants a beginning com-fort level in and around the water. This course does not teach childrento be accomplished swimmers or to survive alone in the water.Instructors will work with each parent and child pair in developing wateradjustment and basic safety skills through games and water play.Infants must wear swim diapers. One child per parent/adult please.Both parents are welcome to attend.

PARENT & TODDLER SWIMMINGAge: 19 months-2 yearsThe purpose of this program is to develop in toddlers a high comfortlevel in and around the water and a readiness to swim. This coursedoes not teach children to be accomplished swimmers or to survivealone in the water. Instructors will work with each parent and child pairin developing basic safety and swimming readiness skills. Childrenwho are not potty trained must wear a swim diaper. YOUNG SWIMMER OR PARENT & PRESCHOOLER?Many parents want to know, “Is my child ready for Young Swimmer les-sons or should I register for the Parent & Preschooler class?”

If your child meets the following criteria you should probably registerfor a Young Swimmer class:• Is at least 4 years old• Can climb out of the pool and sit on the side without help• Will attempt to do skills with an instructor they do not know• Can take turns• Will follow directions• Will sit on the side of the pool and not run away• Has a positive attitude about swimming lessons

If your child falls under most of the following criteria you should prob-ably register for the Parent & Preschooler class even if your child isvery comfortable in the water• Is not yet 4 years old• Has had limited experience in and around the water or has a fearof the water

• Has never taken a class on his or her own before• Is not ready to be without a parent• You would feel more comfortable or enjoy participating with yourchild

• Does not meet the above requirements for the Young Swimmerclasses

PARENT & PRESCHOOLER SWIMMINGAge: 3-5 yearsThis class is an ideal bridge between our Parent & Child and YoungSwimmer programs. This class is highly recommended for childrenbefore they take a class without their parent for the first time. The instruc-tor will work with each parent and child pair at the child’s level to teachbasic water safety, swimming readiness activities and basic swimmingskills. Prerequisites: 500 yards freestyle (20 lengths) and knowledgeof all strokes. This intense class will focus on endurance sets, sprintsets, stroke work and overall competitive swimming skills. LOW STRESSWATER AEROBICSAge: 12 years and upIncreased mobility, ease of arthritis pain, improved strength andendurance are among the benefits of water exercise. This class isspecifically designed for the older exerciser or any person seeking aneasy-to-take mix of exercise and aerobics. This class takes place inthe leisure pool in 3-4 feet of water. The normal water temperature is83-86 degrees.

TEEN/ADULT BEGINNING SWIMMINGAge: 14 years and upThis program is geared toward individuals with little or no swimmingexperience but who have the desire to learn. The skills introduced inthese classes will depend on the expressed needs of the participants.Prerequisites: None. New Skills Introduced: Floating, kicking, propulsiontechniques, proper breathing, and beginning freestyle & backstroke.

FITNESS SWIMMINGAge: 16 years and upLooking for the motivation to get in the pool? Signing up for a class willhelp you commit to coming every week. This class is perfect for adultswho can swim but want to work with an instructor to improve theirstroke techniques and endurance. The instructor will base the class onthe expressed needs of the class participants. A variety of trainingequipment will be used. Register for both Wednesday and Friday andreceive a 20% discount off the regular 2 day per week price.

AQUATIC PLAY GROUPAge: Up to 5 yearsThis is a great opportunity for parents in the community to meet othersand have their children play together. We will provide fun toys toenhance the water experience. Parents must join their children in thewater and remain with them at all times. This program does not pro-vide childcare or swim instruction. Members, adults and children under6 months are free.

TRIATHLON PREPARATIONAge: 16 years and upIs your swimming technique and endurance what’s lacking in yourtriathlon training? In this class we will perfect your swimming techniqueand help build your endurance for whatever length of swim you areworking towards. Let us know what you need and we can help you!This is a swim class only. We will not be working on running or biking.Register for both Wednesday and Friday and receive a 20% discountoff the regular 2 day per week price.

SNORKELINGAge: 6 years and upThis is a fun course in snorkeling techniques and safety that gets youready to explore the wonders of the underwater world. Whether you arean experienced snorkeler looking for fun and a few tips, or a first timer,this course will provide guidance and secrets to success in the water.The class is taught by Huron Scuba’s expert snorkeling and skin divinginstructors and includes interactive classroom discussions and pooltraining with water games. Upon completion of the course you will beready for snorkeling with added confidence and safety anywhere in theworld. The Saline Area Senior Center is located at 7190 N. Maple Road, at thenorthwest end of the Saline Middle School, and shares a wing with the busgarage. To reach the center you must enter off of Saline-Ann Arbor Road.The front entrance is adjacent to the tennis courts with a circular drive fordrop offs. There will be no refunds on memberships except for relocations ormedical reasons. Written documentation must be submitted to theParks & Recreation Director in advance. A $25 administration fee willbe deducted from the refund.There are no refunds on corporate mem-berships.

MEMBERSHIP FREEZE: Members may freeze their membership for3-6 months per 12-month period due to temporary relocation or formedical reasons. A pass freeze form must be submitted to the Parks& Recreation Director in advance. A $10 processing fee is due at thetime of the request.

SWIM LESSON REFUNDSPrior to the second class you may transfer or cancel a class subject tonormal cancellation fees. After the second class there will be norefunds or transfers on swimming lessons regardless of attendanceunless there is a documented medical excuse in which case you willbe removed from the remainder of the session. Refunds will be prorat-ed and subject to our normal cancellation fees. There are no makeupclasses unless the Rec Center has to cancel a class.

KIDS CAMP & FUN DAY REFUNDSRefund requests for Kids Camp and Fun Day registrations must besubmitted prior to the start of the week of camp. (i.e. Before 7 am onMonday) Once the program begins, no refunds will be issued.Administrative fees will apply.

CLASS CANCELLATIONSA minimum enrollment is required to begin or continue activities. TheParks and Recreation Department reserves the right to cancel anyactivity based on insufficient enrollment or other conditions beyond ourcontrol. Every effort will be made to properly notify registrants of pro-gram cancellations.

REFUND POLICYWhen applying for a refund or credit on account after the start date ofa class or program, the refund will be prorated regardless of atten-dance.
