PASTORAL LEADER’S NOTES Dear Parishioners,

My deepest thanks to all of you who helped to make our Christmas Masses such wonderful celebrations of prayer and praise for all who came to be with us! There are hundreds of things that would not happen without my staff and the many volunteers

who give tirelessly of their time and talent. From

the environment and hospitality to the music and ritual, people were once again drawn into the mystery of Jesus’ birth thanks to your generous spirit and commitment to our parish.

Let’s continue to love, forgive and reach out to those in need, believing that by doing this others will know that God is truly with us—now and always!

This weekend we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Family. We also honor the family of the Church, the family of humankind and our own family. We are all one family of God.

Today’s feast reminds us that being a family is a journey of changes and challenges and that it is only love that enables us to negotiate and survive those changes and to confront and conquer those challenges.

The Holy Family is a model for all of us as we struggle together to adapt and change and to deal with the many tensions and crises that threaten the stability, peace, and unity that are the joys of being a part of the family of God.

Jesus, Mary and Joseph, pray for us.

Pray this prayer when you gather with your family this weekend:

A PRAYER FOR FAMILIES

All-Loving God, we thank you for all of your good gifts, especially the gift of family.

For parents and grandparents who nurture our faith and lift us up in difficult times. We thank you, God.

For brothers and sisters who laugh and listen and celebrate with us in joyful times, we thank you, God.

For holidays and holy days when we join together around the table and remember the bond that unites us, we thank you, God.

For all those who love us and care for us and welcome us home again and again, we thank you, God.

For the gift of eternal life and the promise that we will one day join all of the beloved who have gone before us, we thank you, God.

With the guidance of the Holy Family, may we remain a strong and vibrant family of faith, now and forever. Amen.
