TRANSCRIPT
Ephesians 2:8-10 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9Not of works, lest any man should boast. 10For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

It has been said that time heals all wounds. The truth is that time does not heal anything. It merely passes. it is what we do during the passing of time that helps or hinders the healing process. —Jay Marshall

Minister Darreyon Johnson is currently a Junior at Huffman High School, Birmingham, AL. Having been baptized at an early age and spiritually nourished at Rushing Spring Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of the late Rev. James E. Wright, and at present, Rev. Dr. Victor S. Lewis, Sr. He later accepted the call of God into the Gospel Ministry and was licensed on August 27, 2017. Darreyon is an active member of the Huffman High School Band in which he is the Drum Major. Darreyon currently is a Musician at Rushing Spring Baptist Church. He is an active participant for several years with the “I Cared Enough” Christian Ministry which serves several thousand individuals in need in the Jefferson Coun-ty Community and participates in the K.I.D.S. Christian Music Summer Music Camps under the leadership of Dr. Daniel and Gwendolyn Cason. Darreyon serves on the Birmingham City Schools Superinten-dent’s Student Advisory Council. He has also had numerous “Town Hall Meetings” with Former Birmingham City Councilor Lashunda Scales. Darreyon has also completed the Alabama Law Enforcement Explorer Academy in June 2017. He presently works as an ap-prentice with the Smith & Gaston Funeral Services and aspires to be a Mortician. Darreyon is a leader at heart, as Almighty God in His sovereignty has placed the call on his life in Ministry to preach the Gospel of Christ Jesus.
Kenneth S. Frierson is an energetic and innovative
leader who has made great contributions to the field of education as a student, community activist, program manager and higher education administrator. He is a speaker and teacher. Over the past decade, Frierson has proven to be a devoted, servant lead-er and a rising star in the field of education. His expertise has centered primarily on retention initiatives, including first-year programs, students in transition, diversity and
inclusion, access programs for underserved students and males of color. In 2009, Frierson earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in English, with a minor in Religion, from Lane College; he graduated summa cum laude after three years of matriculation and was the college’s second recipient of the Mellon-Mays Undergraduate Fellowship, affording him an opportunity to study abroad at the University of Cape Town in South Africa. He earned a Master’s degree from Eastern Michigan University. Frierson is a proud native of Flint, Michigan. He has spent most of his career at institutions in the Southeast region of the United States, but he has always remained connected to his hometow. He led a water drive to support Flint residents at the start of their water crisis, while employed in Tennessee. Frierson recently returned to Flint and has worked as an educational consultant with the International Academy of Flint, where he continues to pursue his purpose. Frierson is a born-again Christian and lover of Jesus Christ. He credits his achievements to God’s plan for his life, which is, according to Frierson, “better than any plan he could create for himself”.

Beloved,
We are seeking to not only repair all of the roofing leaks, but also to correct the brick and mortar which is allowing water inside. Having received the plans and projected costs to re-pair brickwork and to remove and replace the roofs over our sanctuary, prayer tower, chapel and administrative wing. We spoke with our current lender, Cadence Bank, last week to hear an update on our project. Our preferred builder and banker are still attempting to work through bonding and in-demnity concerns for our project. We are still called to pray and trust that these items will be satisfied soon. Pray for the same, as we march forward to God’s glory. — Pastor

The Deacon A. C. Givner Humanitarian Service Award
The Deacons wish to honor the memory of the late Deacon A. C. Givner who was a member of the New Pilgrim Baptist Church for more than 59 years. He was a humanitari-an who spent his life helping to meet the economic, social and spiritual needs of others. He gave of himself unselfishly and exem-plified the virtues of one who was truly concerned about the well being of God’s children who congregated at the lower rung of the socio-economic ladder of society. He served diligently as a man of distinction, a deacon, a humanitarian and an ambassador for Christ everyday of his life. It was not unusual to find him out in the community in fellowship with the less fortunate identifying their needs and seeking to address some of those needs. This award will be made on the Deacons/Trustees/Deaconesses annual day (the third Sunday in August during the 11:00a.m. service.)
The Deacons are soliciting the help of the congregation in identifying a member of this church who by his/her service exemplifies the character traits of Deacon A. C. Givner to receive special recognition for Humanitarian Service. The honoree will receive a plaque expressing appreciation for service and the person’s name will also be displayed on a second plaque now displayed in the New Pilgrim Pavilion. The plaque posted in the new facility contains spaces for ten names (one to be placed each year and on year eleven, the first name will rotate off).
The name of the nominee should be included on a nomination form which is available on the table in the foyer and forwarded to either of the following: Deacon William A. Armstead, Deacon Charles Cham-bers, Deacon Harvey Henley or Deacon Charles Voltz.
Nominations must be received no later than July 28, 2019
