The Greenburgh Central Syllabus

We are a Professional Learning Community!

Most of the district’s PLC teacher leaders have attended the mandatory three-day PLC Institute. Our teacher leaders experienced three intense days of “brain sweat” and collaboration. Since returning to the district, teacher leaders and their principal have laid the foundation to build a strong collaborative community within their own school. On February 6th, we will meet with PLC Teacher Leaders and principals to review their invaluable work thusfar and plan for future PLC meetings within the school setting.

The PLC goals for February are as follows:

• Data sharing and instructional program evaluation

• Create SMART goals • Identify Essential Learnings (Common Core State Standards and District

Curriculum)

• Develop Common Assessments

• Continue Professional Book Club Getting Started: Reculturing Schools to Become Professional Learning Communities

PLCs take time and sustained effort. Although there are immeasurable ways to enhance them, a PLC has distinguishing characteristics:

• Empowers grade level teams to make decisions that affect their classes

• Provides time for PLC to meet • Keeps discussions focused on student achievement

• Allows teachers to listen to one another and share ideas

• Assures common curricula standards for all students

• Allows teachers to watch an established team practice PLC strategies during meetings

• Creates a safe environment to admit not knowing all the answers
