Page 4: The following tips are ways you can help protect your ... · The following tips are ways you can help protect your personal and real property. Keep your residence and vehicles locked

1. Turn your alarm system on, even if you’re leaving for a short period of time. Many homes that are burglarized have alarms that were not turned on.

2. Posting company signs narrows it down for the perp to determine what kind of system you have and how they can dismantle it. Get a Generic sign.

3. Use clever ways and places to hide your prized possessions, better yet keep them in a safety deposit box if they are of great sentimental or monetary value. Underwear drawers and mattresses are the first place criminals look!

4. Don’t get rid of your big dogs but make sure you get a little yapper that will make a lot of noise to deter and/or lets you know someone’s there

5. Trim your bushes!! Don’t provide criminals with cover or concealment so they can climb through your windows without being seen.

6. Leaving lights on all the time doesn’t do much as a deterrent but rather illuminates the area and helps criminals to see what they’re doing.

7. Don’t STOP your mail and newspaper, have a trusted neighbor pick them up for you. The more activity criminals see the less likely your house is a target.

Construction on the new roundabout will begin in November and a section of Hwy 58 (Emerald Dr) will be

closed between Loon Drive and Islander Drive during the construction. The department is and will continue to

coordinate and work closely with the project manager and Sunland Construction to minimize any traffic and

safety concerns while providing a safe detour route for everyone. The detour will route people around the

construction using Reed Drive and is estimated to last until sometime in early March. We ask that you please

use caution during this time and be especially mindful of pedestrians, golf carts and bicycles that will be

sharing the detour with the motoring public. We have designed a separate detour route for large trucks in order

to make traffic flow as smooth as possible, which will be down Crew Drive. Please pay attention to any new

message boards or signals that may be present as part of the detour and follow the instructions provided.

For questions/concerns about the detour, please feel free to contact Police Chief Tony Reese at 252-354-2021.
