They bring new talent, wonderful students and above all they complement our current family. Have you taken the time to get to know a new family? My challenge for you is to make it a point to get acquainted with a new family. Ask your child about someone new in their class then make it a point to meet and welcome that family. So here’s my Bible promise for you this week. Announcements | Home & School News | Links to Prior Editions | ClassifiedsFLU PREVENTIONFlu season has started early this year and with swine flu being such a prominent news story do you ever wonder whatFLEC is doing to prevent the flu? Be assured that FLEC Administration and staff takes flu prevention very serious. Inconsult with several medical experts, FLEC Administration has adopted the following practices:

Posters at every sink to show and encourage good hand washing techniques. (Make hand washing fun andeffective, sing “Happy Birthday” twice to encourage children to wash for the recommended 20 seconds)Hand sanitizer placed in every classroom and many other convenient places around our school. (CDC recommendsa minimum of 60% Ethyl Alcohol in hand sanitizer, FLEC uses hand sanitizer with a 63% Ethyl Alcohol base.)Classrooms are thoroughly cleaned every day. If a student shows signs of the flu that classroom receives a deeper cleaning with anindustrial sanitizer that includes every desk, chair, keyboard lunchbox storage area and the nearby bathrooms and drinking fountains.Frequent cleaning, through-out the day our doors, drinking fountains, sinks phones for student use, are wiped down with disinfectant.Flu Shots are encouraged.

Education, FLEC and Centra Care had Dr. Scott Brady conduct an informational meeting for parents and the community. Last week ourteachers and staff attend a special in-service on preventing colds and flu. This in-service was conducted by Lucy Fincher, RN, School Nursefor Forest Lake Academy.

Flu Shots are encouraged. We have arranged with Centra Care to offer flu shots for our staff, students and families. The flu shots will be givenon October 12, from at FLEC. We are happy to offer these shots at a reduced price of $18 per person. Pre-registration is highly recommendedas this will secure your time slot at the event and will expedite the flow of traffic. All payments will be collected at time of service, theaccepted forms of payment are cash, personal check (made payable to: Florida Hospital Centra Care), MasterCard, Visa, Discover, andAmerican Express.

Pre-Register online at http://centracare.org/Home/PreRegistrationFluShots/tabid/15815/Default.aspxYour school’s pre-registration code is: flec

Or for your convenience phone registration is also available by calling 407-200-CARE, option 2; Monday through Friday 8 am to 5 pm. If youexperience technical difficulties while registering online you may also call 407-200-CARE, option 2 for assistance.

Any minor MUST have a completed consent form if they are not accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. For consent form please go to thelink. For more information from the CDC about 'what you need to know about the flu shot' click here.

CELL PHONE FINES

The FLEC Handbook states: “Cell phones must be powered off during school hours: 7:50 a.m. – 3:15 p.m. Monday – Thursday, and 7:50 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. on Fridays. They must not be visible during class, in the halls, or anywhere on campus duringschool hours.”

Starting October 1, 2009, there will be a fine for any cell phone visible during the school day. Students can use school phoneswith teacher’s permission and parents may leave messages with the front office if they need to reach their student.

MAGAZINE FUNDRAISER

Our biggest campaign of the year started this week! This year we encourage you to use the QSP website to fill out your subscriptions. Usingthe QSP website is easy, processes your order a lot faster, and is a great tool for family and friends who live far away. Just tell everyone tolog on to www.QSP.com and enter FLEC’s account #425006163 when ordering their magazines.

DISMISSAL

Remember school is out at 3:15 pm. Please note that it is disruptive to learning when parents come to the classroomdoor at 2:50 or 3:00 to get their child. Please be patient and wait till the class is dismissed, you can meet your child asthe class leaves the classroom. Thank you for understanding and helping the teachers utilize those last minutes of theday.

Choose a Lane - Please remember to be extremely careful and patient when driving on campus. As you turn into the

school drive please use the right lane if you are picking up from behind the school (5th through 8th grader riders) and

the left lane if you are picking up children in front of the school (Pre-K through 4th grade and multi-grade riders).Remember to be considerate; yield to your neighbor and practice patience. Safety is our number one concern.

Rain Dismissal – We continue to tweak our rain dismissal procedure. Our goal is to safely complete dismissal in 30 minutes or less from whenthe dismissal bell rings. Be assured that your child will not be sent to Aftercare as long as there are still cars in line to pick-up.
