Egyptian Foreign Policy Historically 1. Egypt geographically has what

Gamal Hemdan calls the brilliance of place and time, it lies in the center of the old World:Africa-Asia- Europe

2. This led to either the strength of the country or that the country becomes a target ,and that all the time depended on the existence of a centralized strong government along the valley of the Nile.

The Mohamed Aly generations Mohamed Aly came to power on the 19th

Century and he had a huge project of development and expansion of the Egyptian role regionally and Internationally but his project collapsed without denying the achievment of certain successes .

Then came Ismail and he tried to recharge the project of Mohamed Aly Until he failed again and came Tawfik who gave the instructions to build the Suez canal and due to some implications Egypt was occupied by the British.

As a result of the occupation new generations of national leaders who were committed to the struggle against the occupation.

Abdel Nasser

He was the leader of the revolution of 23/7/1952 he was committed of ending the occupation of the British (egypt got independence officially in 1922).

He targeted rebuilding the country so he wanted to build The High Dam of Aswan the US withdrawed its support to the project then he Nationalized The Suez Canal.

The Suez war was like the fire in the woods in the region the Egyptian role was expanded into :

1. Supporter for countries who were trying to get independence.

2. Confrontation with Israel.3. Leading the Arab, Muslim and Third World. Then it was the war of 1967, then the question was to

return back our occupied lands.

Anwar Al Sadat

He faced the challenge of liberating the occupied land and there was an agreement between the US and USSR on the stabilization the Middle East situation .

He Surprised the World by 6th of October war 1973 .

But the land didn’t return so what is the solution?

1977 historical visit to Israel . Peace agreement with Israel 1979. Freezing of diplomatic relations with Arab

countries.

President Mubarak

He had a target of restoring the relations with the Arab World.

He faced the challenge of the economy 4wars in less than 35 years .

Extremism. Working on the path of peace. Attracting investments. Free Market Economy .

So what are the goals of Egyptian Foreign Policy Stability and peace in the Middle

East. Economic growth. Searching for new markets . Expanding the network of

International relations. Attracting Investment. Enhancing trade .
