Maintaining good skin condition is vital to protecting the health of both staff and patients. But, developing good hand hygiene habits and achieving compliance with proper standards is not always an easy accomplishment.

Potential obstacles include:

• Awareness of the critical risk points • Location and convenience of hand hygiene products

• Time available for hand hygiene • Providing products that people like to use

Healthcare workers cleaning their hands many times a day can lead to dry, sore or chapped skin if not properly taken care of. This not only increases the risk of microbial contamination, but can also reduce the use of hand hygiene products.

We encourage a 3-step hand hygiene and skin care program to maintain proper skin health and increase compliance:

Increase hand hygiene compliance with cost effective solutions that respect the environment.

At DebMed® we support and recommend following the 4 Moments of Hand Hygiene adapted by Public Health Ontario from the World Health Organization’s 5 Moments for Hand Hygiene.

Cleanse: Cleansing products that are gentle to the hands. Washing hands with appropriate products is the best way to remove potentially harmful pathogens from the skin.

Sanitize: Broad spectrum alcohol foaming hand sanitizers to kill pathogens on the skin and leave a smooth after-feel to encourage frequent use.

Restore: Conditioning creams that restore moisture back into the skin to keep it supple and hydrated.

All hand wash cartridges fit into any of our manual Deb dispensers, allowing for an open-format choice of product regardless of which dispenser you are using. Each category of dispenser (general purpose, antimicrobial, hair and body, sanitizer) are colour coded to facilitate ease of use refill.

Why is Microsan Optidose Foaming Handrub the best choice for patient safety?

The World Health Organization’s best practice hand hygiene guidelines recommend using enough hand sanitizer to fully cover the hands and achieve a 20-30 second wet time. With just one push of the dispenser, Optidose delivers the proper dosage to achieve best practice and help staff comply with WHO guidelines for patient safety. Unlike gel sanitizers, Microsan does not contain gelling agents avoiding a sticky feel after use and providing a higher level of hand hygiene.

How to Restore Dry Skin?

People with dry and damaged skin tend to avoid hand washing/sanitizing, increasing the risk of harbouring pathogens on the skin. Restore creams improve skin strength by moisturizing, nourishing and conditioning the skin.

Our dispensing systems are manufactured in house, have proven reliability, superior chemical resistance and are guaranteed for life. We use transparent dispenser covers allowing dispenser contents to be visually monitored without having to open the dispenser and prevents the risk of empty dispensers.
