Conscience Continued from the Catechism of the Catholic Church

It is crucial to form a correct moral conscience if one is to be justified according to the divine rules be-longing to all of creation.

1783 – Conscience must be informed and moral judgment enlightened. A well-formed conscience is upright and truthful. It formulates its judgments according to reason, in conformity with the true good willed by the wisdom of the Creator. The ed-ucation of conscience is indispensable for human beings who are subjected to negative influences and tempted by sin to prefer their own judgment and to reject authoritative teachings.

1784 – The education of the conscience is a lifelong task. From the earliest years, it awakens the child to the knowledge and practice of the interior law recognized by conscience. Prudent education teaches virtue; it prevents or cures fear, selfishness and pride, resentment arising from guilt, and guar-antees freedom and engenders peace of heart.

1785 – In the formation of conscience the Word of God is the light for our path, we must assimilate it in faith and prayer and put it into practice. We must also examine our conscience before the Lord’s Cross. We are assisted by the Gifts of the Holy Spirit, aided by the witness or advice of others and guided by the authoritative teaching of the Church.

1786 – Faced with a moral choice, conscience can make either a right judgment in accordance with reason and the divine law or, on the contrary, an erroneous judgment that departs from them.

1787 – Man is sometimes confronted by situations that make moral judgments less assured and deci-sion difficult. But he must always seriously seek what is right and good and discern the will of God expressed in the divine law.

1788 – To this purpose, man strives to interpret the data of experience and the signs of the times assist-ed by the virtue of prudence, by the advice of com-petent people, and by the help of the Holy Spirit and his gifts.

1789 – Some rules apply in every case: One may never do evil so that good may result

from it; The Golden Rule: “Whatever you wish that men

would do to you, do so to them.”

Charity always proceeds by way of respect for one’s neighbor and his conscience: “Thus sin-ning against your brethren and wounding their conscience … you sin against Christ.” Therefore “… it is right not to … do anything that makes your brother stumble.”

1790 – A human being must always obey the cer-tain judgment of his conscience. If he were deliber-ately to act against it, he would condemn himself. Yet it can happen that moral conscience remains in ignorance and makes erroneous judgments about acts to be performed or already committed.

There is more to come!

Morning Meditation, 23 March 2015

Hello St. Mary’s Friends:

You are invited to come and join our Faith and Fellow-ship groups here at St. Mary’s. We have meetings on Monday afternoon at 12:00, Tuesday mornings after daily mass and on Sunday afternoon at 1:00. We meet in the small meeting room of the PAC

This Faith and Fellowship groups are a follow up to the parish wide "God Is" retreat that was held in Febru-ary (although you did not have to have attended the retreat to join our group). We spend one hour praying, reading and discussing the upcoming Sunday’s gospel reading, as well as, sharing how God is acting in our lives. Thus far, it has been enlightening and rewarding.

I hope you will prayerfully consider joining us any group that you are available. There is no commitment to this group and it is designed to be open to all, but with no required attendance necessary. What is com-munitize, you may ask? Come join us and find out!!

May God Bless you today and everyday!

Deac’s Corner DANGER!...

SOFT SHOULDERS AHEAD…

Y’know, I still remember my mom telling me, that the road to paradise in Heaven fer-ever, is a real narrow path, and if yer not careful, it’s really easy to slip off that path and wind up stuck forever at the bottom of that slippery slope. Sure, we have good intentions and good lovin’, and a whole retinue of positive role models in our lives, but we also this thing called Free Will too. And in that Free Will, we make our own choices that either bounce us back to the center of that narrow pathway to Heav-en, or derail us quicker than Casey Jones’ “Old 99” train wreck. Y’see, God intended that that Path to Eternal Salva-tion was straight and the fulfillment of that inten-tion was, fer us was- so simple! All Adam and Eve had to do was stay on the path – just as it is ex-pected of us – and nothin’ but All Good, would, be ours forever. But with that first fall, came a whole bunch of temptations, that pull and tug to leave that Path and strike out on our own! – How appropriate is that? So, when things get dicey, and the sky blackens and sun is replaced with bleakness, we tend to fall back on our gifts of knowin’ what’s best, and put God on a high shelf, while we come up with the answer. And we all know how that! usually ends. But, if we’re suitably chastised in our failures, we turn to Him who had the answer all along. Y’see, I believe that when that path was placed before each of us, God also planted on both sides of that narrow pathway…”plants of Grace” so that we could grab onto somethin’ that’d keep us from going off the deep end, so to speak. And when we can’t stop what is pulling us down, we trust in Him and He provides the hope to cling to, to keep us from that fall…away from Grace. See, All we gotta do is trust, and surrender and know…in our very souls, He will never, ever abandon us. Ever.

Praying as a Family Praying as a family is a wonderful, rewarding

activity. Finding the time and opportunity, however, is not always so easy

Committing to gathering regularly, if not daily, for a shared meal is a great way to strengthen

your family and to learn how to pray together. We might always say a traditional prayer. In doing

so, we are also unified with our larger family, the Catholic Church, whose members have uttered

the same or similar phrases for years upon years. Said thoughtfully, it resonates. Even on those

days when we zip to the finish, it makes a point— God is with us, and we thank him.
