A MESSAGE FROM OUR PASTOR Dear Holy Apostles Parish Family,

I will be leaving Monday, September 25, through

Thursday, October 5, for a pilgrimage to Italy.

We have 47 people from Holy Apostles going

on the trip. Please take good care of Fr. Lopez

while I am gone.

This past week we had some wonderful news I

would like to share. Gerri Henningfield, who

was a pillar at the Sunday 8 AM Mass, died this

past year. She and her husband, Leo, left us a

nice gift that they wanted to go toward helping

a child who is need go to school at Montini. We

will name a scholarship for one boy and one

girl per year in each of their names. We will be

able to give these scholarships for at least 11

years.

I share this with you because I hope it inspires

others to do likewise. In other places I have

been, we have had several scholarships given

per year in memory of people who have died.

It keeps their memory alive and allows 15 to

20 students to attend the grade school or high

school who would not be able to otherwise.

I am hoping Gerri and Leo Henningfield’s

generosity will inspire more to consider this in

their wills or memorials. We have had many

great people go on to the next life and many

strong family names throughout the last 100

years in McHenry, so this is a good way to keep

the tradition alive for the future.

Have a Blessed Week! Father Paul

PRAYER FOR OUR PARISH

ON ITS 28TH ANNIVERSARY

Heavenly Father,

You have chosen the parish as the

place by which You encounter us in our daily

lives.

Here Your Word is proclaimed, the Eucharist is

celebrated and Your people are united in a

family of believers.

We thank You for the abundant blessings You

have given to our parish, the Church of Holy

Apostles, and pray that we may continue to

serve You in faithfulness and love. Keep us

open to our need of Your love and fellowship.

Help us to work together to serve You and

each other for the good of the Church, for

the people of our Parish and for Your greater

glory. Amen

SECOND COLLECTION TODAY Archbishop Daniel Cardinal DiNardo, President of the U.S. Confer-

ence of Catholic Bishops, through our own Bishop David Malloy,

has asked that a special collection again be taken up for those

affected by Hurricane Irma in the Caribbean and the southeast-

ern U.S. “I ask once more for your generosity in assisting those

so badly afflicted by that historic storm. Once more, God in His

wisdom has placed before us an opportunity to sacrifice and be

joined with those in need.” Please give generously to those who

are suffering through catastrophic damage.

Your Gifts to SVdPS Help Your Neighbors After months of unemployment, a middle-aged resident

was thrilled to find a job doing

concrete work. Unfortunately, he

didn't own a pair of steel-toed boots

necessary to work in this field. The

St. Vincent de Paul Society member

met this gentleman at Walmart to

purchase the boots and new socks he needed for this po-

sition. Thanks to your generosity to SVdPS, this man is

working full-time and supporting himself once again. ”This

is my commandment, that you love one another as I have

loved you.” John 15:12

Can You Spare a Few Hours for P.A.D.S.? For anyone who wants to know more about PADS on site

at Holy Apostles, there will be an informational meeting at

7:00 PM on Tuesday, September 26, at Holy Apostles.

We will be starting the PADS program this season on

October 1. Our ministry helps about 8 to 12 women on

Sunday nights. We feed them and give them a place to

sleep here at Holy Apostles. We need help covering

Sunday night/Monday morning shifts: 7-11 PM, 11 PM-3

AM, 3-5 AM, and 5-7 AM. Each shift has it’s own responsi-

bilities—nothing difficult! If you cannot cover a shift, we

also need help with cooking and laundry. Any help you can

offer would be appreciated. Please contact Karen Varga

for more information [email protected] or 815-

451-2602.

Thanks for School Supplies Collected Dear Wonderful People of Holy Apostles:

Thank you so much for your donations of school supplies

to Parkland Middle School (McHenry). They have helped

our students in need SO much. We appreciate all that you

do for our students. Your generosity has made such an

impact regarding the success of our students! Sincerely,

Parkland School Social Workers

Do You Like to Sew? Rest in His Arms is hosting a sewing workshop where you

can learn to turn wedding dresses into “angel gowns.”

These angel gowns are given to grieving

families when a baby does not make it

home due to miscarriage, stillbirth or

infant death. They are sent to hospitals,

funeral homes and individual families.

You’ll be shown the process and be pro-

vided time to work on them. Unfinished

projects can be completed at home.

Wedding dresses, patterns and samples

will be provided—along with lunch. A workshop will be held

on Saturday, October 14, 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM in Apostles

Bay. Bring your sewing machine, scissors/rotary cutters,

pins and seam rippers. Please contact Nadineberczynski@

gmail.com to RSVP or details at RestinHisArms.org.

self, Jesus and men from our parish just like you

and me. The retreat is from

Parish Mission Led by Robert Feduccia “Life in God: A Spirituality for Every Day Life”

The theologian and songwriter, Bruce Springsteen, once

said, “Everybody has a hungry heart.” If we have been

deeply active in the Church our whole life or if we are

starting to want more out of life, the desire for more is a

constant human experience. Over the course of the

mission, on November 5, 6 and 7, we will understand our-

selves better and understand what a life in and with God

can really mean for people living in today’s world. Save

the dates!

HALO Needs Kitchen Towels for Crafts The women of Holy Apostles Ladies Organization (HALO)

are currently working on two projects for their Holiday

Craft and Bake Sale coming up on November 18/19 that

use two types of kitchen towels:

Linen or flour-sack type kitchen towels

Terry cloth kitchen towels

If you have any NEW, UNUSED decorative or any holiday

(not just Christmas) towels you would like to donate,

please drop them off at the Information Center in the

narthex in a bag marked “HALO.” Thank you!

Be Part of Holy Apostles Community Board Holy Apostles Community Board was created on Face-

book to work as a “digital bulletin board” that helps us to

connect with each other. Make

a community announcement, ask

for or provide assistance with a

chore, request or offer rides,

babysitting or other types of

care, buy, sell, or give away items, request a prayer—

these are just a few ways we can connect. There are cur-

rently 276 members—but we can use more! To join the

Community Board, just go to facebook.com/groups/

holyapostlescommunityboard, read and follow the rules

we’ve established and then request to become a member.

Once you’re approved as a member, you can begin using

this great tool. If you do not have a Facebook account or

do not have access to the internet, you can still use the

Community Board by calling in your “post” to Anne West or

Jennifer Marsh at 815-385-5673 and we will post it for you.

Be a Eucharistic Minister Serving as a Eucharistic Minister is a rewarding and

gratifying way of sharing your time and talent with

the parish. Distributing the Precious Body and

Blood of our Lord to fellow parishioners is humbling

and fulfilling. Please prayerfully consider joining

this ministry by attending one of the two following-

formation sessions:

Tuesday, October 10, 7 to 8:30 PM or

Monday, October 16, 7 to 8:30 PM

Both sessions will take place in church. These

formation sessions are for all who are interested in

becoming new Eucharistic Ministers. You are re-

quired to attend only ONE of the above sessions.

Please fill out a registration form online or contact

Kathy Gulvas at the Parish Office at 815-388-0513

or [email protected] to reserve your spot.

This month,

Montini Catholic

School is dedicat-

ing the month to

learning more

about the virtue of

Faith. Every class-

room has dedicat-

ed a space as a

classroom prayer

corner and

families were

challenged to do

the same at home.

Students are also

learning more

about who

Montini was and how he was a pope with a mission to

bring the faith to all continents in hopes of spreading a

No
