A MESSAGE FROM OUR PASTOR
Dear Holy Apostles Parish Family,
Happy Father’s Day to all of our fathers and
father-figures today. It is amazing how much
positive father-figures
can impact children
for the rest of their
lives. We have really
tried this year to
make programs like
Family Faith For-
mation and Vacation
Bible School at times
accessible to our
fathers. This has
been a big change,
but the people who
have participated have noted an impact on the
whole family. One person once instilled upon
me, ”When your dad is there, it means it’s im-
portant.” Our presence as father-figures is more
important than we might realize.
One of the key roles of a father is to keep his
family safe. So this weekend we are trying to get
all of our requirements for safety from volunteers
who deal with children. I know this is a struggle
for many, but the United States Bishops have
mandated this, so our Bishop has mandated
this to me. Please help us do what is required.
I know this is new for our liturgical ministries.
Our education ministries have done it for quite a
while. I have spent the last 20 years dealing
with these mandates for staff and educators. It
has made a difference and I work on our Priest
Health Committee to assist in some of these
matters. I am proud to say that we do deal with
these matters directly and we have been helpful
to many people over the years.
Have a Blessed Week!
Father Paul

Mobile Food Pantry Distribution Are you hungry? If you don’t have enough to eat, Northern
Illinois Food Bank’s Mobile Pantry can help. The Catholic
Order of Foresters are sponsoring a Mobile Food Truck
distribution of nutritious food to low-income neighbors in
need on Saturday, June 24, from 9 AM to 11 AM at St.
Mary’s Church, 1407 N. Richmond Rd. (Rt. 31), McHenry.
Food is distributed on a first-come, first-served basis,
while supplies last. Please bring your own bags or boxes.
Your Gifts Make a Difference Living on a fixed income, a 60-year-old gentleman has
managed to live independently by careful budgeting and
purchasing only the necessities.
However, even careful budgeting
couldn't help when the starter on his
20-year-old truck failed. With no-
where else to turn, he called the St.
Vincent de Paul Society for help.
Thanks to your donations to the Poor Boxes, Vincentians
purchased a new starter for his truck, which this gentle-
man installed with a friend. This gentleman was over-
whelmed with gratitude for the new starter, the bags of
food to stretch his budget and the prayerful support of the
visiting Vincentians. “This is my commandment, that you
love one another as I have loved you.” John 15:12

River Road, McHenry, on Thursday, July 13, at 11:30 AM.
Please RSVP to Barb at 815-385-7479 by July 10 if you
plan on attending. Bring a friend or make new ones!
Marian Welcomes New Superintendent Marian Central Catholic High School will be under new lead-
ership in the 2017-2018 school year. Father Max Striedl,
President of the Council of Administration for Marian Central,
announced that Steve Baldwin will begin duties as Superin-
tendent of Marian Central on July 1, 2017.
“We are excited to have Mr. Baldwin joining our school family.
He is an experienced educational professional that comes to
us from Guerin College Preparatory High School in River
Grove, Illinois. We look forward to his leadership and his
commitment to the mission of Marian Central.”
Baldwin commented: “I am very honored and excited to join
the Marian family. With such a storied history, the opportuni-
ties are endless to build upon the remarkable traditions of
the school. Marian Central has been a catholic educational
anchor and icon in McHenry County and the state of Illinois
for more than half a century, and I am very moved to be a
part of the future generations of Hurricanes joining the

Deadline to Nominate Today Every year, each parish is given the opportunity to honor
a faith-filled woman who gives outstanding volunteer
service to the parish and community. We all know
women who serve generously; perhaps the woman
who sits next to you at Mass or works alongside you in
one of the ministries here at Holy Apostles or in the
community at large. She is often the face you see
quietly working behind the scenes. This is your chance
to recognize her gifts and talents that she so humbly
shares. Nomination forms are available at the Infor-
mation Center and Parish Office. Nominations must be
returned to the Parish Office or HALO mailbox by
June 18. The McHenry Deanery Council of Catholic
Women will honor all the deanery nominees on Sunday,
September 17, at a banquet at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton
Parish Center, Crystal Lake. Ticket prices are $25/adult
and $12.50/child under 12. Past honorees: Alyce
Shay, Jan Phelan, Lavonne Sallaz, Mary Fardella, Pat
Gattone, Ginny Stubblefield, Margaret Mayer, Harriet
Van Kanegan, Harriet Snyder, Karen Staller, Eva Melesio,
Mary Ann Cahill, Barb Haffner and Barb Thomas.
Celebrating a Special Anniversary? Couples celebrating the milestone wedding anniver-
saries of 25, 50, 55, 60, and 65 or more years of mar-
riage in 2017 are invited to a special Silver & Gold
Wedding Anniversary Mass celebrated by Bishop Malloy
at St. Mary Parish in

Teens—Get Soaked on Water Day! Next Sunday, June 25, after the 10 AM Mass (about
11 AM), bring your squirt guns to the north field near
the Family Center and prepare for some fun! We

over it) and bring a towel.
Please Support SVdPS Tag Day “We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a
drop in the ocean, but the ocean would be less be-
cause of that drop.” —Mother Teresa
Saturday, July 1, is “Tag Day” for the St. Vincent de
Paul Society. Generous volunteers will give up some
of their holiday weekend to collect
donations in front of Ace Hardware,
Angelo’s Market, Jewel Food Store
and Riverside Bakery in McHenry
and in front of Angelo’s Market and
Walmart in Johnsburg.
If you are greeted by one of these volunteers on Sat-
urday, July 1, would you kindly consider making a do-
nation? In turn, you will be given a “tag” or card with
an explanation of what St. Vincent de Paul Society
does and a phone number to pass on to someone
you may know who is experiencing hardship. Attached
to the tag is a wrapped Lifesaver candy to remind you
that although you may think your donation is just a
drop in the ocean, it’s actually a “life saver” to many.
Tag Day is one of the ways the St. Vincent de Paul
Society raises funds to continue it’s ministry of help-
ing the needy in our own community. Have a safe and
Happy Fourth of July weekend!

He is Really There! “I Myself Am the Living Bread come
down from heaven.” John 6:51. Take
some time each week to visit Jesus in
the Divine Eucharist at the All Saints
Perpetual Adoration Chapel. Pray,
listen, and feel the peace that He gives us so loving-
ly. Break from your busy life to acknowledge His com-
forting love. Please pray about committing to being a
permanent adorer, either by yourself, with a prayer
partner or even a group to rotate weeks. Many sched-
uled adorers are members of another parish in the
McHenry Deanery—you do not have to be a member
of Holy Apostles to be a scheduled adorer. Please
contact Mike Thielsen at 815-385-8562 or mthielsen
@live.com to commit to an adoration time.
Offer Your Intentions with Candles Four candles surround the Blessed Sacrament in the
All Saints Perpetual Adoration Chapel, each burning
for 14 days. Request your own personal intentions
for their duration by contacting the Parish Office at
815-385-5673. The suggested donation is $15 per
candle. From June 18 through July 1, with these
candles, your prayers have been requested by Sheila
Noland, Kaminski Family, and Maria Guzman.

A Prayer for All Fathers
“God our Father, We give you thanks and praise for fathers young
and old.
We pray for young fathers, newly embracing their vocation; May
they find courage and perseverance to balance work, family and
faith in joy and sacrifice.
We pray for our own Fathers around the world whose children are
lost or suffering; May they know that the God of compassion walks
with them in their sorrow.
We pray for men who are not fathers but still mentor and guide us
with fatherly love and advice.
We remember fathers, grandfather, and great grandfathers who are
no longer with us but who live forever in our memory and nourish us
with their love. Amen”
We
Father Rubén!
It was a fun but bittersweet
gratitude and going-away party we
had for Fr. Rubén! We were
blessed to have him with us for
five years and again that he was
able to come back and let us
thank him and love him. The parish
presented him with the gift of a
chalice, which he is holding in the
photo to the right. Thank you to
everyone who donated food and
towards gifts for Fr. Rubén. May
God bless you, Fr. Rubén! You will
always be part of Holy Apostles.
Come Join Us for a Picnic! This week, at the end of Family Bible Camp,
we will celebrate a Family
Mass at 5:40 PM and then
go outside to enjoy a picnic
together! We’ll supply the
hot dogs, burgers and
buns—you bring a dish to
share. Please join us for a
fun evening and meal together! All parish
members are invited, even if you aren’t able
to be part of Bible Camp. See you there!
Someone Needs Blood Somewhere Please commit to giving the gift of life—a

ment by calling John at 815-347-

pre.
Ahora cuidamos mu-
cho ingerir solamente alimentos sanos, conforme a
templemos a Jesús sacramentado.

Oracion en el Dia del Padre Señor Dios, Padre bueno,
creador del género humano,
Tú enviaste a tu Hijo Jesús,
y a San José como padre;
siglos. Amen
