The Broome-Tioga Race Report Maryott, Christofferson Top Podiums at Broome-Tioga Round 3: 2014 Western New York Off-Road Association (WYNOA) Hare Scramble Series When the flag dropped for the start of the Quad AA division, Bradley Aman led the pack out of the switch-back first turn and was followed by Matt Holbrook, Justin Hoffmier, Steven Covert and Jason Sanford. Marty Christoferson worked his way through the pack and had taken over the lead by the start of lap two. Eric Wilczek, Sanford, Aman and Steven Stracka rounded out the top five. Hurd Motorsports, promoters of the Broome-Tioga Sports Center, hosted round 3 of the Western New York Off-Road Association’s (WNYOA) Hare Scramble Series on Sunday, May 25, in Binghamton, New York. Mother Nature cooper- ated by bringing sunshine and blue skies and warm tempera- tures that made dust a problem, especially on the starts of the quad divisions. Rider turnout was spectacular and set a new record for the series! The pit area was filled to capacity and even extended to the national hill area, making it look like a motocross na- tional was underway. Track conditions started out good due to the excellent work of the dedicated Broome-Tioga track crew. They began watering the racecourse early in the day but the warm temperatures and strong breeze quickly dried out the track surface and dust became a factor, especially for the starts of the quad divisions. The WNYOA race series uses a transponder system for scor- ing. Mechanics and spectators can monitor their riders lap times and position in real time on a large screen monitor near the scoring/transponder area. When the green flag flew signaling the start of the AA bike class, Benjamin Bouwens led the pack out of the first turn and was followed by Nathan Page, Marcus Scutt-Cornell, Scottie Rich and Kirk Deridder. After the leaders came through the scoring/transponder sec- tion and started lap two, Grant Maryott had taken over the lead and was followed by Bouwens, Scottie Rich, Dallas Mica and Deridder. By the start of the third lap, the top five were all spread out. Maryott remained in lead for the rest of the scramble and took the checkered flag with a 48 second lead. Bouwens, Rich, Mi- cha and Deridder completed the top five. Benjamin Bouwens (23), Nathan Page (21) and Marcus Scutt-Cornell (5) lead the start of the AA bike scramble. Christoferson remained out front for the next two laps and took the checkers for the win with a margin of victory of 34-seconds. Wilczek, Sanford, Aman and Stracka closed out the top five.
