THE BRAIN is the part that controls and regulates all the information that goes all around the body in the CNS.
THE FUNCTIONS OF THE BRAIN
• To process information from sensory neurons• To work out responses and commands for effector organs• To regulate functions of every part of the nervous system• To control higher nerve functions like memory, reasoning, intelligence, conscience
and will.
THE PARTS OF THE BRAIN
• - The brain stem• This is where the brain connects with the spinal cord. The nerves from the brain
crossover in the brain stem so that the left side of the brain controls the right side of the body and vice versa. The brain stem control vital functions like the heartbeat, blood pressure, breathing and motor control.
• The hypothalamus• This is the area of the brain between the brainstem and the cerebrum. It
helps control sleep patterns, body temperature, thirst, hunger, visual and auditory reflexes, communication between the cerebellum and other parts of the brain, and the selection of stimuli which are send to the brain.
• The cerebellum• The cerebellum is located in the back of the brain. It has grey matter on the
outside and white matter on the inside. It is responsible for processing information from the ear related to balance. It coordinates motor impulses from the brain so that movements are precise.
• The cerebrumThe cerebrum is the largest part of the brain and the most important. Part of the cerebrum is the cerebral cortex.
