In a city as teeming with creativity as Hoboken, you can pack a lot of art into one square mile, and a walking tour along its tree-lined autumnalstreets is the best way to see it. That was the ideabehind the founding of the Hoboken Artist Studio

Tour, and it’s time again for the annual weekendlong event, as the tour begins its fourth decade. Atits inception, the tour featured only 15 artists. Thirtyyears later, it boasts ten times that many, and is abigger than ever celebration of the city’s creativeenergies.

The 30th annual Hoboken Artist Studio Tour runs onSaturday and Sunday, Nov. 6 and 7 from noon to 6

p.m. and is sponsored by Mayor Dawn Zimmer, theCity of Hoboken, the Hoboken Reporter and TheHudson County Division of Cultural & Heritage Affairs. So grab a map and view scores of exhibits and visitstudios where all kinds of art is created. Many of theartworks will be for sale, so don’t forget your check-book.

Creativity will be on display in a multitude of formsand venues. Many of Hoboken’s outdoor cafes andmulti-cultural restaurants will display art and will offerbrunch, lunch, and dinner specials throughout theday. Some establishments will even offer live per-formances.

A walking tourEven though there are more than 41 stops on the

tour, it’s designed so you can walk from one studio orgroup exhibition to the next. Or, if you prefer, you cantake the free shuttle bus, which will be stopping at 7or 8 locations around the mile-square city, includingCity Hall, the PATH station, the Neumann LeatherBuilding, 38 Jackson Street (The Pudding Factory),Hoboken Historical Museum, 720 Monroe Street ArtsCenter and more.

You’ll find a map of the attractions inside thissupplement and they’ll also be available at City Hall,94 Washington St., between 11:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. onthe days of the tour.

As diverse as the art itself, the tour’s popularitydraws artists from far beyond Hoboken. From theshores of foreign lands to our own metropolitan area, you will find over 150 artists and their work, represent-ing an exciting variety of media and design. Visitorswill have a chance to meet the artists, photogra-phers, sculptors and artisans in their own studios, where they can witness the creative process at work.

A diversity of stylesThe media will range from classical figurative real-

ism and abstract expressionism to sculptures andphotographic computer generated images, oilpaintings, watercolors and acrylics, multi media col-

lage and paintings on silk. Some of the featured artthis year includes Tim Daly’s realist paintings anddrawings, Adam Saynuk’s macro photography andhis interactive “Mood Book,” Frank Hanavan’s acryliclandscapes of Hoboken, photographic montage byRoslyn Rose, Kenneth Mueller’s balance stone sculp-tures, photography by Virginia Rolston Parrott, DougAuld’s large realistic paintings, furniture restorationsby Chapeau Design, a group exhibition by thePaterson Arts Council, “Wishing Tree Installation” bystudents from the Elysian Charter School, and muchmore.

Major venues Friday night a preview party will be held at 918

Willow Ave. from 6 – 8 p.m. and on Saturday you’llfind live music and a reception there all day long, plus a variety of paintings and drawings.

Art will be on display in 41 locations, large andsmall. At City Hall, 94 Washington St. (open both daysand barrier-free) the works will range from paintingsin oils and acrylics to mixed media pieces andassemblages, watercolors, landscapes and portraits, realism, impression and surrealism.

At the Lib Art Gallery, 1317 Willow Ave. (open bothdays) the exhibits will include reclaimed functionalart, ceramics, photography, and mixed media.

Some of the biggest exhibits will be available at thecity’s largest and best-known artist studio addresses:the Monroe Arts center, 720 Monroe St., where inaddition to artworks, poetry and music and discus-sions will be available; the Friary, 619 Jefferson St.,where spoken word, music and films will be offered;and the Neumann Leather building at 300 ObserverHwy.

The Hoboken Artists Studio Tour is made possible inpart by funds from the New Jersey State Council onthe Arts/Department of State, a Partner Agency ofthe National Endowment for the the Arts, adminis-tered by the Hudson County Office of Cultural &Heritage Affairs/Tourism Development and by theCounty of Hudson, Thomas A. Hoboken is a dynamic and vibrant community today due in part to the many artists who live and work here. Their commitment to nurturing the cultural canvas that makes Hoboken so special is very much appreciated. The Artists’ Studio Tour is an opportunity to thank them and admire their creativity and sense of self-expression.

The Artists’ Studio Tour has become one of Hoboken’s premier cultural events, showcasing the talents of local artists. This year we are celebrating the 30th Anniversary of this event and I am proud to acknowl-edge the accomplishments of all the artists participating.

Today is also the perfect opportunity to explore Hoboken’s many quaint shops, restaurants, its rich historic architecture and beautiful waterfront parks as you walk from studio to studio.

This is a special day for Hoboken, and I hope you will take advantage of everything our community has to offer.
