Dear Big Creek Families,

Welcome to the 2016 - 2017 school year! I would like to welcome back all of our returning families. For those families that are new to Big Creek, we are so glad you are here. We have only been in school for seven days, but they have been wonderful. Students are in their routine and engaged in learning activities.

Thanks to SPLOST, we have a new media center to share with our wildcats! The renovation looks amazing with fresh paint and new carpet. We will work this year to fundraise to add new furniture in the media center and more technology throughout the building. Our custodial team has also worked tirelessly this summer to ensure we are squeaky clean prior to the start of the year!

Our staff has been working hard this summer too! We had both existing and new staff participating in numerous

professional development opportunities this summer. We are so appreciative of their devotion to continually

improving their practice to provide the best learning experiences for our students.

Forsyth County will participate in district accreditation this school year. AdvancED is the accrediting agency that

will conduct the evaluation. You will be receiving information in the coming weeks with directions to participate in

a survey for the county. Additionally, the district has enhanced its Learner Profile which highlights the

expectations for our students here in Forsyth. This can be found at http://www.forsyth.k12.ga.us/1617lp.

Big Creek has achieved many successes and accomplishments over the years. Through a collegial partnership with

everyone associated with Big Creek, I am confident that our students can continue to learn and grow. I strongly

believe that parent, community, and business relationships are essential in building a flourishing school

environment.

As we look to the future school year, I want to encourage everyone to be involved in our school, involved in your child’s learning, and become a member of PTA. There are also many volunteer opportunities through PTA. With your support, BCE will continue to grow and achieve our goals.

Big Creek Elementary is a remarkable place to be each and every day. I take great pride in being a BCE Wildcat!

Sincerely,

Laura Webb

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

1. Get a Parent Portal account. If you do not have one or have forgotten your login information, please come into the school

for assistance. You MUST have an id to be issued a number.

2. Please verify in Parent Portal that you have checked the correct boxes to receive messages from the school for your

student. This information can be found under contact preferences.

3. Put $ into your child’s lunch account at www.mypaymentsplus.com. 4. Get familiar with ItsLearning.

5. “Dropping off of Forgotten Items” – please remember we have a designated area to drop off lunchboxes and other items

that may have been forgotten. We will email back to the teachers ONCE per day at 10:25. If the item is dropped off after

this time – it will be up to the child to know the item is there. We are working very hard to help our Wildcats learn

responsibility. We are asking parents to help support this at home.

6. Please remind your children to be sure and gather up all their belongings at the end of each day. Soon teachers will have

meetings or will not be available to unlock classroom doors after school is dismissed.

Ice cream is back… Students may begin purchasing treats from their lunch accounts. Ice cream will only

be sold during the lunch period. The choices are Vanilla Ice Cream Sandwich, Polar Pole Rainbow Bar,

Chocolate Shortcake Bar, Fudge Frenzy Bar, or Strawberry Bar. All ice cream is $1.

If you would like to purchase Ice cream for the entire class for your child’s “birthday”, please send in cash

or check, $1 per student. Please check with your homeroom teacher for class totals. Checks should be

made out to Big Creek Elementary. We ask for 3 days’ notice for birthday ice cream. Thank you!
