Scholarship Process

Definitions•Merit Assistance is primarily based on a “talent” -

academic, leadership, art, music, athletic, etc.

•Non-merit (Samford Aid)- scholarships are based on specific qualifications not related to Merit qualifications.

•Need Assistance (Financial Aid) is primarily based on the financial ability of the family to pay.

Merit Scholarship Criteria•Curriculum & Coursework (H, AP, IB)

•Grade Point Average (CORE, Overall)

•Standardized Examinations (ACT, SAT I)

•Resume of Leadership Activities -(In addition to admission application)

•Recommendations & Interviews

Merit ScholarshipsPresidential Scholarship: Interview based scholarship.

Application required. Application can be found in the applicants “Status Page.”

Average ACT- 30, Average GPA-4.0

Amount- $18,500

(Mutually exclusive except for Legacy and National Merit.)

Leadership: Demonstrated Leadership reflected on resume and scholarship application. Application Required

ACT and /or SAT-ICORE high school GPA – recalculated usingEnglish, math, history, science and foreign language

Start at a 26 ACT and a 3.5 GPAAmount- up to $15,000(Can be combined with other scholarships except mutually

exclusive scholarships)

Academic CriteriaWeights on “CORE GPA”:

Honors = 0.25

Advanced Placement (AP) = 1.00 International Baccalaureate (IB) = 1.00

Grades on a 10 Point Scale: A = 90 - 100

B = 80 - 89C = 70 - 79
