The Stagecoach Journey began in 1999 founded on a deep passion for the

Old West. The Hamby family purchased the authentic 1858 Butterfield Stage-

coach and began a year long restoration process on it. The Journey Stage-

coach has a unique and significant past with its roots going back to 1858

when it was owned by The Butterfield Overland Company and was on the line

in southern Arizona. Upon the Butterfield Overland Company going out of

business in 1861, the Journey Stagecoach stayed in operation in Tucson, Ari-

zona up until the turn of the century. In 1960, the stagecoach was brought out

of retirement when purchased by the Herschend Family of Silver Dollar City,

Branson and it became the coach for the Silver Dollar Stage Line. During its

tenure at Silver Dollar City, it worked with such great acts as the Sons of the

Pioneers, the Oak Ridge Boys, and others. Needing restoration it was again

retired until 1999 when the Hamby’s purchased it. Wanting to put the stage-

coach back into operation and with a noble cause, the Hamby family decided

to make the first Butterfield Overland stage run since 1861, departing from

Springfield, Missouri in March of 2001 and arriving in Tombstone, Arizona

63 days and 1400 miles later. As in the days of John Butterfield, one of our

purposes was to deliver the mail as well. Delivering penpal letters from kids

in the Midwest to kids around the country has become a passion and mission

of the Journey Stagecoach and its crew. The Journey Stagecoach, pulled by its

four magnificent bays, has now taken seven long distance trips and delivered

thousands of penpal letters.

Rick and Bev Hamby, known as Cowboy Rick and Arkansas Bev, host the

Missouri Broadcasters Association award winning program "Just For Kids

Radio Roundup". It is broadcast live from 9-10am Saturdays on 102.5 FM

or www.kkdy.com. The interactive one hour program takes its listeners on a

fun and exciting westward adventure through legend quest, map quest, trivia,

and story time.

Throughout the year, you can find Rick and Bev Hamby and the Journey

Stagecoach presenting their elementary school program, "Plymouth Rock to

the California Coast", or presenting a PowerPoint program on their many

stagecoach adventures.

You can contact Rick and Bev Hamby for your program or organization

through www.kkdy.com.
